In Search of the Forgotten Title

Connecting readers with books is a singular goal here at the New York Public Library, and one way we try to do it online is through a post: "Finding a Book When You've Forgotten Its Title."

Nearly a thousand—a THOUSAND!—people have commented on the post, which helps readers find tools to search more effectively for forgotten titles themselves. Once they reach a dead end, though, many of them leave comments in the hope that their descriptions will ring a bell.

Many library staff members respond throughout the year, and we now hold an annual event on a summer afternoon on a Friday to try to knock out as many of the comments, collectively, as we can. This year, we gathered in a classroom at the 42nd Street Library and at branches around the city, and people played along online at #NYPLTitleQuest, too.

We made more than 50 educated guesses at forgotten titles! Here's a sample of the books we found:

  • A YA dystopian novel about teens traveling through space to harvest a secret, powerful element: Nyxia by Scott Reintgen
  • Fiction about a young artist with a secret marriage to a rock star: Easy Connections by Liz Berry
  • A creepy book about a serial-killer teacher: Heartstopper by Joy Fielding
  • The story of a girl with a crescent moon on her forehead: The Cataluna Chronicles by R.L. Stein

More details are below:

Book Submitted by John on November 4, 2018 - 1:39am

I read this book a few months ago. It is a dystopian novel, has a male teenage protagonist, male author. It’s about this substance that can be shapeshifted into anything using the mind. The protagonist is on a spaceship with I think 19 other teens to go to a planet where this substance can be harvested. They compete to determine who gets to harvest it, and there’s a monetary reward for the winner. I believe the name of the book is the name of the substance, but I can’t remember what the substance was called. The cover was blue and black and shiny I think. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Please help me find this book Submitted by Kate on January 5, 2018 - 1:57am

I read this book in the late 1980's and my local library (Ashgrove, Queensland, Australia). Young art student sleeps with a rockstar, she gets pregnant, they secretly marry than the press find out and her attempt at continuing to have a quiet life is over. May have been classed as YA fiction.

We think this book is Easy Connections by Liz Berry!

I started reading this book and I want to finish it Submitted by Antonia on December 26, 2017 - 6:59pm

I barely started reading this book before my friend lost it, please forgive my lack of details. The story starts off about a serial killer explaining why he kills teenage girls often on a trail where they go running. He is a teacher at the school so he chooses them there. He kills them just because they're easy or because they have something he desires. A young blonde teen is his next target because he loves her golden shaded hair. She is running down the trail when he tries to kill her, tasting her hair and moaning at one point, but she gets away. A friend of hers happens to be driving by as she starts to run away and she gets away because he gave her a ride. That's only the beginning of the book.

Hi, am looking for a book about a girl with a crescent moon birthmark on her forehead and everyone in her town hates her because they think she's a witch and brings badluck.

We think this might be The Cataluna Chronicles by R. L. Stine!

Help me find this book!

I've been trying to find this book for many years. I read it in the mid-70's, and was one of my favorite books, one of many I would check out from the library. It was about a young girl who has to move with her family to a house on some property. She was lonely and unhappy, when she discovers a forgotten horse there. He was an old horse, undernourished. She keeps him a secret and nurses him back to health. His name was Warlord. The rest of the story is hazy to me.

Lost book

Are you thinking of “the secret horse” by Marion Holland? I read this in the early 2000s as a kid and it sounds the same, it was published in 1959

Forgotten title

I read this book in the early 90’s recommendation from a friend who liked Anne Rice although I don’t know that it was an Anne rice book. I was reluctant to even read it. I never tried to read thrillers as my work was already filled with violence and tragedy and evil. I mostly remember the dog. It walked through an urban environment sniffing things and you read the dog’s commentary about what he was smelling and experiencing. There was maybe a drunk homeless guy in a cardboard box. I just never forgot the interesting dogs perspective and would love to read it again. Thanks for trying on this long shot with little detail though!

It was published in 1999, but

It was published in 1999, but possibly Timbuktu by Paul Auster? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timbuktu_(novella)

I don't remember the title and the author, I don't even remember the main plot of the book, but I do remember that one of the background(?) characters was a grown up and he read a lot of books that weren't age appropriate (like children/young adult books?) and that reading them was not good for him? and he got enlisted and died in some battle? it was in Russia? and it may be that those books were censored at that time? and it was in the times of Bonaparte? and he died because he read too much about heroic deeds and stuff?

I am going crazy over this plzzzzzzzzzzz help

So i read this book about this girl whos grandfather died and she was like really sad and stuff and like a week later or so her dad sent her to a princess school and they had to drink this weird tea stuff and the princesses would have competitions every week to see who was the prettiest so that they could get eaten by a dragon and she won one week and she chalenged him to a riddle war and she said the riddle that her grandfather told her and it was how can you throw a ball and it comes back to you without bouncing off of anything and he couldnt guess it so he lost and i dont remember what happens after that but someone plz help meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee tysm

Book About a Fairy

I'm looking for a children's book from the 1970s about a fairy. I think her name started with a Z and that was the title of the book. She was looking and looking for a house to no avail. Every time she found a house something would happen and she had to leave. She lived in a tin can and a bee hive. The last home she found was with a child (little girl?) who had a doll house where she could live. I think the child had a bad cat. That's all I remember.

I think this is Zeee, by

I think this is Zeee, by Elizabeth Enright. Zeee doesn't live in a tin can or a bee's nest, but a pickle jar and an abandoned wasp's nest. She hates humans because they can't see her and are always destroying her homes, but at the end she befriends a young girl who rescues her from the cat who's about to eat her when she's trapped in a spider's nest, and goes to live in the girl's dollhouse.

Trying to find a book I read years ago

I was loaned a book years ago, and I can't remember the author or title. It was basically about a man who hired prostitutes (I think) and flew them to his cabin in the woods. Everything was ok for a few days until he would set them loose in the woods and hunt them.

Book about girl and her dolls from her dad.

My mom was telling me about a book she read when she was little. It’s a book about a girl who’s dad was a sea captain. Every time he went away he got a doll that had something that reminded him of his daughter. (Wether it was eyes, ears, etc.) well, at the end of the book the girl picks up all her dolls and took them to a doll maker. A while later she gets a call from the doll maker saying she needs to come back, and when she does it’s a miniature doll of her. Please help me find this book! My moms mom is soon to pass away and my mom needs something to make her happy. Thank you!

I think this one is The

I think this one is The Surprise Doll by Morrell Gipson! Hoping you can find it!

A book maybe written in the 60's or 70's maybe titled Witch???

A man was on a cruise ship which was hit by a comet. He woke up and found himself in a desert and he was able to communicate with a large lion . He was also able to ride this lion

Forgotten title

I started reading this book I don’t know the title I think the word past was apart of the title, it was about a woman that was kidnapped and held captive for years her husband thought she had died in a fire and he had buried her until one day he returns to this area in the forest where he sees this woman I believe her name was Lela or Lena and she’s really dirty she had escaped the abandoned jail she was being held in for years , she was planning on saving a lil boy named Daniel I think that was also being held captive with her, on the front cover of the book it’s a picture of the husband and wife holding hands running

A book maybe 14 years old?

I read this book, devoured it really and lent it to a friend. Never got it back and can't remember the title. A woman inherits something from a family member, there's a villa in *insert European ocean destination here* (maybe Italy), I know there was an air of mystery to it, and there's a big piece of it about undercovering a large amount of forgotten (or stolen) art. Please help!

Book quest

The cover of the book I am looking for is of a girl sitting in a chair crying tears of blood.

helping you

I think it is children of blood and bone (maybe) sorry if it isn't.

Help find this book

When I was a bit younger, maybe around 8-10 years old, I read this book about a girl who owned a horse. It was a sad book since at the end the horse went blind to cancer in his eye. I don’t remember very much about it but I’m really wanting to read it again.

This could be The Blind

This could be The Blind Connemara by C.W. Anderson.

Forgotten Fantasy Book

I remember in middle school I was reading this book about a dragon who taught a teenager/kid magic, they were in a cave and that's all I remember. This was probably between 2004-2007

Was it the Enchanted Forest

Was it the Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C Wrede? Princess Cimorene takes a job working for the dragon Kazul in Kazul's cave, and learns some magic there. The first book in the series is Dealing With Dragons.

ive seen something like that

Weird Book I Was Too Young For

I don't know how my friend got her hands on it, but she lent me a book about a girl who is pretty much forced to live with her grandmother. All I remember was that they would give her enemas all of the time, maybe for religious reasons? She eventually escapes and a big part of the book is about her life after she escapes, and I think she might end up back at the family's house? All I know for sure is that it was creepy and disturbing as a 14-year-old, but now that I'm older I'd like to re-read it to ser if it was actually as bad as I remember.

Could the book possible be...

The description of the enemas makes me think it could possibly be Sybil by Flora Rheta Schreiber.

Looking for a book about a

Looking for a book about a girl who willingly sacrifices herself to an invisible monster who is actually the king/prince of an unseen kingdom in a cave and she loves it there and has a sister who comes to visit her but can't see how beautiful the kingdom is. It's Christian fiction I think.

I think I know this book!

The book you are describing sounds like it could be C.S. Lewis's "Till We Have Faces." It is a retelling of the myth of Cupid and Psyche, but with slight differences as he struggled with the main character's seemingly-illogical choices in the original. In this version, the Psyche character has a sister who constantly tries to get her to break the rule her anonymous lover has set that denies her the ability to see what he looks like. Check it out and see if it's the one you're remembering; either way it is a great book!

Searching for a picture book

I am looking for a picture book that I read in 1996 for a school project. It was told in the style of a folktale, maybe American Indian. The premise was that the moon had somehow fallen from the sky and the animals had to put it back. I believe it fell into a lake. The only part I remember was that there was an authoritative bear, and the spider had sewn a web of silk to carry it back up into the sky. It's not much to go on, but I would be especially grateful if someone remembers this one and can tell me what it's called.

Searching for book

I read this book a while ago. I don’t remember much the heroine has an intellectual disability and the hero’s sister who had a disability as well died. The heroine’s brother is forced to take his sister along with him and he goes to a poker match. In the poker match he gets annoyed at the heroine and slaps her in the face. The hero saves the heroine and takes her back to his place. The heroine instantly trusts the hero to look after her. Later in the story we find out that the heroine can communicate with the hero’s dead sister and asks him to catch her a butterfly.

non fiction book

there was a book that I had been read in middle school, around 2015, and i think it had doll house in the title. I believe it was about some kids who went on a school field trip and they had to work on a project as well and they had found a big house in the woods and I cant remember what caused them to end up in the basement, but they ended up there. There was some other kids there when they woke and I believe they were mostly girls and very small child that could draw really well and some creepy dude was involved

maybe...

Could it possibly be "Ms, Perigrine's house of peculiar children"? it isn't exactly what you described but the big house in the woods with the basement and kid who could draw sort of sounds like it?

Can you help me find this book please

My memory is really bad but I mostly remember the plot of this book it was set in the future it's about a dog a street dog to be exact he gets kidnapped by humans and is kept in a lab animal cage he later gets mutated into a eagle dog hybrid and is forced to fight in an animal fight arena he meets other mutant animal friends and two humans and escapes with the help of the humans

I can't find this book I read on 4th grade...

So there's this book my 4th grade teacher read to me about this orphan girl who lived in a foster home with her foster dad and brother, and all they let her eat where leftovers of bread and luckily jerky. Since she was treated badly, she ran away and later made friends with this other girl she found after running away. I think they also make friends with this other boy (who I can't remember the name), but later he was tortured by some of the foster dad's friends. At a certain point the main character had to act as a boy, and helped others escape by infecting the foster dad's friend with chicken pox. Can someone help? I'm writing a story about my 4th grade teacher and will talk about this...

Looking for the name of a children’s book

Hi. I am looking for the title of a children’s book that takes place in the bayou. An alligator wants to live in the trees and not on the ground so the other animals in the forest build him a tree house. It has a heron and I think a beaver is the main one building it for him. The heron lives in the base of the tree and the alligator lives up high in the tree. Totally opposite of where they should be living... that’s all I remember...

I can't find a book, please help

A few years ago I read a book about the story of a woman growing up near Seattle I believe. She had a friend who is a boy and one of them is only around for the summers. I think she lives with her grandfather who is a bit stubborn and they don't have a lot of money. I think she is an artist. Later in life she marries a poor man that she loves but encounters her childhood friend again and there is a love triangle. The woman struggles with her husband for many years and has a son. Throughout the story of the son, she talks about how much he reminds her of both of her two men in different ways. Features she sees in the boy from both men. At one point her husband did a really big carpentry job for some people and they didn't pay him which made them go even farther into debt. Later on, the husband kills himself in hopes his family can have a better life. He died at sea while working on a fishing boat.

I read this book!

I believe this book is Gemini by Carol Cassella.

Children's Cut out book

Ok I remember reading this book as a child, I distinctly remember the book having cutouts within the pages, like peepholes, that would reveal larger picture on the following page. Each page was unique. The story was about a little girl in school (orphange)? who nobody liked so she acted out. Even the principal didn't like her. I know at the end of the book, the little girl writes a small note and places in the hole of a tree. The principal, watching her do this, says something like "at last her found a reason to punish her, because communicating with the outside world was forbidden." The principal gets the note from the tree and it says, "to whoever reads this, I Love You." I'm trying to find this for a students of mine that is going through a rough time, so any help would be appreciated. I believe the book is more tall and thin and rectangular.

Book I read in middle school

Looking for this book I read like 15 years ago from my middle school. Had a hardcover with a black coloring at least two boys. The plot was about some school boys with this bicycle. On the back was an excerpt about how one "Dropped the key". It was mystery I believe.

Looking for YA (or younger) book - Confession Session!

I've been looking for a book that I believe is part of a series from the late 90's for years now and have had no luck with search terms. The main character is a girl either in middle school or high school. I was in 4th grade when I read it so she seemed really mature, but I was younger so my sense of their age was warped. The main things I remember are that the girl is kind of aloof from the kids in her school, she doesn't quite fit in with a friend group or might be new to the school. But she still seems really cool. In this particular book she is going to be going on a school trip to Chicago and she finds some email or chat between an unknown classmate and someone saying that they are gonna meet up in Chicago while they're all on this trip. The main girl is worried that this unknown classmate is going to be meeting up with a stranger they met online. Then it's a mystery the protagonist is solving to find out who it is and try to help them be safe about the meetup. It somehow involves an art museum in Chicago at some point, Also, the part I REALLY remember is that every once in a while there's a breakout section labeled "Confession Session" where various characters give their thoughts on stuff. I feel like there are drawings of the characters' faces too in this part so you can really imagine what they look like. There is definitely a drawing version of the main girl on the cover and I think I remember it being purple. Definitely paperback. I think it's scholastic. Please help if any of this rings a bell.

UPDATE: I found it and I cannot believe it!

I found it! It's the Rockett's World series by Lauren Day...well there's maybe 5-10 years of obsessing over this all done now lol

YAYYY

I'm glad u found it and sorry nobody else thought of it.

Forgotten story

Hi everyone, I'm trying to remember a story I read about a King who seduces a young gardener boy, and the boy falls in love with him. Later though, when the boy sees the King flirting with someone else he throws himself off a boat. And the King felt terrible so he had all these statues made of the boy who was very beautiful, and today there are a lot of the statues still around Europe. Anyone know the name of the story, or the king or the boy? I think the boy's name starts with a T, but it's quite unusual. Thanks in advance!

King

This sounds like the true story of the Roman Emperor Hadrian - the boat and the statues etc. His lover was Antinous though. There are several books about him, the most famous being by Marguerite Yourcinar.

Cannot remember this YA book at all

Its been a long time since I read this book but I think it had some similarities with the Harry Potter series. It revolves around a male protagonists whose country I think bans all gnomes and magic. The other countries think that its not right and are protesting. And i think the main character befriends a gnome. I think the cover of the book has a guy holding onto a key? There is a girl who i think is someone leaving in their house who marries a guy who can do magic and tries to leave the country? I am sorry I don't really remember the details of the book.

Book about person in and out of dreams

I used to own a book where (I think) the protagonist met a girl in an art gallery, and they were getting to know each other when he wakes in an asylum as a different person, thinking the girl was part of a dream. He is released and somehow finds the girl again, but then wakes back in his original life, he's convinced both lives are real, but feels like he's going mad as he gets popped from one to the other. Turns out the girl's father is evil, and has some strange control over dreams and is using that to prevent him from seeing his daughter, they both fight back in their dreams (the girl has the same power), and managed to escape the dad's control?

Trying to Find a Book

I've been trying to remember the title of a certain book for a while now. I've tried Goodreads and google but just can't seem to find it. I can't remember any character's names but I have a really good memory of the plotline. It's about a teenage girl who used to be best friends with her next-door neighbor. But he was kidnapped by his father about 10 years earlier. SO the story starts out with him returning and them getting reacquainted. Now, of course, like every other teen rom-com, they fall in love. Now that's basically the main plot but I can remember other bits and pieces like how she loves to surf but her parents think it's dangerous.

Love this one!

Emmy and Oliver, by Robin Benway. Fantastic book!

Please help!

I remembered a book I read when I was little. Probably around 7-12 years ago. It had a light yellow cover and I believe there was a hot air balloon on the cover with little animals or bears sitting in it. It was a collection of short stories but I can’t remember the name or author or even what some of the stories were about. Please help I’ve tried googling it, looking at Barnes and noble, and looking on goodreads. Thank you!

short story

There's a story about a man who married a very beautiful girl from the highlands or islands in the mid 20th century, she has red hair, unsurprisingly, but it's not a happy marriage, she doesn't cook, she doesn't clean, she's not interested in being intimate or try for a child, (expected in that era) because she's too busy writing letters to her family at home, she spends more time with them than her husband, dispite them living far away, i can't remember the name of the tale, or the book it was in, hope you can find.

Mystery book

I'm trying to find a mystery book I read many years ago about a girl hired to read to a girl from her school that has just accidentally fallen from a cliff and is now mute and in a wheelchair. As the girl is reading a particular story, she notices the young lady in the wheelchair starts to lift/tap her finger in certain parts of the story. At first the reader thinks she's seeing things but soon realises that the girl in the wheelchair is using parts of the story to tap tap her finger to help explain what happened to her. The reader soon realises that the cliff incident was no accident and sets out to find out what really happened that night. If anyone could please help, that would be great. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Mid 1970s Scholastic Books

Hello, the first one was about a carpentry contest, students building Buffalo Bill, and the second one was a group of grade school detectives in Florida looking for a crook they noticed in the Post Office. Also, something about them flying a biplane? He was going to poison the town water supply. I've tried keyword searches for years with no luck. Any ideas? Much appreciated helping us scratch this itch after 40 years! :)

Story/novella about earthquakes and alternate timelines

In the late 80's early 90's I read a collection of (I want to say 4?) stories/novellas that I'm nearly certain included Asimov's "The Ugly Little Boy". (It was in the "A"s of our town library's fiction section.) Also in the collection was a story about a small team of (scientists? archeologists?) who were working at a site in the South/Midwest when an earthquake hits. Soon after they cross a fault line they notice things have changed. They're in an alternate timeline. There are more quakes, and each time they cross a fault line they find themselves in a different alternate timeline. Europeans didn't take over the continent, the South won the Civil War, dinosaurs didn't die off, Imperial Russia still owns Alaska and has taken over much of the West Coast, etc. Been trying to find this story again for over 20 years, with no luck. Any help appreciated!

Help me please

I read this book in junior high school so around 2002-2003 it's a book about a girl who is living in the middle east and knows she's going to be married off as soon as she gets her period, her and her mom hide her period from her dad so he won't send her off. I know there was a second book made to continue her journey after she gets married but i can't remember the title for the life of me. I appreciate any help.

Stephen King/Dean Koontz-esque Book

Book was about a very intelligent young boy who gets selected to study at a private academy away from home. He makes a friend in a girl who I think does experiments in cats to improve/transfer their intelligence? She ends up really twisted and merged with a super computer as the boy decides he can’t handle the school. It ends with the computer reaching out to him as his once friend who has left her body. I think. Ugh- please, help!

This sounds like Catherine

This sounds like Catherine House, except the main character is a girl. Worth a try!

Thank you, unfortunately this

Thank you, unfortunately this is not the book. The one I read was back in 1998/1999. Thanks again!

Looking for book.

Many years ago, in March of 2006-08, my now ex-gf and I went to a convention in Birmingham Al, where we met Peter Mayhew(in case someone remembers the event and can help me track down this book from this forgotten author name) and an female author. She wrote a book about angels that are assigned to be guardians to specific assigned humans and there was these creatures(demons maybe?), that the angels would fight against to protect said humans. And at the end there was a betrayal by one of the angels and the final big fight was in heaven or a heaven like place. That’s all I remember. I can’t remember any names or such. Any help would be great! It’s not a romance book, it’s a fictional book about the battle of good versus evil involving guardian angels.

Book about southern border crossing

I read this book within the last five years. I believe it was written by a popular female. It is separate stories written as one about three people trying to cross the southern border. One was a little girl. Most of the coyotes gave her helpful hints. I think the others were a teenage boy and a twenty something female, but I'm not sure if I remember correctly.

a book featured in Readers Digest in the 1980's

It is about a boy with a very high IQ and set in a spy environment. His mother was a spy or something and she had left him in the care of some dangerous men who were sharpshooters etc. Dangerous people are looking for his mother and not sure if at some point he was caught and brought into the presence of one of these men. There is a point in the book where the boy holds up his fingers in a V formation and one of his bodyguards from a higher vantage point shoots and kills the person who is with the boy. I want to remember something about the title being 'Yellow Eyes' but I cannot find anything on it that is similar.

Book Series?

series of books 3 with a girl short blonde hair teenage has powers that the government wants to catch her for and she ran away and found a guy around her age with brown hair I am pretty sure he betrays her and she returns to her home it's destroyed and there are white roses. She is captured by government and wakes up in white room that is where second bookends. The books have colored crack glass with the faces hidden behind it. One is the girl with blue glass and the other is the brown-haired male and blonde female behind the red glass.

hope this helps!!

okay so this literally sounds like a mix between three distopian novels I have read... so maybe it's one of these? The part where she returns home and its destroyed and there are white roses sounds like the hunger games book two "Catching Fire" by Suzanne Collins. The colored cracked glass sounds like the series by ally condie- "Matched", "crossed", and "reached" The part about her having powers that the government wants to catch her for and finding a guy sort of sounds like the series by Veronica roth- "divergent" "allegiant" and "insurgent"? also it kind of sounds like the books "legend", "prodigy" and "champion" by marie lu. sorry I don't know if this will be helpful, but I am crossing my fingers that maybe one of them is the book you are looking for!

Teen girl runs away and meets traveling country singer

I have no idea when it was written or by whom. A young teen girl is forced to runaway from home when her alcoholic mom's boyfriend kicks her out (he may have also hit her, but I could be confusing this story with another). She calls her mom after missing for weeks and the mom couldn't care less about where the daughter has been, instead she excitedly tells the daughter that she is going to get married to the jerk boyfriend. The teen girl somehow meets a young country singer who travels with his guitar. he is a companion at first, but maybe she develops feelings for him? I'm not sure, I was never able to finish the book.

I forget the name of the book.

The title name is the character name of a women. To whom the writer will feel crush. And lattter he will meet his school friend with whom he will move in and later they will live together. The girls both knows each other and plays tennis.

Looking for children's picture book

Im looking for an older children's picture book. Could be from the 80s or 90s. It's a book with a gold spine about an old man harvesting his vegitables for a dinner he has planned at the end of the book with a friend. I specifically remember a surreal looking moon in it.

corporate scientist overlord dominates daughter, Miranda

In what I believe is the author's first novel, I recall references to Prospero and Miranda (the scientist's daughter). I remember a dystopian future where this corporate scientist has become the overlord and seeks to perfect his daughter with occasional drastic surgical operations. The narrator is allowed into the dark and mysterious huge residence in what may be New York, NY. Much of the communication is done through an intercom system in the cavernous residence.

Plz help me find this book

I read this book a couple of years ago and cant for the life of me remember the name of it. It's about these two kids who find out that everybody in the world are robots except kids that are 12? 13? and under i think it was a series. There's this part in it where theyre outside and its winter and for some reason go to this house. I think their parents were divorced and it mightve been one of their parent's houses. But when they get there they hide behind this bush or something and spy on their stepsiblings? Its the part in the book where they find out about the robot thing because the stepbrother starts like twitching and then his sister and mom come and like take out a panel in his back or something and reset him

Help! It’s been years!

YA fiction with a young girl protagonist. In her world people can create portals to travel between worlds or dimensions I’m not 100% sure. At some point in the store she is running from someone and her father finds her in a random world and creates a sand man to protect her with the last of his magic. I know this ends with some sort of battle.

YA sci-fi fiction, read in early 1990s

Here's a book I read in the YA section of my public library in the early 1990s: Scifi/futuristic city with domes (I think), people had long identifier name/numbers; the protagonist's included the characters AMITY so she was called Amy for short. There were privacy booths for courting couples but she went in one with a higher-status young man so that she could share information about the other world she had found a tunnel? door? to outside where there were fairy-like aliens. It is NOT This Time of Darkness by Helen Mary Hoover, which has an Amy protagonist.

Anti-constitution conspiracy

I loaned out a book to someone who denies I loaned it to him. It was a supposedly true documentary-style non-fiction about a group of men in Federal government who laid out a plan to slowly erode our constitution over several decades. According to the book, that plan has been passed down through the generations and is still in play. There were several pages of references at the end, which I looked up and those references do exist, many written by noted scholars at reputable universities and other institutions. I read it out of curiosity and with an attitude of amusement. But the more I read, the more it actually seemed that the results of those plans seem to be actually occurring. It was written probably within the past 10 years or so. If the book is true, it is very scary, especially when viewed from retrospect. I'm 71 years old and can see where the plans laid out in the book MAY actually be taking place. I am skeptical as to it's verasity, but at the same time I can see where it just could be possibly true. Has anyone ever seen or heard of this book, or one like it. According to the book, the plan, as I recall, began possibly in the late 1700s to early 1800s.

Kids book about manners

This may be a stretch... I dont remember much about the book since it was from my childhood. All I can remember is 2 boys, maybe brothers, sitting at the dinner table opposite from each other. One is polite, the other is rude. They each have a little man in their mouths that live off of them saying please. I know I sound crazy. Anyways the little men end up switching places because one is tired of saying please and the other one is starving or something along those lines. I hope someone can help. Its driving me crazy!

I read a fiction book which I

I read a fiction book which I guess was a romance? I read it maybe 5 years ago and it’s set in a small town in winter and it’s about a woman (i think her name is chloe but I could be wrong!) and she finds out the guy she hated as a kid is back in town and doing really well for himself. One part of the book I remember well is that she takes her niece or friends daughter to go and see Santa (I think out by a wooded area in a cabin) and she’s in line waiting to take the small girl to see Santa when he arrives there with a child too behind them in the line (turns out it isn’t his child). She eventually gives him a chance and they fall in love. Corny I know but I would love it if I could find this book I loved it, and so desperately want to read it again. Thank you!

Help me. I’m going insane

Hi. I read a book back in elementary school, and I cannot for the life of me remember what it is called. If I remember correctly it’s about a young Hispanic girl and her younger brother, and they go to live with their grandmother. I believe that she learns how to make some type of dish, especially with lemons, because I am pretty sure the cover of the book is of her, the young girl, she has long brown hair and it’s flowing behind her, she has a barrette in her hair, and she is wearing a light colored shirt, I believe yellow, with shorts and sneakers or maybe sandals, and she is sitting on the grass underneath a lemon tree I believe. It is a chapter book, not a picture or children’s book. If someone could respond, it would be greatly appreciated. Stay safe and healthy during these times and thank you!

I think I found it

I believe that book is called Esperanza rising by Pam Munoz Ryan

can’t remember this book’s title or author

I read this book about 8 years ago. I’m pretty sure the main character’s name is Thumbelina and that she used to live in a house but then moved away because of a tragic accident. Her best friend is a boy (I forgot his name) and he has a camera and loves taking photos of her. She’s really shy. I’m pretty sure there’s also mention of a girl named Anais (or Anaise?) and there’s the phrase “Anaise, Anaise, your name is like a flock of geese.” That was a poem or song that a boy in the book had written for that girl named Anaise and he read it out loud at one point. Please help me find this book!

Thumbillena

Thumbelina was a folk/fairy tale I doesn't match the description though(shes like really small but had a big heart...)

I found your book!

Long story short- I was checking to see if anyone had figured out my inquiry and yours stuck out. The Boy on Cinnamon Street. Take care!

can’t figure out the title of this book

I read this book probably 8 years ago. I’m pretty sure it’s about a girl named California, and each letter of her name stands for a different name, but everyone calls her Cal for short. She gets sent to this house for girls that is so orange colored that she calls it a pumpkin house. (She was sent here because her mother has what she calls “episodes.”) Throughout the story, the woman who watches over the other girls in the house tells them the story of this other girl who I’m pretty sure lived in a circus or carnival or something and she was really good at using a typewriter. Her act was called something like “[Insert Name]’s Dexterous Digits” I think. I can’t remember what this book is called or who it’s by. Please help!

There is this book series I

There is this book series I read where a girl and her sister and dad go into like protection with the fbi from the girl teacher and when they are driving to a new place to live the teacher kills them and then she goes to a place where she doesn’t know they are dead and she meets these people who help people figure out where they go after they die.

PLEASE HELP ME FIND MY FAVORITE BOOK

so a couple years back I found a book for sale in a book store and I took it home. I loved it so much I read it like 100 times. Well it was a book written in the perspective of the owner and he talks about his dog and stuff but there is one thing I remember: the book had like a plastic/Matt feeling and it was tan, the pages were rigged on the side and there was a part in the book where on of the puppies in the story sadly got killed my a grandfather who loved the puppy very much( he was slammed inbetween the car door on accident) that’s all I can pretty much remember. PLEASE HELP I CANT REMEMBER THE BOOK

Book I read a while back

It was a book I read a couple years back, so the details are gonna be pretty iffy. Nevertheless, I remember the book being something about a kid being at a museum or something of the sort (school trip maybe?). He's he finds some sort of phone booth, and when he put the phone to his ear, he heard a voice and fell into a deep sleep in which he dreamed about a village or small establishment which I believe was French or Italian. I don't remember the rest, but I do recall him waking up in the same both at night.

Hi I have been looking for

Hi I have been looking for this book. Its about this young girl who just moved into a new house and she discovers that a boy lived in the house before she did and he died and he can't leave her room. She goes see's his brother about it. I think the ghosts name is Joe or the brothers name is Joe. The front cover has a girl looking down with mascara on her eyes. And the bottom picture has a ghost walking to the beach.

a very short story i read a couple years ago

Hi, I've been looking for this short story for a couple of years, I read it maybe 2014-16. I don't remember much except that the plot was about a girl who falls in love with a rich boy who invites her to live with him. But when she gets there his sister thinks she's a servant. and I think she might make her carry a pot on her head? anyway, eventually the boy realises that his sister is using the girl he loves as a servant so he tells her and she lets her go and apparently the girl doesn't care that she was being treated as a servant so they all end up friends. That's all I remember, but I know it was a very short story (like a maybe two pages) and I think it is used to teach a moral. If anyone knows what it is it would be a big help!

Crime Novel

hello, I unfortunately don't have much of a description, but I'm trying to help my boyfriend find a book he read a few years ago. He recalls that the book was black and green on the front. It's about a woman who accused someone of beating her and was being followed/ investigated by a male police officer. He followed her via a cave and found her at a woman's shelter because he believed that she was lying and was trying to see what she was really up to. He was also listening to her conversations to see if she was lying about getting beat up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

YA book I have forgotten name of

I am trying to figure out the name of a YA book I read in the late 1980’s or early 1990’s. All I can remember is a boy struggling with suicide and he ends up going through with it. If I remember correctly, he jumped off a cliff. I believe someone witnessed it - either a sibling or a friend. Any help greatly appreciated!

cant find this book online anywhere and I dont know the name

So its a young adult novel, readin level probably 6-7th grade. This young woman with red hair, and her father who is an egytpian archeologist, find a very preserved mummy. They transport it to England and it comes to life while the girl is home alone. The mummy is a young prince who was made a sacrifice in order to appease the gods (I think, this part of my memory may be incorrect). All I know is that now that the mummy has been brought back, bad things start happening. The mummy and the girl have to team up to stop all the shenanigans.

ya novel-gold rush era

the book is about this English girl who is poor, works as a nanny, and falls in love with the older son of her client. He leaves for California in order to make money so that he could marry her. When he does not make any effort to contact the family after a year, she goes to search for him. When she gets to California, she undertakes the task of finding him while working at a hotel. On the boat ride over, she meets a doctor who is very solemn, but ends up becoming a good friend (and maybe more than that dare I say it). She eventually finds her fiance, but he has accidently gotten someone pregnant, and had not found any gold. This woman gives her the sob story, and begs her to leave. She also conceals the fact that the protagonist came to find him because she is afraid that he will run away with his original fiance and leave her with a child. When the fiance learns of this concealment, he drunkenly gets on a horse, and ends up splitting his head on the road after being thrown from his horse and dies. The girl is very sad, but because she is honest and caring, she takes in the woman with the child. The woman that got pregnant ends up dying from depression soon after the child is born. The father of the fiance shows up from England after learning of his sons death. He ends up proposing to the protagonist (because his wife and children have all died from some disease in England). She declines. HOWEVER, the Doctor, whom our protagonist has by now fallen in love with, heard this conversation, left before he heard her decision, storms away on a horse, gets thrown, hits his head, and almost dies. He ends up living, but only after a heart to heart with the protagonist while he is presumedly on his death bed. Happy endings all around I guess.

Romance is usually a dime a dozen

I read this book a couple of years back but adding onto our family I haven’t thought about it until this morning. Anyway the book is about two friends from Boston. The woman is a lawyer and the guy a cop. They end up going to Vegas and getting married when celebrating with her brother and sister in law about something. They come home and stay married because both of their families find out and stayed married. She finds out that he’s always loved her and finally decides to give it a chance. They fight when she’s unknowingly pregnant.

Can find this book

I'm looking for a teen romance novel but all I can remember is that the cover had koi fish on it! I read it years ago and I wanted to read it again. But I don't seem to remember any of the details.

Koi romance book

Hi I think the book you might be looking for is Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland

Can't remember the title

I don't think this book is that old, here's what I remember: Two detectives get called to the scene of a family murdered in a sub division in England somewhere. The subdivision was supposed to be wonderful, but wasn't. The dad of the family was obsessed thinking there was an animal in the attic. The mom couldn't take the dad being crazy, living in a defunct neighborhood, so kills the dad and the two kids, she tried to kill herself, but failed.

Mystery

Looking for a book I read in elementary school so early 2000s (2001ish). I don’t have a lot of details but I remember it being a mystery novel and at the end of the novel they never actually concluded what really happened. I thought it was called the west end but I can’t seem to find that title anywhere. The details I remember are very high class citizens that are involved. I believe the event took place at a hotel. Any suggestions at all are appreciated.

The Westing Game

I’m thinking that might be your book. The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin

What is this book called?

I checked this book out from my school library many times in the 90s. It was a young adult fantasy novel. The front cover had an illustration of a girl standing on a bridge and was vibrantly colored. I remember some mention of someone speaking mandarin in this book. That's really all I can remember. Any ideas? (it is not the bridge to terabithia)

Trying to remember the title!

Help! I read a book about a year ago. I honestly can't remember the title or the cover of the book but I know I will recognize it when I hear the title. It is a fiction novel about a women that is diagnosed with MS, her husband leaves her and moves to some commune out in the woods with a bunch of hippies. I believe it was her sister comes to help her and I think her daughter runs away to stay with her dad? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sci-fi novel

I'm trying to remember a book I read as a teenager (35ish years ago) that had a teenage protagonist. Traveling was done by having your memories transplanted into a clone at the destination. I think the teenager's name was Alex. What I can remember is that he went by cloning to visit a family member, possibly an aunt, and there was a mystery that he got caught up in because his aunt was not herself. I want to say that someone was taking control of the clones on the planet he was visiting.

Fantasy Teen Book

Im trying to find this book. I remember the main protagonist was a teen girl and she was the daughter of some dude who either was the mayor or wanted to become the mayor. She always got hurt and was extremely "clumsy" which is why she is bullied by her classmates. Then something happens and she is discovered by this organization because she is special. They found her because of the oracle who is also a teen boy and her future soulmate or smith like that. She needs to save the world I believe.

Haunted Book Mobile

I have been searching for years a book I read in elementary school about a haunted book mobile. The main character moves/visits a new town and discovers a bookmobile. She befriends the patrons of the bookmobile only to find out the run a haunted loop where it ends with the bookmobile crashing. I have google searched the heck out of it and still can't find the book.

I need help finding this book

Is it Level 13 by Gordon Korman(its it the sequel to his book Slacker) It has a beaver eating gummy worms on it and I dont think there is many other books that do. I haven't read it but I skimmed over the blurb and it talked about a kid who liked streaming video games.

Looking for book

I am looking for a book from the 80’s. The cover had a guy and a cat in a canoe going through a sunken city. All i can remember of the plot. There was a village attcked by monsters from the sea. I think book was set in the future but with magic. The monsters i think were using a submarine

Missing book

This book was a teen romance paranormal book. I remember the main girl was bullied for being really clumsy. She was the daughter of the mayor to be or smth. And then she somehow has powers or smth. And gets rescued by this group in which there is a oracle who is her age and her fiancée. She must save the world now.

Single mom (lawyer?) Snarky series

I am looking for a series about a single mom, lawyer I think. Her ex-husband is a DA (maybe) and drives some snazzy car. They have a teenage son, and the location is northeast maybe Boston. The writing is David Rosenfelt style, great snarky-ness. There is a boyfriend too, but I dont remember much other than he picks up pizza alot.

ghost stories

I remember a book of ghost stories I had as a child. It included stories about two children who vanished with a stranger over a hill, a boy who disappeared into the night as he was walking to the well, and a story about travelers who stayed with n elderly couple for night, went to town next day to be told house was burned down years ago, when they returned they found money they left on table in burned out foundation.

Please help me find a book

My husband inadvertently gave away a book and now regrets it. I would like to buy a copy for him but I don't know the title or author. The book cites endings in classic works of literature and I believe "ends' or 'ending's is in the title. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you.

Lost book

About a year ago, 2019, I read a young adult romance novel centered around a girl about to graduate high school. She works part time at a animal shelter. Then a boy who is always getting in trouble is sent to the animal shelter to work and the two fall in love

Lost Book

I found this graphic novel a few years ago at my library. All I remember about it is that it takes place in Oregon or somewhere up north, the season is either summer or spring, and there are middle school students and one of them falls of a bridge and he goes into this other dimension, and the others find them. That's all I remember. Sorry it's a pretty bad description. Thanks!

was it a manga?

was it a manga?

I loved this book

I read this book maybe 4 months ago. It’s about this girl and her sister has a baby. Her sister plans on running away and she convinces her sister to let her go with. Basically they drive far away and stay at hotels. I don’t remember the rest.

Old Childhood Book

This book was in Spanish. I remember it was really big, about 401 pages, maybe more. It had many short stories, most of them less that a page. It was old and falling apart, so my parents threw it out. I wanted to have a new one, so I could remember it. This one may be a tricky one!

Nonfiction book can’t remember the title

I believe it was a non-fiction book based on a woman who would dream nightly of a home. While out with her husband she had a strange feeling to drive down a certain road and then she saw the home from her dreams. Fast forward to the moved in with their kids and then strange things began to happen. They would have scissors disappear, hear strange noises, see things. They had a psychic come in and learned the history of the home, the names of their ghosts and had over 20 they could detect.

book title

I'm looking for a book about a teenage girl possibly named Gina/Gia. She has fighting skills although she is not quite sure where she gets them from. She has an old man she plays chess with in the parkregulalry and is kind of on the run or suspects people are coming after her because of her dad. A very distinct thing about her is that she gets into these intense fights and then passes out after like her body shuts down or something. read this book over 15 years ago in our town library.

Only a scene

I only remember a scene from the book and I’m not even sure how accurate it is. I read it only a couple of years ago. There are, I believe, two men being questioned by an officer/police/guard about why a third man is beaten. They describe how the man tried to touch one of them and he decided to punch the man in retaliation. They also say that the man tried to feel one of them up because he was dressed as a woman at the time (I don’t know if it was a disguise or not?). They are apologetic for having hit a man, but when they explain how he tried to grope one of them, the officer asks why they only hit the man once.

Please help me find this book!

I read this book in middle school and I believe is was a book about a girl who decided to venture to the new world but alone. She went aboard a ship (I think as a stowaway) and had to navigate america by herself. I might be mistaken but I think it was either a series (with different girls as the main character) or it had a prequel!

A book about a cat

I barely remember this book I read in elementary school. It was about a cat who lived nicely in a house and I think his owners got another cat and he didn’t like the other cat so much. Then for some reason they got outside and met a gang of strays in a garage. I think the book ended with them going back home and liking each other. I’m not sure if it was a series or just the one book. Please help if possible. It’s bothering me at the back of my mind.

Story about a man a wolf and a broken stick

This is a simple story about a man in a cold climate who is alone. However town is a few days away by foot. A wolf starts to harass him and he can only keep it at bay by a stick he picks up. IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS BOOK FOR A YEAR

It’s a YA novel in verse (a bunch of poems) about two teenagers in a toxic relationship The boy is abusive and cheats and the girl I believe is sexually assaulted at one point the cover resembles a composition notebook and the title is in pink

Book about a Haunted Theater

I am trying to remember the title of a book I read several years ago. All I can remember is that it centered around a renowned dancer or ballerina. I think she was murdered at the beginning, or otherwise seriously injured. The book opens with her alone in the theater practicing. Someone comes up behind her and her feet get smashed in an elevator? I can’t remember if they find her dead and her feet are ruined, or if she is alive but can never dance again. It was a mystery centered around a run down theater where bad things kept happening. People thought it was haunted (no, not the Phantom of the Opera) and someone else would get murdered next. Any help would be appreciated!

A 1976 Scholastic Book on the Revolutionary War

Around 1976 when I was in 6th grade I remember ordering a book from the Scholastic Book catalog. The story was set during the American Revolution. The cover might have had a young redcoat on it, and in the background something was on fire. The story involved Whigs and Tories. Any idea of the title of this book?

Bored wife, cold war setting

I read this novel in the late 1970s, I think by a British author: the wife of a man (probably a diplomat) posted to Russia or Eastern Europe is bored and becomes addicted to shopping the black market without realizing how much trouble she will get them into. I'd love to read it again!

A YA Book similar to the lux series by Jenifer L. Armentrout

It is a book involving supernatural beings of some sort. The girl enjoys video games and bonds with her love interests brother. He later attacks her in order to get his brother to listen to him.

A Book from Fifth Grade

I read this book in fifth grade back in 2011 I believe about a girl who was but by a fox. The book had a purple cover and was titled something like "The Secret life of-" I know that it also had a horse farm referenced multiple times but I cant for the life of me remember the title. Please if you have any clue let me know.

Dystopian YA

My memories of this book are so bizarre and fragmented (yet specific) I wanted to try it here. Begins with a head boy at an elite boarding school at graduation when grades are posted. His name is not listed, and it’s revealed that this is because he got a perfect score on the final exam, which basically places him above/outside this dystopian society in which slightly less accomplished people live coddled lives and the least accomplished are miserable. He escapes, though I cannot recall why. Somehow there is also an extended sequence where he befriends a girl attempting to join the prostitute guild and fakes a hundred photos of them having sex in her room (which I believe had a large fishtank in it). Dystopian, obviously, and either YA or genre sci-fi, I would have read it in the very very early 90s.

Please help me find this kids book!!

So there's this picture book that used to be on tumblebooks that I liked when I was little but I can't find it anymore! :( It's about this boy who goes to summer camp and his friends pranked him by giving him a broken compass so he like got lost in the woods or something? Then to get back at them he used a magnet to move some curtains and a spoon to freak them out. Then on the last page it shows him walking out of camp with a sign on his back that says "kick me." If this sounds familiar to anyone could you please let me know? Thanks! this has been driving me crazy foreverrrr

Please Help me find this book

Its a horror fictional book about these kids at this orphanage that get fostered/adopted by this creepy woman who starts to do strange/odd stuff. the kids try to escape from her. the book cover is a night scene with a little bit of purple I’m pretty sure.

Fantasy YA book

I read this book in 2009/2010. I can’t remember the title or author. Pretty sure in the plot a girl is caught for doing something illegal and is taken captive by a knight and transported to another city. Or it might have been that the girl captured the knight for some reason. It was a really funny book and the two characters eventually fall in love. It was not based in our world but was fantasy/medieval might have had magic or healers or far or something.

I need help!!!

So this book is about a girl where her parents are divorced and she's living with her mom. Her mom tends to just pick up and leave for a few days at a time, but this time she has gone for a while. She moved in with her grandma but her grandma called her father and said I'm no longer going to house her you have too. Her father is a bounty hunter and they're traveling all over the place and they finally caught this boy his name is Ian, and they're on this like off-root campsite. She seeks out in the middle of the night to the see him and then he pulls a gun to her head and demands his release for her safety, and that's what I remember.

A kids book I loved.

There was this book I read as a kid so that was probably so were between 2012-2014. It was about this little girl who lived with her mom, and her mom was really overweight and all she did was watch reality tv and eat junk, I don’t remember if the dad was there. But the mom made the girl do all the house work. Then one day she leaves and meets something, I’m pretty sure it’d a bird and goes into the city to explore. And that’s all I remember.

Looking for a picture book

The dad had a bad morning, which set in motion a bad day for the whole family. By the time he comes back in the evening, his day improved, but theirs hadn’t. All’s well that ends well, but it’s a cautionary tale that demonstrates how easily our bad moods can carelessly change others’ days.

Looking for an anthology of myths

My mother got me (via Goodwill or some other used goods store) a paperback book of mythology back in the 1970s. I don't know when the book was published, but I remember that the cover was purple and it was organized by the type of myth (creation of earth, deluge, nature of gods, etc.), so that the reader can see the similarities and nuances of the tales. There were Greek, Roman and Egyptian tales, but it also including tales from various Native American and African tribes and even Biblical passages. I've wracked my brain for years trying to remember the title - the book begat a lifelong interest in folklore and mythology for me. Thank you!

Looking for novel from 80s through 90s

Trying to come up with name of a book that I believe was from 80s or 90s. It was a spy or assassin type novel about a woman who was blind and was in Venice and met a man who was planning to set off a bomb. She went to either Lourdes or Fatima and regained sight. I think I remember she went to Harry's Bar in Venice and St Mark's Square. Appreciate any help!

Looking for title to a book

When I was in high school in 1983 I read a book that had to have been published before then. It was a love story. It started out with a girl abandoning a baby on church steps then this family arrives and finds her this family works for a wealthy family taking care of their home cooking cleaning so on. They keep the baby and claim her as their family knowing she will be raised in a nice safe invirament. She grows up alongside the wealthy family and their kids. When she gets older the wealth son takes to liking her and they eventually get married and she becomes pregnant. I also remember her going to the little market and getting persimmons to eat I believe. At the end they find out they are really brother and sister, from the same father. His mistress had left their baby to be raised by someone else when he refused to help her. I can't remember how it ends after she finds out the relationship. I let a friend borrow my book and then we weren't friends and I never got my book back. I have searched for this book ever since. I feel the cover had a light peachy color maybe referring to the persimmons not sure.

Looking for a book I read 15 years ago in school.

Hello! In grade 8 I read a war book about a young boy(I think he was suppose to be between 14-16). I can’t remember if it was WWI or WWII (I think it was WWII). The main thing I remember is that this boy made friends with an older soldier who had bandages on his face. I think he was a pilot? The main plot twist comes when the man with bandages on his face is framed and they think he was working or the enemy. Turns out he was a good guy. I remember this book being amazing and I would love to read it again!

Murder mystery

The book was about an individual that was going around leaving little boxes like bug boxes that had a powder. Once the receiver opened it the would die with in 24 hours. I remember something about a child a doll house and rotting fruit. Kinda like a pandoras box? Thanks for the help. Maybe late 90s?

Help me!!!

I have been obsessed with finding a book from my childhood but haven’t had any luck. It is a children’s book about these monsters/goblin creatures (maybe) that love pasta or noodles or spaghetti and i vaguely remember it having a cauldron and perhaps deep purple pages

Nonfiction book and the author was on Oprah

I'm trying to find the name of the book. It's the story of a princess whose family was very rich and I think her father tried to assassinate someone and she and her brother were captured and tortured. She describes the torture they went through and it was a miracle they survived. I think she might be Iranian, but I really don't know. She wan Oprah talking about the book. This was many years ago (15 or 20???)

There is a book and all I

There is a book and all I know is that there is a character with the name Neli and that at the end of a chapter there is a little drawing of a bench before u turn the page. It is 300+ pages.

Forgotten Title

There was a fantasy novel I read back in the mid 2000s-early 10s about a girl who lived in a town/village who despised her, but she's found by this traveler who suspects she belongs to a long line of magic users. He offers her a better place to be than her village, and she decides to go with him. They travel across a variety of landscapes from mountains to an imposing forest. There was a moment I remember where they stop and sleep within a ring of magical trees to protect them from whatever evil lurked outside of them. They eventually make it to a walled in city where the traveler had friends who could help her learn more about magic and take care of her. There was a young man who's a scholar of magic and is assigned to be her tutor, and he eventually admits his feelings for her. Unfortunately for him, the evil rising in the land finds her and kills him, and the city comes under attack. She and the traveler have to flee the city, and the end sets it up for the next book in the series.

Need help finding a book

I read this book in 6th grade. It was about a girl who loves dancing and dreams of going to newyork to dance. But she's to poor to pay for dance classes. There's a protagonist how is a girl her age. Can afford classes and fancy shoes. She teases and bullies the girl for it. The girl has white hightops that are "two sizes too big" they turn red because of the dirt. Bur at the end of the book they fit. She gets to newyork. She doesn't make it into the dance studio that she wanted like the prissy girl did but one of the judges liked the passion in her danceing so he recommends her to a different dance company.. she gets into that one.. and She meet a friend.. I remember that the friend had brown hair and that the main corrector forgot to meet before classmates as they had planed and make the friend almost late. She ends up being mad for the rest of the day. The main corrected can remember why she beould be mad. So after-school the friend storms off and she follows and then she pushed her and then they make up and she goes to jet friend apartment. For Thanksgiving. Oh and her mom was a painter. The grandma passed away I think and that al.ost mad the girl quit dancing. Before she left to New yourk her mom gave her a dime or nick or quoter. Something like that saying that she had saved it up I think but she did say that it was all she had to giver. The main character tried to be modest and not take but in the end ended up taking it. I think she's spent it on paint and brushes for her mom. When she was in the newyork park thingy she though it wasn't newyork and and ends up meeting the guy she will married at the end the last part of the book is her describing her dance on center stage like she dreamed while carried g his child. The end. please help me. I rarely ever reread book but I've been thinking about this one for so long and need to re read it.

Forgotten title

I read this book where the girl gets drunk with her two friends then wakes up and has to move in with a new family which the guy is part of and the first time in their house she's made to stay(as a joke) in the dark attic where there this magical creature locked in a box that belongs to the oldest son in the family and every she finds out the family has hidden magical powers and so does she and she has magical reaction of sorts with the love interest. Also I think there's a scene in the starting where she gets rejected by the love interest in the parking lot of like a mechanic shop. Anyway so it's like a paranormal or fantasy romance? But I can't for the love of God remember the title or find it.. if anyone could name it that would be great help thank you.

Forgotten Title

This was a large print fantasy book that was read to me when I was in public school in early 1990s. The story involves two races: small, minish size characters and larger giants - the two races don't care about one another. One day, a warlock/phantom/sorcerer/etc. Puts a curse that freezes people in place. To save their village, one tiny minish character (main character) must work with one of the young boy giants and travel to the evil warlock's lair to solve it's riddle and save their families and town. The pictures are large. The story is heavy fantasy. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Help me find this book please

I don't remember the title or the author or the characters' name. I remember that is a M/M Romance and the plot I about an alien king and a human. Human comes to deliver a message during king's dinner with his son (who is together with his partener and their daughter) and his son's guard. The human is granted sanctuary after a call to the person who sent the message ( is the rebellion's leader). There is another scene in a lingerie store. And another one where the human is hurt during a training session. One more thing, all social classes have their own skin colour, like the royal guard is cobalt blue, and the royal family is purple, witch is the only colour that runs in the same family, all others don't.

Help find this book

Hi, It is an adult book but I remember reading it during my teenage years. Definitely some surreal author, it was during winter and a student discovers pair of shoes (on a frozen body) and he realizes that these shoes make his wishes come true. The woman who he meets tells him to destroy them as humans cannot tolerate/handle their wishes come true..and student also ends up dying (as his wish)... something like that. Exastential.
I got recommended this book in school and I can’t remember the title or names of any of the characters. It was about a family of dogs 1 boy 3 girls I think, and a mom. They were raised by a gambler who forced their mother to do races and were treated poorly. The mother decided to sneak them out onto a truck to escape and meet there father. Which backfire, because the first sister jumped off while the rest coward, the second sister was shot by another gambler, and the third died from exhaustion I think, while the last one was found and rescued by a man. He had a wife and a pug at home (all the dogs in this book had a wolf name and there pet name given by there owners for some reason) they had him for probably a good year but he wasn’t trained at all and ran away. He was also brought into a kill shelter at some point where he actually met his father and then later on all the dogs in the shelter were saved by a lady who could speak-dog? She brought them to her farm to live freely most of them excepted it but the dog and his dad continue on there way to a special place where they could hunt an do things like a real wolf-dog. The sister who jumped off was never found and that’s the end. Please help me find it.

San Francisco Guide Book that mentions the Good Vibrations shop

Every snippet of information is help with this hunt for a guide book from around 2009 :-) And with this latest snippet of information, could there really be more than 1 San Francisco guide book that lists the Good Vibrations shop as a place to visit? Hi folks, I’m on what could be an impossible quest (and thats without factoring in my being in the UK) to try and track down a San Francisco travel guide that my partner first saw in 2009 when visiting friends in California They remember it being written and compiled in an unusual and amusing way, that was completely different to most other guide books then and even now (which is the main reason for wanting to track it down) With it seeming to be aimed at someone who had relocated to San Francisco and who then had to deal with a number visits from friends and family. Each chapter covered suggestions for a weekend with a different type of visitor, e.g. a bohemian aunt, trendy friend, art loving mother, sporty brother etc. Do any of these brief, possibly random notes, trigger any ideas as to the existence of such a book, it’s possible title, or it’s current availability or lack thereof due to having gone out of print many years ago? Or do you think we could be looking at a bit of a memory recollection malfunction? :-) ;-) Any and all assistance, advice or pointers with this quest will be greatly appreciated. Kind Regards Wayne
