This is an update of a previous post by Sharon Rickson.

It can be tough to remember the title and author of a book you read a long time ago—even if it was a book that was really important to you. Fiction is cataloged by author and title, not by subject or plot line, which makes identifying books by just their storyline difficult.

Readers often ask librarians for help finding these kinds of books. And we can’t figure out the mystery every single time, but we do have a few tricks to help find the answer.

First, pin down everything you can remember about the book, plot, character names, time period in which the book may have been published, genre, etc. All these details are clues in identifying the title and author of the book.

Online resources can help with your search for a half-remembered book, even if all you have is a basic plot line. Searching yourself is a good place to start; then, you can post to a listserv or discussion forum, where someone might recognize it. Or, last but not least, leave a comment on this post!

Before You Start

Try Google! Type in everything you can remember about the book — as in, “picture book rabbi animals advice yiddish” — and scroll through the results. (That’s a real-life example of a book a patron was asking for: It Could Always Be Worse by Margot Zemach.)

You can also try googling one key detail you remember from a book. One of our librarians solved a book mystery by searching “USS You-Know-Who” — the name of a boat in the story that the patron happened to remember. (Another real-life example: She Flew No Flags by Joan Manley.)

Crowdsourcing

A Goodreads group with searchable discussion posts and thousands of questions and answers.

  • Name That Book

  • Reddit’s whatsthatbook thread
A nearly endless thread of users trying to help other users remember book titles, including several frequently requested books. Especially good for science fiction and fantasy.

  • "Stump the Bookseller" blog

More Suggestions

  • If you can remember just one word, use the search function on Goodreads or Library Thing to find long lists of titles with a particular word.

  • Goodreads’ browse-able lists of titles that readers have shelved in unique categories, such as authors’ professions or decades of publication, is also be helpful.

  • For recently published books, the reviews in Booklist Online are broken down by detailed genre.

How to Move On

Sometimes, it's just not going to happen, and you can't find that elusive book you've been searching for. It's okay! Great news: The world is full of great books! Here are a few ways to find more...

Feel free to leave a comment and tell us about a book you’re trying to remember! Our library staff members will pop in and check it periodically, and readers of this post are welcome to make guesses and suggestions.

Horror paperback novel from the late 70's- early 80's

I've been trying to recall the name of this paperback from the 70's-80's. It's about two boys, teens, young teens. One is good, the other evil. The evil one kills people, and of course the good one tries to stop him. On the cover is a picture of a teenage boy on a bike and it's night time.

Help Me Find This YA book

I'm looking for a book where the protagonist is invited for a summer vacation by his girlfriend someplace with a beach. The girlfriend has a gay cousin who was recently heartbroken or something and the protagonist falls for this cousin.

I've been looking for this for years

The storyline is so horrific, I'm almost mortified to outline it, but it's like having a flea in my ear -- I won't rest until I finally find that book. The story is set sometime during England's witch trials. I think the main character's name is Hazel, but because all my searches have failed to dig up anything, I could be wrong. Hazel's an adolescent girl who flees the home when a mob drags her pregnant mother to be burned at the stake -- her fate would be the same, since she has a 'witch mark'. I don't recall how she got pregnant, but she's befriended by an old woman who has plans for her baby once its born. She finds out & gets away. At some point, she meets a thjef (he may have been the one to help her get away, but I've no idea), and the story ends when the thief?, on his way to the gallows?, sees Hazel?, also condemned to death, and breaks her neck before she has to bear the agony of her execution (I'm guessing it's being burned at the stake). I read this during the early to mid 80s.

this is just a guess and its 2020 so I'm late but

maybe you are talking about the crucible... idk i have not read that book in a while so i am probably way off

Hazel

I am just grateful that you DID respond! Thank you. I do not know if "Crucible" is the name of the book, but I have also been looking for it for a while.

Okay so first of all, I have

Okay so first of all, I have been looking for this book for years. I read it on iBooks at least 6 years ago. The device I read it on no longer works as well as I have a new iTunes account as someone locked the other account. Plugging the device into ITunes does NOT work as the device is locked as I forgot the password after years of not using it. Now the book is about a girl/woman whose sister went missing, she and her sister have a power that when used creates a scene in someone’s mind so real it can kill someone even though it’s not actually happening. The older sister (I think) goes to seek help from a man who she thinks can help. He’s a paranormal something in his own right, I’m getting the image of an immortal warrior? They have crazy chemistry and work together. This is all I have and I need help desperately because I want to read this book again but I can’t remember any specific details about it!!

Book my mom is looking for

My mom and sister have been trying to remember a book for s few years now. I think it has the word blue in the title and it was in France, with time period when catholics had to hide. It was a novel. That is sooooooo they can really remember... But any idea would be appreciated!

Could it be The Glass Castle?

This may be "The Glass Castle

This may be "The Glass Castle" by Jeanette Walls. It was published in 2006. It is a memoir, not a novel, but reads as narrative non-fiction. The book opens with Walls spotting her father living homeless on a street in New York City (I think her mother may have been there too, but the memoir is mostly about the relationship between Walls and her father). She had not been in contact with him for many years.

Trying to find a book

This may have been in a a collection of short stories rather than a novel but it's about a teenage English boy after WWII when he visits his older sister who is now working in Germany. The start of the book details a night in an air raid shelter during the war when a childhood friend is killed by bombing when she runs out of the shelter to greet her father.

A book I read in third grade

I remember reading a book in elementary school about a little girl who had a bunch of deceased relatives, and in the book her aunt/ uncle dies. I think it might have lilac or lavender in the title or it might be something talked about in the book. I can’t really remember that much.

The Series of Unfortunate Events

3 children’s parents die in a house fire and they move into their aunts and she dies. then they move into their uncles and he dies and they end up with their other uncle. the childrens names are violet, clause, and sonny

Love story

Please help me find this book. A young couple are living together after she finds out she's pregnant. The girl realizes she doesnt want to live with him anymore and leaves him a note. He's at work when he gets the note thinks it's a love kote and saves it. She leaves and he reads the note too late. He tries to catch her once realizing the note was a breakup but is too late. What's the name of this book?!

An amazing book with short stories

So, there were a couple of short stories in there, one of them was callled "Prozac" and it was about a guy that took prozac and he had a crush on a girl at a supermarket and he ended up freaking out in one of the aisles (that's all I can remember of that one). Another short story in there was about a kid that was shooting up a school and the teacher gets shot and finally someone gets up and stops him. Another short story on there was about a guy who was trying to get over a suicide of his best friend that was a girl. Please help me find this book, this book really meant a lot to me but a friend lent it to me and took it back. If it helps, the cover was red and the name was only on the spine (at least for the one I read) Thanks!!

i can't find this book!!

There's a book I read quite a while ago. It has a black and yellow front cover but I've unfortunately forgotten its name. It was about a boy who lives with his family in America and moved there from England because of what happened to his brother a long time ago when they were both kids. The boy regrets everything he's done in his life like seriously damaging his brother's health which can't be restored and blames it all on himself causing him to commit suicide by drowning and then wakes up in a new dimension which he thinks is the afterlife. Then meets two other people while trying to hide from a van he thinks is suspicious. I can't quite remember the girls name but the other boy's name was Tomaz/Tomasz and all the three kids rely on each other to survive in this "afterlife". Tomasz/Tomaz's family fled away from Poland because of I think war?? And the girl had an abusive father which one day pushed her down the stairs and she died. Also there's this jail kind of thing where everyone gets put into. It's for the people who've agreed to forget about their past life and move on to a new fake one where everyone takes this drug thing and are no longer in the present real world. They're just unconcious. The boy finds out that his brother never actually survived but died and the disability was just a cover from their parents when in fact they knew he was no longer with them. He also finds coffin like boxes which contain everyone and is determined to try the drug simulation for himself to truly figure out whats going on and how to stop it. So yeah if you know which book I'm talking about I would absolutely over the moon to find out what it's called!

I read this book a long time

I read this book a long time ago, back in elementary school, forgot the name but remember some details. Really want to find it. It's about this girl who considers herself very boring and plain, her room has a bunch of calendars for decor. Later on she paints her room purple and becomes very outgoing. Her family gets her a bunch of art supplies for her birthday. I don't really remember the rest. If anyone knows this book, plmk! Been searching for a while. Thanks in advance.

The Amazing Days of Abby Hayes: The More, the Merrier

I know it’s been a few years but in case you never found it I read this one as a kid too! It’s The Amazing Days of Abby Hayes: The More, the Merrier by Anne Mazer.

Been trying to find for years, need a miracle

I'm looking for a book that I think i read when I was a child/preteen. I don't remember the whole story since it has been so long. I believe it starts out with a family. There's three daughters, one son, a mother and father. The father used to work in the palace until he had an accident while training dragons and lost a limb. (I think it was a leg??) The father is a very noble man and he would speak out against someone in the palace who was trying to take the throne. There is this mountain that is near where they live but they cannot go there or speak of it. There is apparently a special breed of dragons there and no one goes up there. But the family gets attacked and two of the girls escape to the mountain and the other girl and her mom is thrown into a work camp. The son and the father and sent to the palace to work in the army. The father is forced to go back to his old job and the son is part of the trainees. The two girls escape to the mountains and find an egg (Or maybe a baby dragon, I can't remember) and they take care of it. When the dragon is a little older, the two girls find help from a wizard on how to train it (maybe?) and the wizard lives in a tower (? Again, not sure). Eventually the wizard helps then with the dragon and accompanies the two girls to help set free their mom and sister along with other girls from the work camp. Even just an author or a guess would be much appreciated!

Teenagers travel to an alternate dimension

This one will probably be kinda hard to figure out since I don’t remember too much but it’s really driving me crazy! I read this book a while ago with my grandmother I was pretty young at the time. I think the front cover of the book was really magical looking. I think in the book a girl and a group of her friends travel to a magical fantasy world on accident and they have these magic rocks or coins that have magical powers. One of the girls ends up turning into a mermaid. I think the magic coins is what caused them to go into the magic dimension. I also think that the coins were meant for the specific girl and the girls are trying to figure out what each of the coins mean. I really hope you can figure this out!

okay, i don't have the title

okay, i don't have the title unfortunately, but i actually came to this page because i'm looking for the same book and it's been driving me insane! so if you ever found out the name or remembered any more info about it, PLEASE let me know :)

Girl with stones book

I am trying to find the same book, I think. The girl was drawn to a stone in a mall, and it was given to her by an old woman. This caused her to be entangled in another world. A giant king gave the girl his stone as he died, and the girl was able to hold more than one stone, which no one else could do. The mermaid people were served by the humans -the lowest caste- who were dying and the girl could heal their sickness.

Wellspring of Magic!

Hey there! I’m 98% sure that the book you’re looking for is Wellspring of Magic by Jan Fields. I recognized the plot as soon as you mentioned it, but it definitely took a little while to track it down on the internet. There’s also a second book in case you’re interested! Happy reading!

Looking for 2 old book I read early 90's - 2000's

They were novels I found in the $1.00 bin at the grocery store I worked at in Canada. They were supernatural type. 1) Was a novel about a girl with supernatural powers. She seduces her professor, he refused to leave his wife. 2) Was a novel about a young girl who fled her family home, her father wanted her to take her mother's place (he blamed her for the death of his wife while she gave birth to her), She moved to a haunted apartment building, there was a detective who had a past where he and a friend conjured a demon. So if anyone can help find these novels I would be ecstatically happy. :)

Book I needddd

It was about a man who fought in Afghanistan and became blind he also lost a limb. When he comes back he starts seeing a therapist or a physio I can't remember and they slowly start to fall in love. As the story goes on though you find out he's not blind and that his PTSD was so bad his mind had convinced himself he couldn't see

I'm trying to find this book

I'm trying to find this book but sadly, I don't remember the title or author. It's about a teenage girl who lives in a town where everyone knows everyone. Her dad is a forest ranger but I'm pretty sure her mom passed away. All is swell until two newcomers, a guy and his sister, arrive. Surprise surprise, they can shape shift into black panthers, and the teenage girl and the new guy, (Nicolas?) pretty much fall in love. I pretty much remember the entire plot but I can't for the life of me remember the title or author, so if anyone knows this book then feel free to reply. Thanks! The genres are romance, mystery, fiction, action and adventure.

Pretty sure it's what you described

You accurately described the Elementals series by b Michelle Madow. It's a 5 book series, easy to find at either ebook sites or brick and mortar; I've read the full series at least a half dozen times and still enjoy the heck out of it every time. Hope you're able to get yourself copies real soon.

Horror novel about a stone that comes to life after dark

I read a really creepy horror novel as a teen, which I would love to re-read, but I can't think of the name of it for the life of me. I have tried several different search terms to try and locate it, but I am coming up with nothing. I thought maybe someone here may have read it and will know the name of it... The novel has to be at least 25 years old. I loosely remember the plot. It went something like this: A woman traveled to another country, I think it might have been Ireland. She brought back some type of stone. Not sure if she stole it, or took it as a souvenir. It was supposed to protect her and bring her wealth, or something of that nature. But the stone would come to life at night and turn into this horrid creature that would kill people in her life. I think she even threw it away, or drove it out into the countryside and tossed it, but it came back. I remember by the end of the novel she was pretty terrified of the dark, had generators with back up generators and had to keep the entire house lit so the thing wouldn't get back in. I think by the end of reading it, I was pretty terrified of the dark too! Does this novel sound familiar to anyone? I'd really love to re-read it.

I read this book last year

I read this book last year about a girl in a village that couldn't talk and there was a war I think her village captured a soldier like a giant and she was made to clean his wounds and take care of him daily and the giant refused to speak to anyone but her

Trying to Find a Book Title/Author

I wonder if anyone could help me track down a book that I don’t know the title or author of? It’s a children’s story that my father often read to me when I was little (so 30 years ago at least but the book may have been older) similar in style to C.S. Lewis’s Narnia books or Tolkien’s The Hobbit and of about the same length. The main character was called Wee One the Gnome. I never actually read the book myself, so I’m afraid I don’t know exactly how “Wee One” was spelled. He lived in a magical forest in a small house and had a series of misadventures with other fantastical creatures. The chapter I remember most vividly involved him getting a group of cat people to help renovate and/or paint his house with the promise of feeding them pies, but then failing to deliver the promised pies. The cat people responded by menacingly surrounding his house chanting “Pies to eat, pies to eat” until he finally made good on his promise. I know this isn’t much to go on. I know that it was at least published in English, if not originally written in it, because English was the only language my father read. I'm hoping to find it so I can get a copy for my newborn nephew. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Young Adult book

I read a book long ago, am trying to find out the name. It's about a girl who tries out a friend's motorcycle, crashes it & hits her head. She wakes to find herself back in time, is a very old lady who others think she is a witch. Might have the word Nightmare in the title.

Motorcycles and a contract with the devil

I read this book a very long time ago, and can barely remember it, but here's what I do remember: - The deuteragonist was a young woman who had suffered a motorcycle accident and died, but her soul was still bound - The protagonist had to rescue the deuteragonist from this fate by finding and destroying her contract held by death or the devil - In the beginning, you don't know that the deuteragonist is dead, it's a huge reveal That's all I can remember, but I remember the book being insanely good. I was shoved off a balcony when I was a kid, while not yet finished with the book, and my stuff- including the book- was stolen, and the concussion made some things blurry. If anyone could help me find this book again that would be lovely, as I never got the chance to finish it.

TRYING TO FIND A BOOK

I haven't read this book in like ten years but from what I can remember it is centered around a little girl who has a good family life until she walks in on her mother in her mothers art studio topless with another man who isn't her father. Then her mom dies then she falls in love with a little boy who loves her back but her childhood enemy I think her name was missy or sissy or something similar gets angry that the little boy chose the main character over her so she tells the secret that him and his family cant join the yacht club because of their religion and the boy runs away and gets in a sail boat and dies then years down the line our character meets an older guy while she is like 16-18 and the guy has red hair and they get married have kids then at the end of the book after her husband has died of old age she dies and she smells her first loves scent.

I must find it..

I'm looking for a book I read in 2013 the plot was probably set anywhere between the 10th to the 15th century, two sisters in a convent are called by their brother to his castle, the prettiest of the sisters is to marry his magic user (possibly a warlock who might have a cursed hand that he cannot use) however the elder sister offers herself and marries the magic user, the younger sister falls in love with one of the guards and the brother forces himself upon her in the end the elder sister is arrested as a witch by her brother and her husband saves her.

Looking for this kids book I believe from 1980s/90s

I believed it was a poor woman with this wizard or something that came to her and would grant her a few wishes and she wished for too much (she wished to be queen and wished for stars & moon - everything if I remember right) to the point she got so greedy she was forced by wizard to go back to her poor lifestyle. It had to be in 1980s or early 1990s.

Fairy tale

It sounds like the fairy tale The Golden Fish/The Fisherman and the Fish/The Fisherman and His Wife. Being a fairy tale, there are many, many similar versions of the same story. The fisherman catches a (golden) fish, who promises him three wishes if he lets the fish go. As you describe, the wife wishes for more and more, until the fish says she has been too greedy and takes it all back,

Please Help Me Find This Book!

Hi, I heard this as an audiobook when I was a preteen I think. I don't remember the title, author, or any of the names of the characters. All I remember was the main character was a boy, he had "gem eyes" and the villain in this story wanted to steal because the eyes have magical powers. The boy's power is time travel. The villain has been stealing eyes for a long time and the boy is the last of his kind. I remember that the villain had backward knees. There was also a middle-aged man who was trying to save the boy, he also wanted to go back in time or go forwards in time for the specific reason that I cannot recall. Please if you know the title of this book please let me know!

I don't know the name of the book...but it does seem similar to "Always a Witch" and "Once a Witch" duology. Maybe that can help, if not I think you will enjoy them

I am also looking for this

I am also looking for this book lol. I remember every time he time travelled his hair would get lighter- like i think the strands were turning clear? And the antagonist had "spoon-shaped" nails that he used to pluck the eyes out of all the kids with green eyes. He also had the ability to scry when he oiled his nails and could look for the kids with "gem eyes" I think. He could also jump really high with his backwards knees. I'm like 90% sure there were also dragons and that the ending of the book took place in like a dragon den where the protagonist and antagonist fought.

Could book 2 be "The Face on the Milk Carton"?

Could it be "The Face on the Milk Carton" by Caroline B. Cooney? In the story, the girl's hand was not smashed (maybe mixing up with another story?), but Janie Johnson sees a missing person photo on a milk carton and realizes it's herself. Finally finds out her adoptive parents thought she was their grandkid, as the daughter of their missing daughter, Hannah, and Janie is reunited with her birth family. Eventually her kidnapper and adoptive parents' daughter, Hannah, is found...

It keeps me up at night

When I was in Elementary school I read this book, and for the life of me I can't remember the name, or most of the book. What I do remember though is that I believe a girl has gone off to live at this place, and the house she is in is alive. At one point in the book this man comes to the house, and the girl hides in the shadows with the curtains, and she tells herself over and over again something along the lines of how "she is nothing, shes just a shadow," and the man never sees her. I believe that there was also another boy with her, and an older character that took care of them.

I'm not sure

I probably don't know what book you're talking about, but it reminds me of the first like 30 pages of City of Ember book 3.

Trying to remember book

I'm trying to remember a book I read probably 15 years ago. I believe the woman was either engaged or married to a banker or stock market guy, and her father was some sort of secret agent. The bad guys were after her because of her father. I think her fiancé or husband either ended up being one of the crime lords, or they were trying to point guilt at him. I just remember when it was revealed who the main bad guy was, it was a big surprise and not who you were expecting it to be. It would have been Christian fiction, I'm sure.

Daddy

I’m looking for a book called Daddy, it’s about a teenage girl who has a new stepdad and starts having an affair with him, I remember the cover slightly it was somewhat fuschia/purple and the lettering I believe was turquoise. I read it two years ago and I haven’t been able to find it since.

There is a trial, determining her invovlement in the illegal activity and she is let of and reunited with her real family by the end.

Book I read a couple years ago

So the first one was a book series that i had read it was about five teens who meet a boarding school after their parents sent them because of a war. Please help desperately want to read this book series again

Help me find the name of this book, please!

I'm looking for a book I started reading but never got to finish. It was about this guy whose best friend named April disappears and he suspects she ran away to meet up with a maternal relative who broke out of jail. April's mother, May, denies any such thing happening but the main character is convinced that she's run away. Other details: The main character's parents both work at a law firm. His uncle happens to be in a similar business. April's siblings are also named after months, her brother is named August while I can't remember her sister's name. April's father is in this lame traveling band and he's pretty much abandoned the family. The main character has a dog named Judge. Some secretary lady works at the MC's parents' firm who's affectionate towards him. In one of the starting few chapters of the book, the MC's family goes to have dinner at this place which claims to have the best some food, can't remember what, but the MC is puzzled about why people use false advertising like that.

Wilderness Survival Novel

I'm looking for a book that had "Moon" in the title, thought the second book to the series was called "The Long Road Home" or something like that. I remember it was a book about a boy and his father living out in the wilderness, the family had just lost the father's wife. They survived by having a little survival shack, hunting and trapping and trading crops grown to the local convenience store for a little money to buy what they couldn't get out in the woods. Eventually for some reason I can't remember his dad died and the boy survived by himself and the authority chased after him with sniff dogs. The boy got away for a while because he rand and ended up at a hunting cabin. He slept at a tree and in the morning woke up to see the man hovering over him. He didn't trust the man at first and ran away. He somehow found himself there again and eventually trusted the man but the hunter called a child division services place or 911. The boy got sent to juvy and made some friends while he was there, one with cancer, and the other lived in this RV with some "weiner dogs" as pets. The boys escaped from juvy using a shower curtain and ran into the woods. They lived in a huge dead tree that had fallen over and hollowed out a bit. They hunted deer and camouflaged their orange jumpsuits with mud. Somehow the authorities found them again and his original home saying "It would take an indian chief to find it." and the boys had to run away while they were chased by mistreated/abused sniff dogs. The sniff dogs eventually caught them but the boys befriended the dogs and turned them against the abusive officer. They survived hiding in a ravine and fishing in a small creek down in the ravine, cooked the fish on a spit. That's all I remember. I think I didn't finish the book but wanted to.

A book about a boy climbing a montain which he always wanted to

Hello, I am looking for a book I read in Middle School which was soooo good. The details are Hazy so I do not know how accurate this will be. It was about a young boy and he lived in a town which was like really discriminative towards Native Americans. He was like on the rowing team at school. There was a mountain in town which he had always wanted to climb with his older brother. Before he got to the chance to, his brother died in a car accident. The car accident was caused by a Native American boy, who I think also happened to be dating the boy's sister at the time. It was like the boy really missed his brother and would go out and row like every day and eventually he got like a huge gash on his hand from breaking the ore. Then eventually he ran away from home and ended up climbing the mountain with the Native American boy. That's about all I remember and I am not sure how accurate all of it is.

Need help finding a book

I am having trouble finding two romance books! Each are stand alone books and not part of a series. They could be a harlequin or silhouette. I read them in the 90s early 00s. One was about a veterinarian or animal shelter when I picture the cover I see light green. The other is about a solider having a pen pal. I know very vague but I have been able to find all the other books I wanted with less to go on but for some reason I can’t find these. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hard 2 find real paranormal book, non-fiction

I never actually read this book but was told about it and shown a YT video summary about an hour long. It's about a guy who's wife dies and he tries contacting her ghost or something. Gets involved I some group of medians. Eventually he makes contact with some entity via one of the medians. He falls in love with the entity or median or both. The entity stirs up a lot of problems and drama between The group and has him do a bunch of things to cause problems. Eventually he comes to the conclusion the entity wasnt his wife and was actually some sort of demon. I think either before the book came out or shortly after the author killed himself over it. I think the title is similar to "hungry ghost" or something with ghost or spirit in the title.

Please help me find this book :(

The cover is an upside down city in the sky and a road on the bottom leading up to the city with a girl walking. Its about a girl and a mother that are constantly moving. They finally move to a small town. The girl becomes friends with the neighbor. She comes home to the house a mess and mom not in sight. When she goes to her room she sees a broken mirror. Police try to investigate and the Girl tries to run away. She ends up in the hospital and goes into the batroom. Looks in the mirror and sees something trying to grab her. The same thing that chases her in her dreams. She goes through the mirror into a different place. Its full of mutants and monsters. Long story short she's a princess with a father that's a king. Her mom is locked in a tower. I dont remember the rest. Please help.

Time travel to medieval times

I read this book my grandma had way back in 2009 I can’t remember the name but what I can remember is. It’s about a girl who lives in the middle of no where by the mountains. She goes for a walk and ends up finding a cave. She goes into the cave and falls through a warm hole where she wakes up in the trees outside of a town. She goes into the town and sees everyone is in rags and they stare at her. I knight shows up and she immediately things he’s handsome but he’s very rude. I can’t remember the plot but some people take her in and she stays and ends up making love with the knight and she describes it very vividly. I can’t remember if she goes back to her own time but in the end all I can remember is she finds a human skeleton at the cave and it has the same necklace she gave the knight she loved. I know that’s not a lot to go off of but I’d really like to find it.

3 Book Series

I actually think this series was mentioned here, but the book suggestion was not the right one. I've been looking forever for it, but from what I remember it was a 3 book series that followed a girl who eventually went to an academy for music or something and had a roomate whom she became very close to, but the roomate was found to have magical power and was taken away by the corrupt government. The main character then goes through great lengths to save her friend and take down this corrupt government, including spending time in a prison camp and meeting another rebel lady and her brother, Giovanni (the only character who's name I remember). They help her overthrow the camp's evil overseers and eventually fight an army of mages (where she sees her friend). At some point she does some undercover work, dressing as a man to infiltrate the enemy's base of operations. She is found out, but in the end the rebels win and the government gets overthrown. She is later arrested because she saves her friend/lover (who was supposed to be put to death with the rest of the mages) and put on trial to be executed as a traitor. Her place is taken by Giovanni who loves her (although she doesn't return his feelings) and she is set free. That's all I can think of, but goggle has failed me so far! Please let me know if anyone knows what book series I'm talking about! Thank you!

Okay so there’s three girls

Okay so there’s three girls and they’re friends although one of them like comes in the first book. It’s not set on modern times or maybe it’s juts not written in modern tones but one of the girls names is Tess and I think another ones is Martha (or maybe that’s her little sister?)but neither of those things are for sure. I remember that they all have dog hair colors I think brown yellow and red and at some point they each cut off a lock of hair and put it in a locket or something like that. I know that two of the girls live on the same street and they a bench that they go to to meet and it’s at the base of a hill and they climb the hill a lot and bring a picnic and there are chickens on top of the hill. At some pint in the book it’s winter and the narrator talks about like all her winter clothes and getting them on. It’s a series I believe and they get older/maybe boyfriends? The new friend who I think is Tess and I wanna say blonde?? I’m not sure anyway I think she has a nicer house than the other two. Other than that I can’t think of anymore details pls help it’s driving me crazy

I want to say that kind of

I want to say that kind of sounds like the Betsy-Tacy, and Tib series by Maude Hart Lovelace, but it's kinda a shot in the dark.

This definitely sounds like

This definitely sounds like the Betsy-Tacy series by Maud Hart Lovelace. Betsy and Tacy are little girls in the first book, and as you say, the third girl comes at the end of the first book: her name is Tib (she is blonde, as you describe, and lives in the fanciest house in the area). There is a chapter in the second book in the series where they cut off their hair to make keepsake lockets (Tacy nearly died of diphtheria and they wanted to keep mementos of each other). The books are from Betsy's point of view and go from age 5 up to the first years of her marriage; they end in 1917 with the US entering WW1. Lovelace based the books on her childhood: Tacy and Tib were based on her real-life best friends growing up.

Sniper I think

I'm looking for a book that if memory serves me correctly is called "Sniper". I've looked everywhere and have been unable to find it, though I read it approximately 20 years ago. If I recall, it was a work of fiction based in Seattle, WA This child and his mom moved into an apartment building in Seattle that was full older folks, and they helped the older people out at the building. There was a man they read about in the newspaper that was shooting older people about every week in Seattle with a .22 pistol, with no apparent reason in the beginning. I vaguely remember it all trying together in the end though. If anyone knows the actual title, author, anything to help me locate this book so I can read it again, I'd be grateful. Thank you in advance.

Looking for the Title of a Book I read in the 1980s

Hello everyone: Looking for the title of a book I read in the 1980s which was assigned by my English professor in college. It is about a man who used to love to ride horses but ends up in a wheelchair. He owns a diner and keeps the horse in a pasture behind the diner. I think the diner is on a dusty highway. The man is very angry. He hires a waitress who eventually helps him get on his horse again. Perhaps the horse had a white star shape on its forehead. Thanks. Been looking for this book for several years with no luck.

Jewish Fiction

I read this Jewish novel in the 90s, though it was not a new book at the time. It was about a Jewish girl in Europe who meets a very handsome man one night, it may have been on a ship. She finds out the next morning that he is a prince who came to visit her city. In the rest of the story, the prince goes searching for her without knowing that she is a Jewish woman.

Trying to find a book from my childhood

I really can't remember much about this book just that I was thoroughly intrigued by it growing up. I remember it was I think about a boy who moved into a house next to this family.. these two girls who ended up being able to turn into some kind of fish creatures they had gills and such. And I remember a part where I think the girls got caught in a fire of some sort and a necklace she was wearing got embedded into her skin from the fire or something like that. I do apologise I know it isn't much to go off but any help would be much appreciated

Have searched for so long...

It is a book or possibly a short story I was forced to read in high school where this young couple fall in love and are separated. They both encounter a long exhausting journey; the man goes into the army I think where he is eventually ship wrecked and whipped with 100 or more lashes and the girl eventually finds herself a prisoner of some soldiers and they become stranded in an old fort or something. As they become more and more hungry they decide to eat the woman’s butt cheek in order to survive. I believe she is raped as well by many men and it isn’t until the two are old that they reunite and finally are able to love one another. I apologize but this is the most I can remember.

I've tried so many times to find this but with no luck

Its a book I read in 6th grade where there were two girls doing a book report and they were checking the book out because they were doing it last minute (one was a nerdy girl and the book report was based on a book her dad always read to her.. the other was a girl who just did things last minute) The nerdy girl had the last book in stock and the other girl went up to her telling her she doesn't need the book as much as she does... they fight over it and magically go into the book.. They live through the book and I guess they have to get to the end of the story to escape (I cant remember) There's this scary witch scene where she can only smell one of the girls and that girl sprays her perfume to mislead the witch... in the end one stays and one escapes the book to tell the story.... I've tried to search google for this book so many times but I cannot find it... I also remember it was a paper back book with a purple-ish picture... I'm sorry I was 12

PLEASE HELP.

I'm looking for a book or short story (it could be a movie or show but I'm very certain it's not) and it's absolutely driving me insane. In the book, a really harsh, strict mother and her two daughters return to the mother's home country or village in desperate need of money and a place to stay. One of the daughters is described as being unattractive and the other has some sort of cognitive developmental disability and requires significant care. The mother is offering to do pretty much anything for money but no one will give her a job because her family is in some way disgraced. She's not a bad woman but she's super strict and not very pleasant. Eventually they land a job with the mother as a housekeeper in a famous painter's house. The mother cooks and cleans for this very particular, stubborn painter and the sisters spend a lot of time out in this meadow picking flowers for the painter to paint (although it's really just an arbitrary task he gives them). The painter has a young male apprentice who might have been the love interest of the main character. One day the painter asks to paint the main character because she's unusual looking. At some point the mother has a falling out with the painter, or maybe the daughters do something wrong, and they move in to this grand rich house with a family whose daughter is frail and sickly and always kept inside. The little girl is kind of a brat. I don't remember what happens next or at the end but I remember a scene where the two sisters and the rich girl are sitting in a garden and talking. There also might be an element of them visiting a church at some point but I don't remember. I was up so late trying to figure this out. Someone PLEASE help if you can.

Who Is The Author Of This Book?

Hello. Thank you for the opportunity to receive your learned assistance in this matter. I am looking for a book, "Eyes" from the late 1970s by a female author, whose name I cannot recall. However, I do recall the premise of this suspense novel. It's the story of a single man who begins a rather unusual "relationship" with a woman via the telephone. He is a social worker, who has recently broken up with his Chinese girlfriend (I only mention this as it's another detail of the story, though minor). He lives in Manhattan in the 1970s. One evening after work, he answers his phone, it's a woman caller, but a wrong number. Over time, she repeatedly calls him and, being lonely (and a social worker, and thereby a sympathetic soul to others' problems), he responds accordingly, and begins chatting with her with increasingly regularity, though they've never met. One day, while on the phone, he's startled by a noise in the apartment, concerned. His mystery caller tells him to relax as it was just his cat having knocked something over. This is when he realizes that she can not only see him, but has been watching everything he does. Realizing she's about to be discovered, she hangs up. He becomes obsessed with somehow finding her. In the epilogue, he's passing a public phone and, hearing it ring, is tempted to answer, thinking it's possibly her. Again, I know the title, "Eyes", but not the author (a woman). I would greatly appreciate finding this novel, though it's been decades, it was written in the late '70s. Thanks in advance to anyone who can tell me the author's name that I might FIND this one! Best to all!

Children/young teenagers book

I read this book years ago, it was a children or young teenagers type of book, small didn't take long to read at all but I'm pretty sure it was part of a series or something. I don't remember any names but it was about a boy and a girl, I think they were siblings, the kids ended up possibly running away or something but along the way the boy somehow gets a magic belt that turned him invisible the girl also gets a magical item I think but I can't remember what it does. Anyway, I think they end up joining some sort of "resistance" type group and fighting with them. I can't remember if they stay with them or not though. Sorry if it's not much but I haven't read the book in ages and I can't remember much. I think the group they joined lives in the forest and had a giant wall the kids had to get through or over if that helps. Thanks

Please help me find this book.

I have read this book 15-20 years ago. It was kind of a spy novel, about stopping a massive killing plan by a unknown killer. I do not remember about the main character but some of the killer. The killer was famous for not revealing his face at all and always getting job done. And actually that killer-assassin was a woman. One of the guys approach to her thinking she was a contact for the hitman, sleeps with her and she kills him with a hair dryer in the bathtub, finally revealing that the faceless hitman was a woman. After some events that I don’t remember, the hitwoman goes to a place where she was planning to kill many people, switching heliums for balloons with hydrogen or something toxic. The main character figured it out and finally stopped her. Could you please help me find this book? Thank you so much!!’

I too have been looking for

I too have been looking for this book since the mid-80s. I seem to remember the Jericho in the title and a white/purple cover. I have searched for decades to no avail. I remember poisoned whips used for one of the assassinations. And I remember the lady who set up the contracts as actually being the killer and her name was something like nieva or nunes but I don't remember anything particularly Spanish or Latin about the character. I am sure it is the same book because of the blow dryer scene and finding out she was female and very drab, not flamboyant in appearance.

Pretty sure it's what you're looking for

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm reasonably certain that you're talking about Behind The Spiritual Lines by R.J. Ellis. Though honestly even if it turns out to not be the one you wanted, it's still a great read, and one that has basically the exact same storyline progression and character relationships as you described. Best of luck!

Need title of children’s book please

This book is about two female cats who are friends. They often go to lunch at a cafeteria where they order chocolate cake, steak, and macaroons. One day one of the cats shows up in a funny hat (a very colorful hat with fake fruit). The other one (who usually wears a pillbox hat) doesn't like the hat and says pretty much that she is embarrassed to be seen in public with the first one. The second cat then refuses to be friends with the first one for some time and the two of them have to find separate places to eat lunch. Eventually the first cat apologizes and they become friends again. They then have lunch at the cafeteria which probably has cat somewhere in its name like the catroom or something. I first encountered the book probably during the early 90s/late 80s.

Could you find my book?

It's about 6 siblings, I think. They're troublemakers in an elementary school. I remember faint descriptions of a line: "There were 6 of them, one in each grade. They all smoked (yes, even the girls), caused fires, broke things. But they have never been held back a grade because teachers could never handle two of them at once." The story is told by a 3rd grader girl with a brother. It's really funny, and it's old- written in the 60's or something. It's a part of three books, I think. I read this in 4th grade, and I'm in high school, so sorry if descriptions are unclear. One is about a Christmas pageant. That's all I remember.

The Herdmans!

Those kids are the Herdmans, from the books The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and The Best School Year Ever. You have excellent taste in books! :) You also have a really good memory; those are a lot of details.

Thank you!

Thank you so much! I wanted to recommend it to my brother and to also re-read it. You're the best, thank you for taking the time to respond!

Could you find my book?

I remember this very briefly so I'm sorry for the poor descriptions. The cover had a girl and her brother, standing side by side. It looks like a mirror however it is a broken picture frame, with a drop of blood on it. I read it in elementary school- I think the main character's name was Sophie? Please help me find it.

Edit

I found my book! The title is "The Ghost of Crutchfield Hall" by Mary Downing Hahn if anyone wants to read it. I cannot tell you how satisfying it was. I'll try my best to answer some of these comments on the website.

Half human and half animal book series

I need help. A long time ago I was reading a book for the reading merit badge and I want to reread it but I can't find the book. The cover when I read it looks sorta like water with a shell in the middle of the cover with some markings. The book from what I rember is about genetically modified humans that could survive in different climates but in this book it focuses on half man and half fish. The main protagonist seams to be a type of princesses who is good with weapons and hand to hand combat but she repeatedly goes off to the surface and other places off limits like a possibility deserted lad that is protected by a shark with lasers or something similar eventually she gets on a beach and I think meets another GMH being talks about how the shells on their throats that allow them to breath underwater. I think in other books they talk about other half human half animal hybrids like half human and half bird, half human half horse and half man and half snake I think. It has been a long time since I have read those books and I might be confusing different parts of different books. I appreciate any help I can get thanks for the help

Book named Phillipa or Philippa

This book probably was published in the late 60's or early to mid 70's. It is about a teenage girl named Phillipa or Philippa who lives with her father in Sweden, or another Scandanavian country, She meets an older boy or young man who works for him and develops a crush on the boy. He thought of her as a little sister and nicknamed her "little boll." Phillipa was devastated when, during a big neighborhood parade or celebration she found out he had a girlfriend whose name was Kristen or Kirsten.

More Info

(I am the OP giving some additional information.) The young man's name may have been Ole. His girlfriend's name may also have been Kristy or Kirstie. It could have taken place in Norway. Phillipa moved in with her father when she was a teenager. I'm not sure what happened to her mother.

Maybe you guys can help me? I am searching for a book I read when I was young. It was yellow/ orange cover, kind of busy featuring a childs birthday I believe. Can't remember title

I read a book in junior high, it was part of a series, had something to do with clocks. A young boy with asthma meets and old man at his school who stabs him with I think and hour hand of a clock pierces one of his lungs and he's able to breath better...I believe the old man ends up dying and the young boy at some point sees an old mansion on a hill that no one else and see, its surrounded by a massive hedge. On one side is a kinda doorway tho its black...nothingness is a key point in this series it seems and that's what is was, once he's through this nothingness he's in the mansion but it's like another world completely complete with a different civilization of sorts sorta stuck in the past...multiple levels each control by a person with a hand from a clock....hour, minute and I believe the second hand as well...his goal is tho claim all the hands and free everyone...at one point he has to use this stairway that only exist as long as he's moving and thing of the stairs...many times he gets stuck somewhere else...as long as there is an image of stairs he can get back to the the staircase he needs...sorry not sure if that's enough info, been looking for it for awhile, found it once been it's been a bit. The older sister marries him and doesn’t know about her sister’s affair. Husbands favorite childhood book

My husband only remembers the plot: Inthe jungle a young boy finds a small peanut-shaped alien and helps it get to a place where it will hibernate. Thank you for any and all suggestions:)

What's the name?!

I read a book around 2005, checked it out at the local library. About a girl that meets this new guy in town who starts out being super nice. Another guy shows up soon after. The first boy ends up being a sociopath and the other is an undercover cop I think. At one point they go to his house where he says he lives with his aunt to find just a bean bag chair and a tv. I think the cover is a picture of a broken vase.

Girl with violet eyes.

I can't remember the name of this book or the characters names but I do know the main character had violet eyes and she hated them because it makes her different. Then a brother and sister who claim they knew her before when she was younger come rescue her from some kind of shadow monster and tell her she has some kind of incredible power because of the color of her eyes. I know the girl has astronomy class with the brother and they're soulmates but can't physically touch. I know it has something to do with demons as well, like they try to come to earth through some kind of portal in lake. I know the book cover is all white with one violet eye in the center it's the first in series. If you know what book this please help.

The Fallen Star

I read a book about 4 years

I read a book about 4 years ago. I can only remember the name of the wife (who dies right in the beginning) her name is Billy. She has two kids (girl and boy) The best friend is a jewellery maker and looks after the kids, while the husband mourns. She decides to look after the kids while he works. For the life of me, I cannot remember this book.

I can’t remember the title

The book was qualified as a supernatural book but I remember a girl was living with her parents who were having bad problems in there marriage and one day her dad just walked out abruptly. But the supernatural part of the story is next door is a family with a dead son that she sees from her bedroom window.... I can’t remember a whole lot.

I read this novel years before but I couldnt recall the title

There were three siblings two brothers and a sister.. The storyline starts while they were locked inside a bank locker inside their house by their father they could sense that something was wrong so when they escaped from the locker they came to find that their home was completely destroyed and there was a big hole in their living room. Through it they saw that the hole city was like that. They decided to go to their grandparents house which is just outside the city. On the way they found many weird things.. Such as a group of horseman and a alien which was like a monkey. Later when they reached their grandparents house they were to be attacked by aliens so then the man in horse they saw in the city helped them escape and told them the location of the safe haven

YA mystery

I can remember that it involved a group of teen friends who go to stay at a huge house that has a recording studio in the basement. The recording studio is significant during the course of the mystery I think. One girl is very sick and has a pet bird that tests her food and drink for her. At one point a guy shoots a snake. A few of the girls were or are cheerleaders and one is still upset about a prank that happened during a routine. A flashback shows one of the girls poisoning a drink with bleach meant for one girl who stole her boyfriend, but ends up being drunk by the girl that ends up sick and she is too scared to say anything before she drinks it. That’s about all I can remember :/

Weekend by Christopher Pike

Weekend by Christopher Pike

I think it's called For Her Eyes Only

Okay yes it sounds dubious and yes it was probably distributed by passions books or something, but I can't find it anywhere. It was a cool story. Female Navy officer who had to work with a movie star play boy, the plot was thicker than that. It was a drug/mystery and a decent story. I can't find it anywhere-- now I'm trying to re-create it by memory.

Can't find this book

I should have asked about this book years ago when I still remembered most of the details. I started this book in the library got very far and didn't finish so I really want to! I believe this book was about a young woman who was part of this group of people who lived in this frozen landscape of a world. I believe that they had powers to change into wolves and that at a certain point the main character got injured badly. But beyond that I can't remember. I think the cover had the main character walking through a mountainous snowy landscape and the name had something to do with 'wolf'. Please help!

I think I found it...

Ok ok ok. So don't get your hopes up, but I think this is your book. The one I'm talking about is a series called "The Wolves of Mercy Falls." There are four books: Shiver, Linger, Forever, and Sinner. The characters in it can change into wolves, and the cover is a person walking through a snowy landscape! The cover also has something to do with "wolf," like you said. I hope this is it... is it? Please let me know!

Pocketbook story

There's this book that I'm dying to find but I can't remember the title of the story and much worse is the author of that story because it has been so many years as in since I last read it. The only thing that I remembered was the name of the male lead which is Marco Mondragon and the little sum of the storyline. The storyline is about the rich girl who pretended to be poor because she wants to be noticed and get close with her crush who is fortunately the brother of Marco named Kenneth and is a model, the girl applied to Marco as an secretary out of desperation hoping to be close with her crush. That's all I can just remember hope you'll help me! Thanks!

This doesn't seem to match

This doesn't seem to match the plot you describe, but Marco Mondragón is a lead character in The Spanish Brand series by Carla Kelly.

College Literature

I read a story between 1992-1995 while pursuing my Associate's degree. I can't remember anything but an image and I'm not even sure if the image is in the book or created in my head from the text. At any rate, God/Universe/Divine is sitting there looking at his fingers. There is a ring on each finger and each ring is a planet. Any ideas? I didn't realize at the time that it would have such an impact on me, but I haven't been able to let it go. Wish I could contact my college professor! Thanks for any help.

biography

Looking for a biography that I read over 15 years ago. Placed during ww2 about a German guy who worked on punch cards or similar (he talks about the early computers) possibly a part of the party or a resistance figher. I think it would have been published in the 80s the cover was drawn pictures with a profile of a bearded man, white background. The name Gerhard comes to mind but not 100% certain. It was written in English.

novel about a man who checks in to what he thinks is an inn

I am looking for the title of book about a man who checks in to what he thinks is an inn one night, but when he is dissatisfied with the place and tries to "check out", it becomes apparent that his son has checked him into some kind of care of facility. The "clerk" at the the front desk is a manager who is unsympathetic and unhelpful. The guy befriends some other residents and they plot to escape. One of their attempts involves stealing the car of a visitor who has left the keys in the ignition. I am pretty sure that this book is NOT The 100 Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared.

I can't remember novel

I read a novel that was about a guy that died on the day of the wedding of the girl he likes, but was too afraid to admit he like her. He goes to the underworld and becomes the brother to Yama or Satan and is sent back in time to his high school days. He meets the girl he liked before and becomes her boyfriend. Also, he used to be the CEO of Microsoft and now that he went back in time, he started to program the Microsoft software and sells it to Microsoft. Also, he learns how to cultivate and do martial arts. So I think this is a translated Chinese novel, but I am not sure. That's all I remember, please help me find the title of novel.

Please help! What is the title of the book

A boy (15year old) who was accused/convicted murdering a man/woman (cant remember), saved by a lawyer/investigator with HIS SIDEKICK like a machine that uses hologram in the crime scene, like Jarvis in Iron Man. Please help! Thank you!

I just can't seem to remember

So when I was in middleschool or so I read a thriller/horror book about this girl who lived in a town with rumors of a little ghost girl haunting the forest. I believe the main girl character was having car trouble/ was coming home from somewhere when a boy a little older than her (he was an adult of like 21 i believe the girl was late teenager) flagged her down from his car and gave her a ride home. It continues to show those two characters as they grow closer. Eventually it's revealed the "ghost girl" was infact the boys dead sister but she wasn't a ghost (I believe her name was Carry or something similar?) and he would kidnap young girls around the main characters age and similar in looks and keep them pretending they were his dead sister... I'm pretty sure the only reason the main character figures this out is finding something in the trash can? Like she found something strange that shouldn't have been there if he was a man living alone, I for the life of me cannot remember what it was, but i just remember her thinking it was strange. that is all i can remember but i'd love to eventually be able to reread this book if anyone can help i'd really appreciate it.

Driving me literally insane

I've been on a kick lately about rereading books I read in high school. There are two books I'm looking for (or maybe it's just one, I'm really not sure). The first one, is a young adult but all I really remember is the main character is a chick, but the guy in the book wears a pink shirt, cammo shorts, and combat boots. I read it between 2000-2007, it was a new book in my school library... The other one is also a young adult book, the book cover has a girl with short purple or blue hair that covers her eyes and she's wearing lipstick. I think the title to this book was just one word (ex: Lips, Eyes). Also read this between 2000-2007. I don't know if these are two different books or the same book; I also think the second book I described is part of a series. Thank you for any help you can give me.

I can’t remember the name of a book

I don’t remember the name of the book. It was something I read around 5 to 6 years ago. It was a book about an expedition to the Mount Everest by a boy and his mom (I think) where they meet a local tribe. The tribe has a princess or rather the Chief’s daughter who gets kidnapped or lost in mountains one day along with another girl. The expedition was initially to prove the existence of yeti. But as they try to find the princess they find a group of creatures almost like humans but nothing like them at the same time. They have been keeping the princess in capture. In the end, all I remember is they rescue the princess and make a rope out of their hair. I hope someone helps me find this. I don’t remember if the author is Indian or not. It could be though.

I am looking for a book about a young man who is dared to live on a isolated island for one year. I think it's an old book. I have been looking all over for this but can't seem to find it. Does anyone remember what this book is called?

Hi!

Hi! Not sure that's the one you're looking for, but does it have a tragical ending and is it quite old (as in, maybe '70-'80s old?) If so I read it too but I can't remember the full title. I believe it begins with "the year of" though. Hope you find it!

I don’t think it was on a dare, but this is the theme of a wonderful book called ‘An island to oneself’ by Tom Neale. My grandfather had this book and I still love it.

can you help me find this

can you help me find this book i read about a female wolf who left her home town and blocked her wolf for eight years only to come in contact with her mate who is about to get married to her sister eight years later

i should have kept a better reading diary

i checked this book out from our local library several times yet could never remember the title or author. was published probably in the late 70's or early 80's. a teenage girl suffers from black outs and doesn't know why. she must have had some trauma or a neurological issue. no one knows what is wrong with her. eventually, she becomes close with her teacher (might have been a music teacher?) who engages her interest in visual art. she takes her to a museum where they see an exhibition of aubrey beardsley's work which inspires in her a very disturbing reaction especially to the medusa drawing.

Help me find this book

I read this book years ago and can't remember the name. It's centered in a small religious town. The main character is apart of the choir and has a crush on a boy. I think he was ginger. His little sister is kidnapped and he is under question. The main character helps to find out more about the girl's disappearance, knowing her brother isn't behind her disappearance. The book is a mix between a green/blue/ and purple and has a flower on the front. I know her family is dysfunctional and i think it was her mom who stays in a facility. I don't remember much else.

Okay so this is an old book.

Okay so this is an old book. There are characters on a carriage, I think they are strangers? Each is a bit of a stereotype. They each tell a story to pass the time on the way to the destination

Well, this definitely sounds

Well, this definitely sounds like Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales. But it is possible that you were reading a remake of it.

Trying to remember the name of this book

I don't know if this particular book has been asked about, but I am looking for a murder mystery/crime book I read way back in 2007ish. I remember I bought it at the airport while waiting for our next flight. However, I left it behind when I moved and I don't know if my mother threw it out or not when they moved to a new house. Traveling back home to look in the old house is not possible. We still own it, it's just too far to travel. It was purchased in Germany, but the book was in English. It apparently is the second or third in a detective series. I remember that the killer ended up being a baker/cake decorator with giant hands and the detective actually asks him how he can decorate cakes with such large hands. I think the cover was red and gold, possibly with a bird on the front (which would be the gold color). If anyone has any idea on what book this could be, I would be eternally grateful for the title so I can read the rest of the series!

Trying to remember the book

I read it when I was in elementary school, but it was about a girl who gets stuck on africa, she talks about the heat a lot and how the sun makes her skin like leather and she eats figs and adapts. She maybe gets rescued and learns to work on the ship and starts drinking her coffee black and starts to prefer it that way. The rest is a blur.

Book Golden Urchin

I know that this was over a year ago, but try the book Golden Urchin. Even if its not, its definitely my all time favorite and I would highly recommend it :)

Is it this?

The Burning Shore by Wilbur Smith.

I can't remember the title of this book from long ago

Okay so the history I have with this book is, that I remember reading it back in middle school around 2012. I think it had the protagonist on the cover with a tree and a raven or something like that, I think it had the title of "Raven," but there's to many raven books on the internet. Anyways, I think it was a mystery book, something for teens if anything. So, from what I remember is, that there was this word "phosphorous" or something like that. That the someone or the protagonist question these crackers that were given to him that contained something like that, and something about it being made from urine or something. Now I think about it, I think I recall that these crackers, when eaten, allows you to see some like of UV light or something, I don't remember. So anyways stuff happens and what not, that beings a clue mystery thing, if I can recall. Maybe some adult helping the protagonist, and some raven, I don't remember. But I do remember the ending where he is confronted with a-I assume a female villain that gives him a riddle of where to find his parents around this mansion they were at. But he was given a time limit for something. Either it was this item everyone in his group was trying to find-if there was a group, that if he didn't figure it out in time, they'll die and he has to give up this item. That or she or the villain-could be a he, gets away, not being willingly caught from the bargain that was given out from either the boy or villain. Anyways, he was running out of time or lost the game, but realizes the riddle given to him. So he goes outside somewhere on the mansion grounds and digs up his parents and release them from a coffin or transparent glass coffin. I don't remember. But it was the start of his journey for sure and the adult man helping the kid out. I serious think he was helped by a man. Anyways, that's all I can go on. Hope I can get my answer.

It's "The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater"! Mann, I spent the all of the morning trying to think of the name, ooof.

Name of the book

A girl’s memory of her childhood with her older sister. Her older sister I think was anorexic. They went swimming one day and her sister drowned and died in a tide (her sister believed she’s a mermaid). The girl would blame herself for not saving her sister. Her parents thought her sister had problems, so her sister would have to go to therapy. While in therapy, her sister would lie and makeup her stories and not take her meds. Her sister liked this boy that were their friends. This boy and the girl later in the story coped together about the sister death.

Hi I am looking for a children’s book between the late 90’s and 2000’s. The books main characters were monsters and it was ultimately about self esteem. HELP ME FIND THIS LOVE STORY PLEASSEEE

I feel like I read this love story awhile ago but I can’t remember the title!! It’s not Double Dare by RL Mathewson I’ve read it a ton it’s something else. But this book is about a girl who I think comes from a family that doesn’t care about her much. So she’s best friends with this family of like 5 boys, all brothers, and I believe all their names start with the letter R. One of the boys is closer with her than the rest, but there’s another brother that’s also in love with her so back in high school he made a rumor up about her so his brother would hear it and not want to date her (still don’t remember the rumor). Either way when she was 15 she had to get surgery on her breasts due to her likelihood of getting breast cancer. Due to that she feels less like a woman. Fast forward and she has to get a hysterectomy now and she feels even less like a woman now. The the brother she’s closer with finds out about it and gets upset she’d think he wouldn’t love her. If you find the book I’ll love you forver it’s been killing me. The key part is that she feels like like a woman cause these surgeries and the one brother started a rumor so the other wouldn’t date her.

Gigglebelly

I found a book on Amazon: “Mrs Gigglebelly Is Coming for Tea,” by Donna Guthrie

Can't find this book

I remember reading this book in 6th grade. From my memory, it is about a boy who's got an older brother, little sister, mom, and I forgot if the dad was there. I don't remember too much but all I can remember is that the family went on a road trip and the two brother would fight over who would have the little sister's head on whose lap when she lied down on their laps in the car. They didn't want the little sister's head on their laps because she drooled when she slept. Another thing I remember is that the two brothers trespassed and were swimming in a lake that was off limits. One of the brothers were being pulled down deeper into the lake and the other brother saved him somehow. I believe they called this lake monster the Pooh bear. If anyone's got any idea just let me know thanks!

Do you know this book?

It's a children's book series from the 2000s. It was about two sisters (possibly twins) one of which was named Reese. I remember one of the books was about them in school and they had to take care of their own egg babies. In another book they were searching in their parents closet for their Christmas gifts but didn't find them. Anyone know what this book is?

Forgotten book that I've been searching for for eight years

I've been looking for a book that I read when I was in kindergarten or so. It wasn't necessarily a children's book, as I have always been an advanced reader and was reading 200 page-and-up books when I was in third grade. The most that I can remember, and it really intrigues me, is that the main character is a girl who needs to solve puzzles in these rooms, though there might be more to it than that. I can't remember if she had an ultimate goal, just that she needed to keep advancing. One room she got to made her pause, however. There was a curtain in the room obscuring the far wall (and for some reason I remember these roons as being hexagonal or octagonal? That may just be my own mind though) and from behing the curtain she kept hearing these noises that terrified her. Eventually she managed to steel herself and find the courage to draw back the curtain, and when she does, what she sees standing there is not some monster, but herself. It was this philosophical kind of thing about yourself being the thing you're most scared of, or your greatest enemy being yourself, but again, I was six. The details have become a little fuzzy. I also remember the books (I believe it was a series, but I may have been holding multiple, similar books in the memory I'm drawing this from) being pastel-hued, with purple, peach, and orange sticking out in my pink particularly. One of those three. They were fairly thick as I remember them, not short, but I couldn't give a good estimate on page number. The time period they're from is probably relatively recent, nothing before the 1900s, I'd guess. Thank you so much!

It's about this bipolar girl named v who moves into this small town with her artist mother for the summer. V works at a pottery shop, where she meets this chef boy named (I think it's Jordan? J something at least) who's father just died, The dude's mom is grieving the death, so he has to take care of the kids. It doesn't actually end happily. V impulse buys a motor scooter/bike and finds the father she never met, who has a new family instead of her. She then later crashes said bike.

Read this book in the 90's where an orphan woman think her name is Betsy or Bessy, lives with distant relatives in the country where she meets a man accused of murdering his fiance by the towns people but his best friend at the time murdered her in the end because he was also in love with the woman.

Lost Book

This is a childrens book about a young African American boy who either gets into some trouble or loses his confidence. He goes to a gypsy and she gives him a special box and tells him to always keep it by his side. The boy grows up and becomes very successful... One day when he is grown he opens the wooden box and sees that it's only a mirror with his reflection inside.
I can't remember the title of this book- It's a fiction (I think Y/A) book about a girl whose parents die so she moves in with her uncle and they adopt a white dog named Mellomar(?). At one point she breaks a bone and everyone things she's depressed but she says she's just clumsy. Her uncle is very attractive and wants to be a real estate agent. Her uncle tries to sell a house and she has to light a cinnamon candle. She lives by the beach. I think there is a lighthouse on the cover with the white dog who has a little bit of brown coloring. Please help me!!

Found something close....

I searched for "dog named Mallomar" (like the snack cakes) and found a book called One Year In Coal Harbor, by Polly Horvath. There's definitely an uncle (Jack) and a young girl goes to live with him. I didn't see anything about a cinnamon candle or him being a real estate agent; either I've got the wrong book (sorry) or you may be combining two books in your head. Hope you find what you're looking for!

I found it! I had been

I found it! I had been looking for this one too! Everything On A Waffle by Polly Horvath. I looked up the book in the comment below and it wasn't quite right, but it's by the same author so that led me to this one.

Shot in the Dark

I read a book from the late 90s/early 2000s in middle school. I only have vague memories of the book, but I figured I'd take a shot in the dark in case it was actually very popular. The book was centered around a teenage male protagonist, and it was realistic fiction based on standard social drama types of issues. There was one part of the book where the boy was in a girl's basement, but her dad came home angry, so he was forced to run/hide. The only other memories I have from it are like visions from a dream that I can't really describe. I think the cover was red and black, but can't remember unfortunately.

Son of the Mob by Gordon

Son of the Mob by Gordon Korman, has a scene like that

Looking for a book. It's part of a series. I think the characters are called Lucy and Cole. They meet when they're 15 and Lucy's dad is an alcoholic. The book goes through to college as well.

Sweet Short Story

I listened to a short story in a collection of short stories years ago. I can't remember all of the details, but I loved it! It was about a small town or community that kept fire alive by always keeping embers and even people smoking to pass on the flame. It was in a great and well told collection of short stories on an audio cd. I just can't remember any other details...

Try to find a book I read

Looking for a book I read that was set in the Pacific NW somewhere. A city was quarantined and some young people began to notice really strange things happening. People were blending with inanimate objects. One person was stuck in a ceiling as if he were a part of it. Someone got trapped in a wall. There was something really strange at the city hospital and it was initially guarded by the military. Lots of strange flashing lights and odd sounds coming from it. A couple of kids tried to get out but were forced to return by the military. There was a strange opening in the sky and it was hinted that this led to another universe that was taking over this universe and people were being trapped between the two, hence the people in the ceilings and walls. At the end of the book, it was suggested that the hole in the sky was expanding and would eventually swallow up the earth. I would love to find this book. Thanks.

Help find book

I can't remember the name of the book. Believe it was young adults or teen fantasy or science fiction. Was about a girl who was sold to (maybe) and went to live an abbot. They were warrior monks. She trained with two ring blade weapons. I think here name was Reign. They had to fight a darkness coming into their world from another realm and she was drawn to it?

Looking for a book

This book is about a doctor finding GOD. He goes to Africa and helps a farmer with advanced tuberculosis and without the proper equipment manages to save him. The farmer notices the doctor and says "You look like you are wondering what you are doing here." The doctor says, "Yes I do wonder." The farmer replied, "You are here because God sent you to help me." There were other stories in the book but I can't remember them. If any one knows the name of the book I would appreciate your telling me. Thanks. ... Gil

I forgot this beautiful book's title I read a few years ago...

There was a book I picked up, it was about survivors of a disease that wiped out everyone over 18 years of age, it caused them to accelerate really quickly...and so they decided to use their remaining time to build camps for children's and also a special place where every single copy of a book is kept for the future generations. They nearly found the cure but they didn't had enough time and so they wanted to children to find the secret vault with the books and to find a cure. There's two main groups in the story, one are called Zeds and they are like caveman, they can't speak well and little children are taught to be brutal. The other group is where the main character is in, and they are more civilized in a safe base. I remember they started the quest to find the vault when they found a girl who was 17 years old and was educated, I think her name was Lucy or Ruby, but she taught the main character who is a boy how to read and able to retell the story of peter pan and the ending is sad because it was a year later and they found the vault after many sacrifices from their friends and Ruby/Lucy's last resting place because she was ageing quickly was inside the vault where the main character picked a book from the shelf and read it to her as she slowly died... Please help me find the title.... I really want to re-read it!

The Soterion Mission by Stewart Ross

Native american child's book

I only really remember that there were two girls who always looked at the moon and say they love the moon, one night the moon wanted to test them and told them he will take them up high into the sky (most likely to his palace I think) and they must keep their eyes closed as he grabs their hair or something, and one girl got impatient and opened her eyes, soon as she did he dropped her while the other one kept hers closed. She got some sort of necklace that the book came with at the end. Oh I also remember something about their beauty having to do with their chins.

Booook

The book was about a boy which was very troubled. At the beginning of the book everything was unclear about what happened to him. The book had chapters (especially in the beginning if I remember correctly) which were interviews with people who knew the boy. The interviewees were talking about how they would not expect the things he had done. After that you will find out that he was abused by his father, he was beaten. It turns out that as a result of the abuse, he kills someone in a park, but he does not realize what he is doing. He has a best friend, which has a younger sister. Eventually he rapes the little sister multiple times at her home while her parents and brother are out of the house. It is written in the point of view of the disturbed boy. I think the disturbed boy also had a little sister and he takes care of her. Does anybody know this book? I think it was written bij a female, but Im not 100% sure about that.

Children's picture book

Hi, I have been looking for years with no luck for a book from my childhood. It was about a little girl who was moving and wanted to bring the moon with her. She put it in this little box. It was something like it got cloudy when they were moving so she truly believed she had brought the moon in her little box. I can't remember the title but the art was beautiful. I think the girl's name started with C... Like Cecelia or Cynthia or something. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When she started talking to the boy in her head, they both realized that she was standing next to him in the elevator. That's all I remember about the book. Please help!!!!

Trying to find this book

All I can really remember is that the main character is half fairy. Her parents were banished because the father is human (not to sure, it has been years since I've read it.) So in order to see them again, she had to give up her powers. There was also a talking cat. The cover was of her flying if that is able to help.

Looking for a book about a girl immigrating to America

I used to live in Rotterdam, NY. My 4th grade teacher use to read a book to the class during our lunch break. The book was about a girl migrating to America with her sister (they were European, maybe Dutch, maybe German). They were going to live with their uncle, who was already there. But during the journey on the ship the letter with their Uncle’s address flew away with the wind and when they arrived they couldn’t find their uncle. They suffered poverty, living I believe in NY and I remember being touched by their story. I remember there was alo an Italian family (maybe Gina was the name of one of the members of this family). I remember that the younger sister was the main character. I remember the desperation of the sisters when they did not find their uncle waiting for them at the port ( I believe in New York ). I remember there was a happy ending. Their uncle finally finds them! Any clues?

Could the girls have been

Could the girls have been friends not sisters? I am thinking this sounds quite a bit like a book called "Victoria Crossing" by Micheal Wallace. Same premise as you describe. The reason I suggest it even with the differences is the "desperation" when he was not waiting for them. Great read either way.

I remember a long time ago

I remember a long time ago hearing this story about a family that moves into a new house. They have 2 girls that start asking for more snacks at night because of the shadow kids. One night the mom goes to check on them and they are sleeping in the same bed. She realizes that they aren't breathing and pulls the blanket down to see why and the girls bodies are all chewed up. Turns out the house was previously occupied by a man who locked his girls in their room and starved them to death.

Picture book about old lady who wants a new home

Read in MA in the early 1980s. A little old lady had a little house with a brook in the back and a cow and probably some pets. She wasn't completely satisfied and decided to move; went round the corner and moved in there; the scenario repeated itself 4 times, which brought her back to her old house, which someone had painted in her absence. She was so delighted when she found that perfect house.

Found it!

It's 900 buckets of paint by Edna Becker. Credit for the solve actually goes to the folks at Loganberry Books; I knew I had seen it in their "Stump the Bookseller" forums, so I googled parts of your query along with their store name and it popped right up. Yay!

Hello,

Hello, I'm looking for a adult romance book I've been thinking about lately, can'tremember of it's good but I liked the storyline it has a semi similar premise as the New Species series. There are a group of individuals being tested on (can't remember if they were created or already existed) who have the key to a cure for a deadly disease. A young women comes back from getting her medical degree to work with her father who is one of the head scientists there. One of the more dominant males of the experimenter on group loved her when she was younger and I belive they had a short fling before she left. He has a son with one of the other experimented females. He still cares for the human women and 'works' with her to help find the cure. He realizes shes sick when he smells or can tell something is off. They test her blood and she has the disease. He really quick fixes the issue and has her try again and tries to make her think she was never sick so she won't know he knows the key to curing the disease.

YA novel about girl who befriends a 19th century family

I'm looking for this book - I can't remember author, title, or main character's name. A girl finds a family living in the 19th century, right around the corner in her neighborhood, she can visit them anytime. They are religious, the boys are named Shem, Ham and Japheth. She brings them things like soda cans and pizza which they think are amazing, she spends the night there sometimes, under the goosedown comforter with hot rocks from the stove. I read it in the 1990s, I think it was contemporary to then. I can't remember why they lived like that, I think they were under some kind of curse, and they couldn't leave their century, and maybe she was sort of the only person who could come to them, for some random reason. They didn't know anything about the modern world, but they became good friends of hers, and explored the meaning of modern ideas like feminism and how that would come across to a 19th century frontier type housewife. It was a fascinating book and I started getting curious about when I realized how hard it was to find a book when you can't remember those basic details. Please let me know if anyone has heard of this book or knows what it is called. Thanks so much.

Help me find this book

So i read this book like 3 or 4 years ago an it was the 1st book in a series. I have no clue who was its author or the name of the book i just remeber the plot vaguely.so it starts with a girl sneeking in a shady garrage kind of place to find her sister who maybe is her twin ,where she is attacked by bad guys. A guy saves her who later revealed is some kind of a prince or something. So it is revealed that is some kind of prophecy revolving around her sister as she has some sort of mark on her body and the prince took her to protect her from the bad guys. Basically she is the key to stop the bad guy. The prince stays with the girl and falls for her later revealed that she is the siater they actually wanted as she has the mark which was hid by her mother by tattooing on it when she was 7 or 8. Later they go in the place or whatever where the sisters meet and the truth is revealed. Basically the ending is a cliffhanger where the bad guys attack the palace and eveyone is running ,so the prophecy girl ends up in a field or something where everyone is attacking each other . It is a fantasy paranormal book . If anybody has any idea which book it is please do tell , i am literally dying. P.s- the other sister is a necromancer or something who can see the future or whatever

Two book/book series I’m trying to find

The first is a urban fantasy, the story is based around Vegas (I think) a hotelier who has some kind of magic portal in the bottom of his hotel. A female who may need his help? (Not sure) and I’m pretty sure there are evil supernaturals trying to end the word.. not a lot to go on I know. The second is based around a magically hidden supernatural City in the US, I can’t remember much about the storyline. I know a women is brought to the City and is staying with someone till she’s on her feet, it’s not the series, hidden City.. I know both descriptions are very vague and that’s why I’m having trouble finding them, any help greatly appreciated.

The book I read takes place

The book I read takes place in the future and there’s like an ice age or something (it’s dystopian). The girl in the book had strange colored eyes and so she wore colored contacts. Strange eye colors were common but illegal and the girls were the strangest. She’s teams up with a boy. Two scenes that I vividly remember are that the girl and the boy go to a casino type place and gamble to win money, there ends up being a bomb at the place and the girls colored contacts are burned away and they have to try to escape. Another scene at the end is that those two are on a boat trying to escape and she feels a power deep in the water below her. She ends up summoning like a giant water serpent/dragon thing that saves them. If you know this please help!

About a girl who was ill and lived with her dad who was a dollmaker. He wouldn't allow her to go out to play with other children she saw in the street because she wasn't well. She used to watch them play and so he made her three dolls - likenesses of the children she longed to play with. People would ask to buy them but he always said they were not for sale. Many years later she is old and comes back to the derilect shop, her father has died and she looks around and finds the three dolls and then somehow (I cant recall exactly) meets the three friends as old people. She gives them the dolls of themselves.

This family adopts a girl called Alice and she comes to live with them in a remote area. She comes from a family where her mother was a drug user and saw things so Alice was removed from her care. The new family has a daughter who is the same age as Alice and doesn't like the new addition to the family. Her mother is pregnant and as the story continues it's the birth of the new child that brings Alice and this other girl closer as they try to help the mother. Children's book, science fiction

Each child had been given a pet, main character called his "Pinky" (I think). Pinky didn't have eyes or feet or mouth, but could FORM eyes or feet or mouth as needed. It liked to sit on his shoulder. Another boy tried to pet it, but it nipped him with real teeth. One day Pinky fell into some acid; in panic the boy rescued him, and rinsed him with water--layer after layer of damaged tissue came off, until with a sigh of relief the boy uncovered a smaller pink blob, still alive. He gratefully put Pinky back on his shoulder, where the creature gazed at him contentedly with eyes that were sometimes there, sometimes not...
