This is an update of a previous post by Sharon Rickson.

It can be tough to remember the title and author of a book you read a long time ago—even if it was a book that was really important to you. Fiction is cataloged by author and title, not by subject or plot line, which makes identifying books by just their storyline difficult.

Readers often ask librarians for help finding these kinds of books. And we can’t figure out the mystery every single time, but we do have a few tricks to help find the answer.

First, pin down everything you can remember about the book, plot, character names, time period in which the book may have been published, genre, etc. All these details are clues in identifying the title and author of the book.

Online resources can help with your search for a half-remembered book, even if all you have is a basic plot line. Searching yourself is a good place to start; then, you can post to a listserv or discussion forum, where someone might recognize it. Or, last but not least, leave a comment on this post!

Before You Start

Try Google! Type in everything you can remember about the book — as in, “picture book rabbi animals advice yiddish” — and scroll through the results. (That’s a real-life example of a book a patron was asking for: It Could Always Be Worse by Margot Zemach.)

You can also try googling one key detail you remember from a book. One of our librarians solved a book mystery by searching “USS You-Know-Who” — the name of a boat in the story that the patron happened to remember. (Another real-life example: She Flew No Flags by Joan Manley.)

More Suggestions

  • If you can remember just one word, use the search function on Goodreads or Library Thing to find long lists of titles with a particular word.

  • Goodreads’ browse-able lists of titles that readers have shelved in unique categories, such as authors’ professions or decades of publication, is also be helpful.

  • For recently published books, the reviews in Booklist Online are broken down by detailed genre.

I am having trouble

I am having trouble remembering the title of the story book . Although I remember the story : A man lived in a village in an island who had a servicing shop and was a determined gentleman . One day a rich man meets him and impressed by him offers him to marry her daughter . He accepts the offer and when he had to leave his village all the things reminds him of the memories of village and its people .

Science Fiction Trilogy

Okay, that narrows it down to about 20,000. Seems like the author's first name was Michael. In the very first book, a young man and woman watch a meteor flare through the sky. Over the rest of the book, it developes that she becomes very wealthy & powerful and is obsessed with colonizing the Moon and ultimately other planets so that if a meteor / asteroid should destroy Earth, mankind would continue. The second and third books describe the processes used to make this effort become real. The scene I particularly remember was a description of how to weld metals in an airless, zero-grav environment. Titles? Author name?

science fiction? fantasy? post-apocalypse?

I am looking for a book, where due to a sickness/plaque most of the population has died. Especially women. The protagonist thinks she's the only women left on the planet. Together with two men, she qoes on a quest searching for a cure. However, the men both have their own reasons for helping her. I think the book is quite new, form 2016, 2017 or maybe even 2018.

Teen Book.About Pyschic Girl Solves Murder?

I read a book when I was.just entering my teen years, early 2000s, and it was about a psychic teen girl I believe. She had these clairvoyant powers that she didn't seem fond of. I only remember very random things about this book, so bare with me, but I would love to find the title of it so I can read it again! So she has these powers to contact the dead or something and there is a local murder. I remember her sneaking into a house and looking for clues and she gets scared of an evil presence or something?? She is trying to help solve the murder and I think she lives with her dad? Not entirely sure. I also remember her having this hair clip or barrette that she was hesitant about wearing. I cannot remember where she got it. I will try to remember more but this was from so long ago! The memory is so fuzzy

Gaah, I can't remember this book. It's about a girl who finds a blue ghost in the woods, then travels to another world (the land of the dead?) with her hairless cat? Think the main character's name was May. And there was a dead girl searching for her mother.

So it's an audio tape that I haven't seen or heard for 17 years. It's the perspective of a bear in the forest and I believe over the course of hibernation either a forest fire or construction destroyed the forest and he woke up devastated and cried out 'no' in despair. I believe there was dialogue between some animals and I believe it was two sides. Please help.

Bear Novel

The description reminded me of "Shardik" by Richard Adams (author of "Watership Down") https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shardik.

Would love a re-read

A woman drinks herself to sleep every night until she gets abducted from her own apartment. She wakes up in a bare room with nothing but a jug of water and a camera concealed in an overhead light. After x amount of time, another "victim" shows up, a man. The couple slowly start trusting eachother and try to escape the room. Only the "kidnappers" start taking away their senses (their ability to talk one day, the ability to hear the next day, etc) They eventually escape find out that a "company" has taken them in order to give them a new spark for life. (I dont know of this helps, but I believe the author is a woman from Quebec, and the book was translated into english)

Trying to find a children princess type book!

I read this two books when I was younger about a girl that lived in sort of a castle and she had maids and everything, and I think she went to school and was bullied. In the middle of this she starts wondering her position in society because apparently her parents are queen and king of something or they are just really important people, and then she just goes for an adventure and meets elfs and witches and wierd houses in order to understand what she is (I remember one in particular that was described as really small but once you entered it, it was huge), and then something related to fashion happened as well and she tried to save some jimmy choos I think!!! Oh, also, she was in love with some guy, and the first book cover was in pink and the second in lilac, I guess. If you know the name of the book please tell me, I am dying to know!!

All I remember is the cover

All I remember is the cover is of a young teen girl with long lashes and she is pouting her lips which are bright pink. It's a bright cover.

maybe it's "The Secret

maybe it's "The Secret Identity of Devon Delaney"?

If you could help .. please

The story started with a boy who was upset with his life And suddenly one day finds a magical stone (green colour) and its power changed his life. Then the story brought many people who found different pieces of stone and all were struggling. The teenage boy ran in the woods because some people were searching him. I don't remember how but everybody met each other one by one . Then they spent so much Time in woods . One of them had the knowledge of forests and biological things. One girl worked in a salon and was really exhausted with the stone thing. One man was very old . And one more guy there was. But when they all knew what they have to do with the stone, they all essembled their stones. Aim was to save a drowning ship of armymen and they did it successfully and the stones were I think destroyed . And last chapter was like after 1 year he thought of the same powers. Please help me. This is making me desperate as hell. I want to read it again.

Omg I ready this!

Hey, I know this was like a year ago, but I've read this too lol. If you still haven't found the book, I think it's in my school library. I should be able to check the title and author for you tomorrow :)

I think you're thinking of Deltora Quest by Emily Rodda. If you are, there's also an anime based on it.

Looking for book: Clone or Cloned

In the early 70s I read a book called Clone or Cloned. I don't know the author. It states that in the 60s a cloned child was born in Africa whose existence was to one day rule world government or something similar. I am very interested in rereading it.

Do you know this book?

I didn’t even read this book, but I had a girl explain it to me. It’s essentially two books in one, because there’s a main narrative that is complemented by written notes in the margin. Two different people had borrowed the book from the library and were writing each other messages, trying to solve a mystery about the book. If you know what it’s called, I would be much obliged!

A regency book

I read this book when I was 17 it's about a soldier who came home and married a girl it was an arrange marriage. The girl was plus size and ashamed because her cousins use to tease her. She brought a wedding dress that was too small, she had to wrap herself with cloths to fit in it when in the church and she was about to kiss her husband she fainted. Back at her house while taking part in the wedding feast her dress split. The wedding night she was so self-conscious while trying to light the candle she set the curtains on fire. When she went to live with her husband some one keeps trying to kill her turns out it was her husband cousin who wanted to marry him and was jealous of her

I’ve been looking for this book for 5 years

I haven’t had much luck since I can’t remember the authors name or any characters names but the gist of the book was it took place on like an island of some kind and it was separated into sections by walls and the main character gets some device or something that lets him or her escape some thugs who were chasing them down. They eventually go through to the capital of this place and see the government trying to fight these creatures that used to be people (and I remember specifically one of the main characters say they destroy buildings and go for the government building first always). Anyways they get tangled up somehow in the governments actions and they go on a raid on the oldest building on the island in the capital area and find it is making these creatures and the main character finds out that a machine or something inside is designed to create these things and other problems for the people who live on the island to fix or else they’ll go crazy or something. I remember there was like a hologram or something of the creator of the machine the main character talks to and they eventually get on a boat to escape the island. Some more random specific details I remember are that around the island is a sea wall that used to be manned but isn’t defended anymore because the government is in pretty bad shape and the guns that were used by the government only desintegrated organic matter so they don’t break walls and stuff. Any help would be appreciated since I’ve been haunted by trying to find the tittle of this book

That sounds really familiar,

That sounds really familiar, was one of the central characters a cyborg with wings who found a dead seabird? And the device let them........walk through walls I think?

Reply to someone looking for a certain book

Could that book be ELSEWHERE by Gabrielle Zevin? The main character is killed while going to the mall. She then is sent to heaven, given a job, and meets many wonderful people. However, the gist is that she is growing younger each day until she is a baby and reborn.

finding a YA book!

Hello! We had a reference patron who is looking for a book she read in 2001. The book is about two best friends. One died, and the living one crawls through a hole in a tree and finds his best friend in the afterlife. The best friend tells the living friend he can stay with him if he wants, but he is going to have to die. He tells him the ways he could die based off a red book (short term death) and a black book (long term death.) The boy decides to wait until he is older to die based on the information from the black book. The patron says it's around a 5th grade reading level and that a tree was on the cover. She also thought the black book may somehow be in the title. Thanks for any help you all can give!

Looking for any info re: a short story from a sci-fi/fantasy mag

I am looking for help finding any information re: a short story I recall reading from a sci-fi/fantasy magazine. It was probably originally printed sometime in the late 1970's or sometime in the 1980s. The short story was about a secret government experiment that was aimed at slowing or stopping children from aging. Something was put into the food people ate, then those up to the age of 18 or so were put into government-protected camps to protect them while tests are done to see if the anti-aging process "took" or not. If it did not, the child was released back to join his/her family. If it did, they were kept in protective-custody. Apparently, many adults were angry that these children would live forever (either because they felt it was "unnatural" or somehow went against their religious beliefs), and the children needed to be protected from those who wanted to kill them. I recall an incident in the story involved a woman who was a cook in the camp who put ground glass in some stew or meat the children were being fed, in an attempt to kill as many as she could. Any help with either the name and year of the magazine, or (preferably) the name of the story and author would be greatly appreciated. Mahalo.

immortal children

I believe that it's Earthchild by Sharon Webb. There are two sequels: Earth Song and Ram Song. The medicine only works if you're younger than a certain age (probably having to do with puberty). They also find that the immortals lose their desire to be creative. Later, children who are gifted in art, music, science are pushed as hard as they can--then they have to make the choice--remain creative or become immortal. The main character is Kurt.

Thank you for the reply,

Thank you for the reply, Melita. With your help, I was able to research the short story I recalled reading. It was a portion of the novel "Earthchild" called "Earthchild Rising" and was published in the "Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine" published on July 6, 1981, which is where I read it. Again, thank you so much, as I would never have been able to track it down without your help. Mahalo nui loa!

Childhood book, fantasy, like secret garden?

Children/Young Person's Book. The cover looked similar to a wooden door in a brick wall surrounded by vines or leaves and this seemed to continue onto the back cover (this is what I remember and may not be accurate). There was this girl who moves into an old house, alone I believe, which happens to be full of mysteries and secrets. The girl finds a journal detailing a trip through some foreign place (Africa? South America?) on some sort of river cruise where the explorers discover some type of animal. The girl discovers a cave or garden in the house with this type of animal there - called Tigs, Tiggs or Tiggy? There is a possibility there is another character who the girl meets who lives in the town but am unsure. I keep thinking this book is similar to the secret garden, or titled similarly but none of my searches this way have come up with anything. Thanks for any help.

Have only just seen this

Have only just seen this request, hope I can help. Is it The Valley of Secrets by Charmian Hussey? My son and I read it about 10 years ago & I was trying to remember it as well. Saw it in a charity shop & was so pleased to get my own copy. It's about a boy called Stephen, abandoned as a baby, inherits Lansbury Hall in Cornwall - creature is Tig.

Wine Fiction

I started reading a book on holiday about 15 years ago but didn’t finish it! It was about 3 different vineyards - one in the Napa valley, one in France (potentially the champagne region) and one in England (south of England - maybe Essex, maybe south coast) who all create sparkling wine and enter them into a competition. The uk vineyard was the underdog and everyone thought they were ridiculous for trying to make sparkling wine. I vaguely remember something about the uk vineyard being called Froggy bottom or foggy bottom but this might not be correct. I’ve googled it for several years and have had no luck so hopefully you guys can help! Thank you in advance!

vineyard book

Was it a true story? There is a vineyard in Sussex called Breaky Bottom.

Romance/Mystery book that I don't know the name of, or author

I read this book a long time ago and would love to find it again. A young English lord gets kidnapped by bandits in Greece and is rescued by a young woman. Her father, after hearing of it, tells her they have to leave because he's been wrongfully accused of his father's murder back in England and has been in hiding all these years. He had kidnapped her as a baby and taken her with him because her mother divorced him. She goes back to England to try to clear his name and is hired by her own mother, who she resents but who immediately develops an affection for her, as a companion. She encounters the young lord again, as well as her father's cousin who inherited the title and has been in love with her mother all along and is trying to marry her. Her father then follows her and hides in the Estate, and as she tries to solve the mystery of her grandfather's murder they both become endangered.

Looking for Book, Possibly by Ursula K LeGuin

I read a wonderful book, long ago and Im trying so hard to find it so that I may read it again. In this book, something had happened to the human population and a pregnant woman survived alone. Please, help me find it!

PLZ HELP I LITERALLY CANNOT FIND THIS BOOK

So all I know is that there is this man who murders women and puts them in doll-like positions, naked with a rose (or some sort of flower) and this is his trademark. I guess he is sort of obsessed with dolls. I'm not sure of any more details. Sorry for the vague description.

Help!!

I read a YA book years ago about a high school aged girl who wins a scholarship/award to go to Washington D.C. and she stays in a hotel with maybe 10 other teens. I distinctly remember them playing "sardines" in the hotel and two of the teens hooked up in an elevator (this is where the totally innocent protagonist finds them and discovers that "sardines" is a hook-up game). One night, they sneak out of the hotel and witness a murder from the vent of a bathroom or something like that. The protagonist also gets caught in a love triangle of sorts where both boys try to beat each other to be her first kiss (she ends up kissing them both). One of the boys is an all-American sweetheart and the other is a typical rich bad boy (who I'm pretty sure convinced them to sneak out of the hotel in the first place). I think this book was the first installment in a series, but I forgot the title and was never able to read the entire series!

Looking for the title of a book

Good Morning; I am looking for the title of a book that I read many years ago (15+) and cannot remember. The book was about a young girl who survived a catastrophic tsunami while hiding in a seawall near her home. After the tsunami dissipates, she finds out that her best friend and brother have died. She also realizes that she was able to breath under water which helped her to survive. She then finds out that there are other people who are able to live underwater. She meets a male character who is one of these people and he convinces her to try to live in the sea with him. She notices that there are different groups of these people and they all have different markings on their bodies, especially their wrists. She falls in love with this man and begins to develop the red and yellow markings of his group. Unfortunately, that is all I seem to remember about the book. I would appreciate any help you could offer in helping me to find out the title of this book. Thank you for your time and help.

I can´t remember the name of the book , i read it in high school, it was a bout a girl who was abused by her stepfather, so she runs away, becomes a prostitute, end up making a lot of money, opens up clubs, and i think ends up with a car wash.. anyone?? help!

Childhood book

I’m trying to remember this book I read as a kid. I was born in 1989 so this book could have been from the 80s or 90s. It was a 3 chapter book I believe. All I can remember was there was a dog getting ready for a dog show. It had to have a bath. I believe it wins the dog show at the end. It had pictures throughout too.

Might be Harry The Dirty Dog?

Might be Harry The Dirty Dog? Don’t know if he wins a prize but he definitely runs away to avoid a bath

I can't remember this book!!

I read this book and I know it's a series but I can't find or remember what it's called. The cover has a girl on it and I don't remember her name but I think it started with a C or a K. Anyways she wakes up in the middle of the night to the police and she finds out that her parents were found dead in their room. Throughout the book we find out that the parents own this company and I think it has to do with genetic modification because the girl and her brothers all take special medication and it makes the younger brother super strong. The girl finds out stuff about her life she can't remember like a boy she was in love with and tried to runaway with. The sister and her brothers also find out that their father got one of the brothers girlfriend pregnant. At the end of the book they watch a video of how the parents died and it turns out that the mother was sick with a tumor or cancer and the father didn't want to live without her so they drank poison.

Hi! I know that this a little

Hi! I know that this a little late, but this book is called: Confessions of a Murder Suspect, by James Patterson. The main character is Tandy.

Fantasy book.

I remember reading a book where one of the character's names' was 'Nevn', or something like it. I remember the description for the name was that it meant "no-one". I believe this character was a wizard or magic-user of some kind, and was kind of a low-profile person due to his past. He may have been with/training a young man, and frequently gave advice to this person. I don't remember the rest of the story unfortunately, except I think this boy was someone of import to the story. I know this is pretty vague, but it's all I can remember of it. I probably read this book maybe 10 or more years ago. I tried Google Search to no avail.

trying to find this book again

i'm trying to find the name of a book that i have read a while ago . It was about a group of friends that gets sent back in time after gettnig together and playing baseball. I can't remember much about it as it was a while ago that i read it but i know that they have some interactions with one of the friends grandfather and i think a doctor of something of that nature who shows them ways to travel by anchoring to an object. If anyone could help that would be great

The start of one of my favorite series

So the book you are looking for is In Times Like These: A Time Travel Adventure by Nathan Van Coops. It is a great book and the start of a great series. I suggest that you reread it and get the next one as well.

Young Adult

For years I have searched for a book. I think the title is something along the lines of The Things Our Mothers Taught Us. The cover is a girl braiding golden blonde hair. I read the book in maybe 2010? The young girl's mother has cancer. There is one part about a party with a bonfire where the girl loses her virginity.

Book about controlling time

I can vaguely remember a book I read about people who had been trained to control time (a la Terry Pratchett's History Monks). The only scene I remember clearly was a moment where two major characters are together under a tree and the one who could control time slowed things down so much that they were standing under the tree together for years (possibly generations). It's bugging me that I can't remember the rest of it!

Thursday Next

I am fairly certain the scene with the characters under a tree is from “Lost in a Good Book,” the second book in the Thursday Next Chronicles by Jasper Fforde

Book about teenage girls finding her friends murderer

I read this book about 13 years ago. It’s about a teenage girl who moves to a new town and becomes best friends with a unpopular girl. The unpopular friend is found dead. Later in the book, the girl still alive is chased by the murder in her house and ends up dropping a tv on the murderers head as he chases her up the attic. I cannot remember the title of this book

What's the name of the book

Romance novel I read about a dozen years back. The heroine meets the hero as a beautiful model who he thinks is a bit dumb, and later as a scientist/researcher who is not pretty. She dresses up as a dowdy woman using make-up and pretends to be two different women to the hero. He ends up falling in love with both her person and tells his friend that he likes the model for her intelligence and the dowdy scientist for her grace. He only figures out that they are both same when he finally does it with the model. He is angry initially but then goes out to cool down and tells a stranger on the beach(?) about his issue. The stranger points out that he thought that they were two different women he was in love with and now he knows they are the same, which is a great ending.

looking for a book

I read this book a long time ago and cannot recollect the title or the author's name. The book cover has a picture of a car painted orange and either an eagle or dragon on the car. The story is about a boy who can repair anything on four wheels, and he built his car from the scratch using scraps he bought from the junkyard he works. He has a sister he cares for and a father who has taken to drinking since their mother left or died; can't remember. He had to combine schooling and work to provide for his sister and drunk father. Somehow, the sister had an accident while driving her drunk father home and I can't remember what happened after that. Pls help I need to read this book again. Thanks.

Is this it.

I think the book you are looking for is Stetson by S.L.Rottman.

Can't remember name of really good book

Please, help

I read this book as a girl but can't remember the title. Names of the character I remember are Celia Trevarwit (can't remember the correct spelling of the surname), Isobel, Paul. Little Celia lost her mother at a tender age and was in care of her father until the whole family fell into the trap of Isobel as a stepmother. Celia soon lost her father and was being raised by her wicked stepmother who was bent on marrying her off to her mature male friend, Fulke Withers. She was lonely until she met Paul and a relationship started between them. She was helped by a naval officer to escape to Paul, who took care of her until he had to go to war. Please, help me with the title. I have been searching for the book/title for a while.

If you Google Celia Trevarwit

If you Google Celia Trevarwit, you get Escape to Love by Denise Robins. There is a character named Paul and a step-mother. >Storm Castle - home of the Trevarwiths - on the wild Cornish coast. A bride and bridegroom driving up to the doors...a white-faced child peering from a turret window... the first dread meeting between the bride and her red-haired vixen of a step-mother... In later years, after the death of Celia Trevarwith's father, during the Second World War, Paul Manton comes to the district. A Free-French fisherman; he falls madly in love with Celia. She then embarks on a passionate struggle for her love and happiness with Paul, always up against her step-mother's opposition.

I think the book is Stetson

I think the book is Stetson by S. L. Rottman: Stetson has a dream. He's been rebuilding an old Honda Civic working at a salvage yard, and designing T-shirts to help pay for food and parts. As long as Stet avoids his abusive, alcoholic father, he considers himself lucky. His car, his art, and a high school diploma are his tickets out of their factory town. Then his father brings home Kayla--a younger sister Stet never knew he had. His mother had been pregnant when she left, but told no one; now she's dead, and Kayla has nowhere else to go. Can these two wary siblings find anything in common, and try to build a future together?

Okay, lets give this a shot.

Okay, lets give this a shot. I don't remember much of the book because I read it 10+ years ago when I was in middle school. The book came out sometime before 2005. If my memory is right, it was about a romance novel where the man and woman fall in love. While I'm having a hard time remember everything but I do remember near the end. She was chained down in a lake or ocean or something. The man was desperately looking for her. Finally, like a spirit or a light of some kind showed him where she was. He got her out of the water in time before she drowned. There was also someone that wanted to kill her, which is why she got chained down to the ocean or water or something. Please help!

I think we are looking for the same book. I remember they had gone through this across time. Each time her is some type of protector (warrior). They did not trust each other and she always dies and he could not live without her. They meet one last time where she has a cabin by a lake. She would see him in her dreams. He did rescue her at the end... does this sound familiar?

looking for a childhood favorite

I'm hoping someone can help me, as I've been looking for a particular book for years that I absolutely adored as a child. It was a genuinely pretty freaky picture book, where most of the book was gorgeous, detailed horror settings -- such as a junkyard, a forest, etc., and in each place, you (the POV character) hear a noise and ask, "Who's there?" A voice always responds back, "Nobody..." At the very end of the book, it turns out "nobody" is actually "no BODY," and whoever it was had been building himself a body out of various bits from the previous scenes. The end of the book allowed you to 'meet' the monster in question in the form of a large fold-out poster that was attached inside. I loved this book so so much as a kid, but I've never been able to find it again. :( Does anyone know what I mean? I'd really appreciate the help!

Name of short science fiction story

I read this back in the 70s. A man finds himself in a society of farmer-types who have to hibernate every winter to keep from starving. They wake and grow their food every spring. He has difficulty the first few years but eventually adapts and is with the people for many years. The end of the story is the discovery that he was in a car wreck and has hallucinated the whole thing - he experienced the days as summer and the nights as winter as he crawled on the side of the road for several days. Please help me find the name of this story! Thanks.

I really wanted to read this book but I can't remember its title. Its cover was a picture of a rose and the story is about this teenage girl who likes this boy secretly and for some reason had a one night stand with him. They got married but the guy leave the girl after the marriage. He went to another state, studied and become a successful dentist (or something to do in medical field job)? Met a woman that he like and wanted to marry but before that, he has to divorce the wife first. So he came back to his town to look for the wife/ to divorce her... this guy didn't know that he had impregnated his wife & had a daughter with her.... I think this is a recent novel but the title was changed from the original one... hope any of you guys can tell me the title of this book.

The place where the girl lived was enacting laws against Magic. Her father had died and she was angry about her mother re-marrying. A novel like a sort of fable

5 years ago I read a book whose title I don’t know. Its time and place are undefined, it seems something like South America in old times. A man arrives from the sea, naked, he’s helped by the local poor simple people who live on fishing. He becomes a sort of religious philosopher, he later has conversations with the leader of the catholic church, but has free love with men and girls. On the near mountains, in the wood, some shepherds find a girl who has been grown by woolves. They take her to the village and she’s sent to a nunnery to make her become a human being but she’llcome back to the wood.

A novel like a sort of fable

Was this 'Knowledge of Angels' by Jill Paton Walsh - it sounds very similar.

Help me find this book

So the book I’m trying to remember is this book about a girl who was convinced by her best friend to go to this party for her birthday. On the way there she gets into a car accident and switches into a ditch. But she wakes up underground in a room. And she is met by this man that she latter falls in love with and he tells her that he saved her. And that man is also supposed to have some sort of powers for healing and some other abilities like super speed and so does everyone else like him. And due that fact he and his kind don’t go up much because people will try to us them. And so they fall in love while this company searches for the guys and his kind to use them. One day the girl is kidnaped and used to get the guy and his kind to come up and save her but only he comes while his kind go to a different city to be safe. And ultimately he saves her and then he givers her the option of coming with him and his kind or to stay there with her family and she decides to go with him. And that’s how the boom ends. There’s supposed to be a second book and this bio that I have just discribes has a purple cover with I believe a green clover or a purple four leaf clover necklace charm on it. Please tell me if U can find this book!

maybe the Madison Avery series?

This is pretty late, but I think this might be by Kim Harrison? The first book is "Once Dead, Twice Shy," but it sounds like you're describing the prequel from the anthology "Prom Nights from Hell." She dies on her way to going to prom on her birthday and finds herself trapped by a grim reaper type person. She regains her body by stealing something from him, and eventually joins the people who fight the reapers?

Book

Im also pretty sure she meets a boy

This book has eluded me for years

There was a book I read in grade school that was sort of a collection of American stories involving a stone pendant (shaped like an owl I believe)...different people come into contact with it over time and it almost acts like a guardian.

A short horror story about farmer

This might not be a book, but rather in a book that's about a bunch of short horror tales. It's about a farmer who takes in a wolf pup he finds in the wilderness. He cares for it despite the fact he has sheep, and he ignores what other people say. However, one day he finds a dead sheep, and the wolf pup with blood on it. He kills the wolf, thinking he killed the sheep, but then finds the body of another, grown wolf. It's then that he realizes the wolf had been trying to protect the sheep. The farmer is then haunted by the ghost of the wolf pup

Thrilling and suspenseful novel about kidnapping and faith

The story has three different points of view (different main characters, depending on the chapter). One young man breaks up with his girlfriend and has a hard time getting over her, while the ex-girlfriend starts to live her life again (she is another point of view). In the story the ex-girlfriend gets kidnapped and held in a farmhouse in the middle of no where with a few other girls. The young man does everything he can to find her again- goes to police and family members, even speaks to a priest. The story moves to the girls point of view and how the have to live using a bucket for a washroom and hay for a bed, the kidnapper comes back every now and then to check on the girls... Eventually the girls get cell reception and the police find her approximate location; the young man hurries to find her there. Somehow the farmhouse catches on fire and the young man finds the girl again. In the end they find out it was the local police officer (or sherriff/ law inforcement) who kidnapped the girls. The story finishes with the young man finding god and becoming a man of faith.

Looking for a few books and short stories

1. A YA book I read wayyyy back when I was in the 7th grade about a medieval princess whose village gets raided or something and she ends up being transported through time to the future. And when she gets to where she's supposed to be, she gets brutally raped by one of the guys supposed to be helping her. I don't remember much because I was so traumatized by reading that part that I never finished the book... It was an old book when I read it so I want to say it may have been published in the 80s or 90s. 2. A short story I read in an anthology in school (also 7th grade) about a man visiting a friend/acquaintance's home to check in on his wife during either WWI or WWII. Could be set in England too but the details are fizzy. Anyway, the man says good night to the wife and somehow some of her hair gets caught on his shirt. He wakes up the next morning only to find out from the servants in the house that the friend's wife is dead and he was interacting with a ghost. I want to say the story was called The Specter but I've never reenable to find it. Scared the crap out of me...

Here goes nothing

A popular (as it was recommended to me) book I read most likely about 10 - 20 years ago. From memory it was a book that followed the journey of a young man/woman. I’m pretty sure it was a love story that involved the person studying at Berkeley University??? Not much to go on unfortunately as that’s all I can remember apart from the fact it was a very moving book emotionally as the book was very descriptive with the seasons.

Romance

Im looking for a book where a woman is shot in the head during a drive by and has a near death experience where she sees her mom and grandma. She decides to move to her grandma's house

Old Romance Book

I can't find a book I've been looking for and don't know if I even have the title right either. I thought it was called "Sable". I used to own it, and it had a pirates ship in the background with a couple embracing on the front. It was about a girl (Sable) that is taken onto a pirate ship. She ends up falling in love with her captor after trying to escape and being brought back to the ship by the captain. He ends up not being a pirate but a man out to reclaim his land. There is even a portion of the book where the girl rescues him as well. I can't remember the captain's name, but I would truly love to find this book again. Can anyone help me out? Does it sound like anything anyone has read before?

Looking for an older children’s book I read in the 80s

Hi - I’m looking for a book I read and enjoyed around 1983-5 about a boy who goes to live with his grandfather in the snowy woods, Grandfather is somewhat of a hermit who takes care of yeti or sasquatch like creatures, and I believe in one scene feeds them in the barn by firelight. There’s a few black and white illustrations in the book. Any help would be much appreciated - thanks.

Two books: A man in love with his slave, and a time traveller

I'm looking for two stories, one; A man returns home from war and gives his father a slave, but his father refuses and gives her instead to his other son (the main character) who the man who returned from war hates. The main character accepts her but refuses to touch her. Over time he falls in love with her but there are still a lot of challenges to be faced. This is about all I can remember. Two; (read this about 10 years ago) a young lady falls down hits her head and wakes up in a different time (years before her own time), falls in love with and marries a celebrity who was already dead in her time. She has another accident and wakes up in her own time only to discover that history has rewritten itself and everybody knows her as this celebrity's wife, and he's dead. Also the newspapers say she disappeared the night he died. She is invited by the police for questioning on where she had been all those years since the night of her husband's death. One of the policemen looks exactly like a policeman from her husband's time and she finds out he's his son. She is finally able to go back in time to the night her husband died and save him. Thanks for the help.

a story about a man on a red planet missing the colours of earth

Hello, i'm looking for a short story i've read a while ago, it was kind of science fiction in style of Stanislaw Lem, or maybe it was him even, but i cant google my way to it.... It's about a man crash landing on a planet that is entirely red, as in everything is some kind of red colour. The man misses earth and especially things like green grass. The man slowly is loosing his mind after years on the planet and finally there's another man landing on the planet to save him but it turns out earth does not longer exist, and the man comes from a different planet also dominated with a certain colour. The "Crusoe" kills his saviour and continues to live in denial about someone coming to save him soon and taking him back to earth.

I need help finding this book

I need help finding a book. When I read it a while back it was unpublished and I was chosen to be a trial reader. I remember there was a black cover with a blue butterfly on it. It was about a girl who got into a accident and gained the ability to see people's death. It was a horror/thriller novel and the girl had to find out who was murdering her friends. The huge plot twist was that her closest friend was the one murder everyone and he was obsessed with her. I think she ended up dying, but if you know the name of the book please email it to me.

Help me find this book

I remember reading this book in my highschool library, and it had a very beautifully illustrated cover. It was a girl who had her hair cut very short and she was wielding a sword viewed from a top down angle. If I recall correctly her name was Alex, short for Alexandra because she hated being called Alexandra. I *think* she had a grandpa who got kidnapped, but it might be memories from other novels being mixed into this. I vividly remember a scene where she was standing at a train station and waiting for the next train, and a stranger just told her to get on. After she got on the train she was whisked into a party where she met many people. The people were being fed a special drink which got them drowsy, but she didn't take it. Then she realized the day was repeating but the people around her didn't realize it. She couldn't look out the windows either because all of it was shut tight. I think I remember something about one person vanishing every loop? Then I think she found out the culprit and proceeded to kick a**? I can't be sure, I don't really remember. After that she went into the forest with her cat which I think she saved from the culprit? Then I remember her going into a hotel which had a giant refrigerator, some shenanigans happened and she had to trap someone inside the giant refrigerator. Then she stumbled upon a filming crew?? That's where the events get hazy. I don't quite remember anymore, and I hope someone here knows what I'm talking about because I'm pretty sure I didn't hallucinate the entire thing. It's a teen's book with a brightly illustrated cover, and looks really rustic.

i read a book of short ghost stories a long time ago, on of the stories involved a girl who is being haunted by the ghost of a young kid; seeing it in a pond, a bathtub, and on a computer. it turns out that she accidentally hit the kid with her car one rainy night and thats why it was haunting her. its droving me crazy that i can’t figure it out

I think that's one of Bruce

I think that's one of Bruce Coville's horror anthologies, but I forget which. The kid was riding a bicycle, and also haunted the girl's water bed. The fact that she kept showing up in water helped the girl lead the police to her body.

Are you sure it’s not one of

Are you sure it’s not one of Vivian Vande Velde’s stories? She had one about a girl who’s haunted by a young girl on a bicycle who she killed while drunk driving on a rainy night. I remember because there was a bit with a water bed. I think it was in her book Being Dead.

Please help me with the title

Hi, so I read this book a few years ago, it was about a young girl being kidnapped in a park and her parents coopering with FBI and trying to find her.(The kidnappers called and asked for 5 mil.) Her father has a PhD from MIT and he just started his company that went public and he became a billionaire. The mother is an attorney or something similar and has a much stronger character than the father. In the end the father collects the courage and goes of to save the girl from the kidnappers who were somehow connected to his wife (the mother) I cannot remember exactly. Please help me if you can, I have searched for hours and cannot find anything.

Looking for this book i read a long time ago

there was this little girl whose father, I think a duke was assasinated by his half brother, who also asked the killers to kill the girl but the killer did not when she saw the girl's innocent eyes. He leaves her instead and told her to run away; She was later raised in the village and taught how to fight and grew up to be very beautiful. When she grew up she started stealing from the rich to help the poor. In the end her step uncle wanted her to marry his son but she fell in love with someone else who is from a rich family and even had a son with him.

It was a book I read in middle school or high school where a girl lives outcast from people near a lake, she feels drawn to the water but can't risk going into it because of an accident that got someone she knew killed. There is a sort of love triangle between one guy who is a friend of hers (eventual boyfriend), and a guy who almost appears to be better for her but tries to get her killed. I can't remember the title or character names, but I can somewhat remember the cover, it has a girl hiding behind a tree near a river or lake and a guy approaching her, looking up at her.

2nd wife point of view, disabled stepson Abel, husband Lincoln?

Read this about 15 years ago. Book written from 2nd wife’s point of view. Husband (I think his name was Lincoln?) had a 10 year old disabled son named Abel. The first wife was intent on destroying the marriage of Lincoln and 2nd wife. First wife put their disabled son in a more expensive school, so expensive that the 2nd wife had to work all summer as a secretary (?) to pay for the school tuition. The Title of my Favorite Book

I read a book back in school that I really enjoyed. It was about a boy who was visited by a ghost and taken into the ghost world, I believe in New York. I have tried to find the book but I can't seem to, I thought the title was "The Night Visitor" but apparently not since I haven't found anything similar under that title. I read this book 6-7 years ago so it isn't new, if anyone knows or finds the book please let me know. Thank you.

we think this might be...

The Night Tourist by Katherine Marsh!

Book of short stories

It was a book of short stories, I think they all involved children. In one a kid discovers a new color while digging in his backyard. In another a kid has something they hold in their hands that they won't show anyone. One of them this family is running from something and it turns out it was ju at kids playing with some toy cars? Possibly a story about aliens? It's driving me mad!

2014 Contemporary Romance

I cannot remember the name of this book, but I am pretty sure it was published in 2014. It is a contemporary romance novel about a woman who returns to her hometown to help her mother take care of her father after she ran away to NYC when she was a teenager. She left behind a boyfriend who went on to marry her former best friend and they reunite when she returns, and he is now a doctor (I think). She and the boyfriend rekindle their romance and his ex-wife finds incriminating photos of her from NYC and sends them to people in the town. (when she ran off to NYC she was on drugs, and she has gotten her life together since then) I believe this was a part of a series as well if anyone could help that would be great. thanks.

Fictional book

I'm looking for an old book probably between 80's and early 2000's, and I remember what the cover looks like, of a giant...maybe cyclops... taking kids in a field. It was about a giant who came from another dimension and tried to kidnap the kids. The boy went into the other dimension and eventually was trained by some kind of creature, who I think looked like a rat, and he learned basically psychic powers.

Young adult science-fiction book

I read a novel in 2007/2008 and I believe it was released around that time. I can’t remember much from the plot. I do remember that the cover was orange-ish, and there was a shadow of a man running across, I believe? There was also a black stripe running across the book (once again not positive). When it comes to the plot, it had something to do with the young boy being able to travel through time or something similar. Please help me figure the name of this book out!

I Can't Find This Book

This is a book about a school of magic. If I remember correctly, it's about this young teen who lives in a grey and boring area controlled by an established government. If there is more than 1 child in the family, then only the "good" child stays alive while tthe other is sent to get executed. This boy was the not so exceptional child and he was sent to die. However, instead of dying, he was taken into a different realm of sorts with a school of magic. Please help me find this book. Almost positive it has a sequel as well.

HELP

I've been looking for this book for the longest time but can't seem to find anything remotely similar to it. The few things I can remember was that this guy had a thing for murdering prostitutes and then placing them in fairy tale costumes before he flees the scene. I think the ending consisted of him throwing his grandma in the oven like they did in Hansel and Gretel. I can't remember much, but please help!

Books for “tweens” or young teesgers

I am wanting to introduce my granddaughters to books I read between agrs of 11-14 Will these tips and hints work for thst type of search?

Looking for a true crime book

I had this book more than ten years ago. True crime nonfiction, it’s about murders throughout history. I recall many being British. It featured a lot of stories, but the ones I remember clearly are the case of Ruth Ellis, the torture murder of Anne Naylor, and the two princes killed in London Tower. It was a very long book, my copy was hardcover with a red jacket.

HEELLPP!

I have been searching for a book for several years, it came in a large box of books donated by a local yardsale company. The details are a little sketchy but im like 80% sure its part of a series. There is a man and woman, both lawyers or attoneys or some kind of black tie occupation and the man frequently travels back in time/alternate dimention set in the middle ages to escape his day to day life, and eventually the woman follows suit learning the hard way its alot harder for women in that time period. I do remebwr that they didnt particularly like one anothwr. I remeber one single line from it clearly in which he is talking about his friends slave girl and pondering if he would "let me borrow her sometime" i do believ the words he used was. I think it was a crystal sculpture or sphere that was used as the way to travel. God speed to anyone who can tell me what the heck this book is

Help me!! I need to find this book

I believe it is Sweet Dreams Annabelle. It’s a children’s book from the late 80s or early 90s. A monster day is telling his daughter a goodnight story. Slowly a monster comes out of her closet. I really need this. It was my favorite book from my childhood. Please.

Fantasy Series Switched boy/girl child magic

A boy and a girl baby were swapped the night they were born. The midwife was the one who swapped them, it was a home birth one right after the other - the midwife had to run between the farm and the cottage to deliver the babies. One of the children had magic powers this one ended up living on the farm away from the magic family on the cottage. The non magic child ended up living in the cottage with the magic family and as he/she grew up felt disappointed at not being able to use magic (felt unwanted etc). Not sure what happens next but it involves magic and the kids have to go on an adventure and save something/someone. Along the way the kids get jailed and make a sheet rope and leave the castle (there is an illustration in the book dipicting this). There are also illustrations of maps. It’s written in a very similar style to Joseph Delaney (the illustrations also look very similar to what he has in his books) but it is written for younger readers - very similar plot lines as Joseph Delaney. The book is set in a small farming village but there is a Forrest nearby (where the witch cottage is). Publication date would be no later than 2008 as I read the books in high school and graduated in 2008.

Vampire book

I can't remember character names or the title of the book. The book is a series book. I read the first one, but the second wasn't coming out for a long time. Eventually I forgot the name of the book and when I went back to the library to see if I could find it again, someone else either had borrowed it or the book was no longer there. Anyway, I digress. Can someone please help me remember the title. The book is about a girl who lives with two other sisters in a castle/ house with their dad. The two sisters have to go out at night every so often to hunt for a guy. They bring the guy home, and feed him to their dad (Obviously, the dad is a vampire). The youngest child is oblivious to all of this. She stays at home while at least one of the sisters is out at night hunting. The three sisters have a nanny who prepares special food for them. This food helps prevent the girls from becoming vampires for as long as possible. Or something like that. The youngest daughter is not aloud to be in the father's bedroom while he is not there or asleep. And of course she eventually goes in anyway. In one of the father's drawers she find pictures of other young females dating to way back when. One of those pictures looks like she could be her mom. Later on she finds out that her dad is a vampire as well as her mom who also is a daughter of the vampire. Once the daughters get to a certain age, they move out of the house and live with the other female vampires. The youngest doesn't like what she has found out about her family and herself. So, she runs away. Her siblings are worried about her and ask the father if maybe he should go after her. He's like no, she'll come back on her own once she realizes who she is. Since she is no longer getting the special food from the nanny, because she ran away. And the first book ends there with the girl in the woods running away from home.

book

I read this book about 4 years back, it was by an Indian lady author. The book was "forever something", the story is about this Indian girl, who has to move to the United states with her parents and sister, because her father got a better job, but she doesn't want to because she is engaged to a boy in India. She moves and she finds it difficult to cope up with the culture, she gets bullied at school. Then she starts catching feelings for a boy names tony, who is a violinist. the boy responds. She slowly forgets her love back in India. Her mother shuts down completely, as she hates the place and has nobody with her, so she is in the room all the time, in her bed. then one day her boyfriend from India visits and surprises her, but she is at that moment with tony, her boyfriend understands something is wrong. And the story ends somewhere there. if anybody knows the book, please let me know, thankyou!

I've been looking for either

I've been looking for either that book or a book like that. I was wondering if in that book they go back to India and then she tries to run away because she doesn't want to marry someone. And then someone tries helping her. I can't remember what is said in the book or anything but I remember what I imagined.

Romance book title

I read this book a long time ago. I remember the cover has the woman in a red dress being held by the man. The woman was the daughter of a plantation owner and she was in love with the overseer for the slaves. They are caught together and the father tells each of them lies. The man somehow ends up on a ship. The woman has his child and years later the man shows up and marries her. He is wealthy and will not let her or the daughter have contact with the father(plantation owner). There is a scene where he discovers that she had been whipped just like he had.

What's the children's book about a paper man?

I remember reading a children's book when I was little, it was about a little boy who was afraid of the dark and didn't want to go to bed because of the paper man. I can't remember the name of it. I remember some parts of it, the paper man was on the ceiling and rattling, he looked really creepy, like an angry old man but whenever there was a bit of light, he would cower away and stay in the dark. If anyone knows the book, please, let me know

Book where woman sees ghost girl(s)

The woman traveled to a family home (I think) on an island (maybe A Great Lakes type where you have to take a ferry). She saw girls on the property that turned out to be ghosts in the end. The girls would sing a haunting song (maybe something like that old song...come out and play with me and bring your dollies three) maybe while they were swinging. At the end, it was winter or very cold and raining. She followed them down to a cliff or rocks by the water and somehow during this, she realized how they died. I think there was a ribbon or something she always saw on the girl(s). I think I remember some reference to the back door (kitchen door?) of the house If I’m remembering right, she had to get around on a bike because of it being an island and not bringing your cars there. Ugh! I hope that’s enough that someone will know what I mean!

I think you're thinking of

I think you're thinking of one of the books in Darynda Jones' series. The main character is Charley Davidson and the first book in the series is First Grave on the Right. It seems to me that that was a subplot in one of the middle/later books. Hope this helps!

Dark Turns by Cate Holahan?

Dark Turns by Cate Holahan?

actually, I don't think it

actually, I don't think it was dark turns, I am looking for the same book! It's about a girl, so this girl and her friends jump in a lake because it is "tradition" after a Halloween, I believe she dressed up as something clashy and apparently she didn't like it. The first girl jumps in and then she screams and sees a body. The police start to investigate, and they all go to a private school. Basically, the main character is the most popular girl in school and so are her friends. When she finds out who dies, she doesn't really know her. And all of the sudden she gets an email from a dead person to get her "revenge". And she basically has to complete these riddles online, and it's associated with a "baking project", for example, one of her friends's name is Tai or sometime so her recipe for her revenge for Tai would be Tai Dinner. She has to complete these riddles within the time limit otherwise the dead person will come out for her, and basically ruin her life by releasing her secrets. Soemthing like that. I believe the hacker, the girl was the killerin the end.

Help me find this book Please.

Its about a girl and her family, they move to a new house, its pretty big, but it has two towers on either side and one tower she can access but the other she can't. Anyways she starts to try and look for a way into the tower that has no door that leads to it. But where the door is meant to be a wall is, as she continues her days as normal she starts to find clues as to how to get into the tower, anyways one morning at about 2am she gets up and takes a look at where the door is meant to be instead of finding the wall she had seen earlier a door appears in its place and the clues she finds match whatever she needs to decipher on the door except shes missing the key. She looks for they key the next day ( I think can't really remember, read the book about 3 years ago) she finds the key and wakes up at the exact same time she had the previous morning but as she goes through the same process she goes to put the key in and the door disappears, leaving her in front of the wall she found the day she had moved, she realizes the door is only opened for a few minutes, and decides to do the same thing the next day.She finally gets in to the tower, but there are other people in the tower. Each person that enters the tower is from a different timeline, and time stands still for them. They all become friends, but the longer they stay in the tower and stuck in time the more they put themselves and the times they come from in danger. They start to realise that they can no longer meet each other and live their own lives, but they have to save the world by solving the mystery of this tower. Each person from the tower has to solve a certain mystery around or in the house, but each mystery has to do with the attractions of the house, one of the attractions is a fountain in the backyard surrounded by overgrown plants. And one of the characters in the book wears a 1940's fighter pilot goggles and hat. Anyways I absolutely love this book.> The cover of this book had a house with two towers and was dark brown and the moon i think was a clock. the background of the cover was a dark purple.

Hailey, I think your book is "The Witches of Worm" by Zilpha Keatley Snyder! It was first published in 1972, so you definitely could have read in 2002 (if my math is correct and you were 14 at that time). Look it up, it matches your description!

Would love help finding a book I read as a child!

when I was about 8 years old (1978), I read a book I really loved, but I can't remember the author, title, or the name of any of the characters - just some of some of the story. It was about a little girl whose dad died, she runs away from home because she thinks her stepmother hates her (in reality she loves her and is worried and searches all over for her). I just remember that the little girl camped out in fields, had some money and was really good at planning out how she'd take care of herself. In the end, the girl and her stepmother are reunited, and the little girl realizes that she was loved all along. But that's all I can remember. Can anyone help?

I believe it is a YA novel and the only parts of the book i can remember is that it's a love story between these two characters and one of the characters makes collages as a hobby. Book

All I can remember about this book is that it's told in letter form from this guy to another about how he went somewhere and ended up in some kind of green lake/atmosphere (?) and it made everything really heavy and the only way he got out was by using the momentum from firing a gun, there was a bear trapped at the bottom, to stay alive he had to drink some kind of liquid and he somehow managed to ship himself back to where he was from in a box but died on the way cause he ran out of said liquid.

I can't finde one book I saw in a book store

The book is about girl who is following her parents footsteps by going in school for villans or evil school. It has two maybe more parts. Second part is about rivalry between two school's. Can somebody pleas tell me whati is the title of this book?

This sounds like it might be

This sounds like it might be The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani

There's a village where

There's a village where everything is super strict and no music is allowed. There's a young girl who secretly plays her deceased mother's violin. There's a group of rowdy teenagers who no one disciplines. One day a traveling musician (I think her name is Sunny) comes through and stays for a while. The young girl has dreams of being a mouse. Turns out she really is turning into a mouse at night. The rowdy teenagers also turn into animals at night. Sunny discovers ancient mining machines in the mountains. The cover had 2 girls on it, one with dark hair holding her head like it hurt, and the other holding a ball or silver or, and along blade of grass(?) In the other hand, piercing the orb with it.

childrens book

Trying to find this book.

I have tried every where to try to find the title of this book. I read it when I was in high school and really enjoyed it. I don't remember a lot, but here is what I do remember. The girl's family owned a bookshop and one day this strange gentleman came in looking for something. And I don't remember if there was a pendant or not, but if I remember correctly, I do remember that they (the young girl and her male friend) went through a photo to a different time period. And they were trying to fix/find something before the guy found them. I think that's accurate but I'm not sure. It's all I have to go on right now.
The heroine is a British girl of 19 called Katy and the H was in his mid 30's. She goes to the loo in the middle of the night and climbs into his vehicle. Katy is pretty clumsy and doesn't have a lot of confidence and he exudes loads of charisma. A bear attacks at some point during the story but he saves her. I think it was set in Canada, near the big Sur?? (I could be wrong) Anyway, they live happily ever after but would LOVE to find this book. I read it years ago and it has stayed with me as it was such a lovely story.

please help me remember this book

I used to be obsessed with this series but I can't remember it's name now. It was about a girl who lived with this old lady, and the lady tells her that she's got powers over the earth and that there are three other people out there like her, but they control fire, water, and air. She explains how there's normally five, one of them being a gatherer of sorts that brings everyone together, but that this time the main character (earth girl) is the gatherer. I think there are three or four books and I don't remember much about the other characters except that earth girl ends up falling in love with the fire guy (who might'be been a prince or just really rich?) and he asks her to marry him in the middle of a sea storm in a boat when they're not really sure if they're going to live or not. I've been looking for this book for ages, any help is appreciated!

we found an answer for you...

We think this book is The Dark Is Rising Sequence by Susan Cooper!

Uh, no

The Dark is Rising series doesn't match. You may be remembering the 6 signs (wood, bronze, iron, fire, water, stone) that were plot tokens in the book.

Please help me find out the title of this book!!!

This book is about a teenage girl whose boyfriend died. He was a foreign student from Britain I believe and she lived in the US. After his death she became extremely depressed so her parents switched her to a school of some sorts for damaged kids I think, I’m not really sure about that part. But anyways there she is one of about 5 or 6 teenagers who are put into this special class and in that class, the teacher gives each kid a journal and everytime they write in the journal, they experience a moment with the person they “lost”. I never got to finish it but it was so interesting and I’ve tried looking for it everywhere but I can’t remember the title!! If anyone can help me that’d be greatly appreciated.

We think this book is Belzhar by Meg Wolitzer!

Ok, I have one. It's about

Ok, I have one. It's about this man and an author comes up to him with this manuscript for a book thing, and the man says he'll publish it the next day. The author leaves him with these funny pictures of like seven chairs or a hole in the wall and stuff like that, but doesn't ever come back.

Mysteries of Harris Burdick

It's Mysteries of Harris Burdick by Chris Van Allsburg. Super fun. Also, they turned those pictures into a primp for well-known authors to write stories about and those were published separately as "The Chronicles of Harris Burdick"!

Please help me find this book

A middle school book.

The main characters are called Trash and Firegirl. They live in an orphanage run by the government.

Just a guess

Fearless by Tim Lott? It has several of the story elements.

dystopian medical thriller fiction

I have forgotten the name of a book about a 100% computerized medical center wherein a young (11 year-old) girl is mistakenly marked to have surgery except she wakes up and hides from the automatic sensors. The girl's (aunt) tries to find out what happened to her and there is also a man (detective/reporter?) who is slated for surgery but has questions about the computer's ability to operate. There is a 'bad guy' manipulating the computer, harvesting (organs) for the black market.

Hey! The book I've trying to

Hey! The book I've trying to remember is about the fact that you hace a perception of yourself, so you are that person you think, but other person will have other perception of you, and same for the rest of people in the world, so you are all that different persons. The tittle was something about that. Maybe something like "one, another one and a thousand more" (?) hahaha ^-^ Ahh the author is from Italy!! I don't remember his name neither u.u Thank you guys! c:

Help me please if anyone can

I read a book many years ago, the cover had a birdcage on it with a bird's skeleton inside it. It is about a mum and her kids who spend the night in their underground cavern, and they get up the next day to find everyone above-ground has vanished, only their belongings left behind, a bit like the Langoliers (But not). They meet up with others who had spent the night underground in bunkers, basements, etc. Has anyone read this book and know what its called?

Louis L'Amour's series: Sackett family

This sounds like Louis L'Amour's series on the Sackett family on the winning of the West & other early American history. There are 17 novels in the series of related books, they can be read in any order. The first one he wrote was _The Daybreakers_.

romance

This sounds like one of Stephanie Laurens' Cynster series. Possible the first one, Devils Bride. There is a cabin in the woods, and at the end the hero's relatives are betting on the date the baby was conceived, not born; and the child's mother makes them all pay their winnings to the local church.https://www.fantasticfiction.com/l/stephanie-laurens/cynster/

Hi, this could be 'Boys Don't

Hi, this could be 'Boys Don't Cry' by Malorie Blackman. A boy (Dante) has only slept with one person- his ex girlfriend. She left town about three months later and then showed up about a year after that with a six month old baby, asking him to mind her and then left again.

true story during war about a village with only women

I am looking for a book that I have only read the plot once from Wikipedia. All the men of a village have left to war, leaving the women and girls alone in a village. One day a foreign man came out of the blue to the village and the women promise each other that no one will be fall in love with him. This is a true story written by a young lady who fell in love with this man, but she never published it. She left a will that said she wants the novel will be published after 100 years from the incident by a woman of her family that is younger than 25 yr or something like that. I think that the novel became/will become a movie or tv show in 2018.

Possibly a short story, believed to be a hoax

https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%27Homme_semence Link is in French, you may have it translated. It matches your description of 100 years. But experts believe it is not a true story. There is a French movie as well.

Can anyone tell me the name

Can anyone tell me the name of the story where a worker messed everything up for his master by doing everything word for word. One time when the master asked him to oil a carriage or a machine, he put oil on the whole carriage making it slippery. Another time he screwed a party when he was told to put something in a cool place. It was a funny story and most probably had a Chinese setting. I read it when I was a kid and can not remember the name now. If anyone knows please help!

Looking for a forgotten title

Remembered a fantasy book with a female lead. She is from the shadow house. Supposed to be a magician. She cuts pieces of her shadow - so her shadow is all tattered and has holes in it. She fights for a house that hires her for some inter-house wars. Her love interest also fights in those house fights. Whichever house wins the house fights can make the rules of the world. Do you by any chance know the author/title?

We think this book is An Unkindness of Magicians by Kat Howard!

I feel that I know so much about this book, yet I cannot find it

I am looking for a young reader book published in the early 1990s (so not quite a children's book, but not a chapter book) that I feel confident has "Cat Walk" in the title - I think the difficulty finding it is that it has nothing to do with fashion! It is set in an imaginary, ancient Egyptian like setting, in which a human girl is being raised by a large grey anthropomorphized cat. A stranger comes to visit and gives the girl a map (I think?) and encourages the girl to go out and explore the world, the cat-mother says something along the lines that everyone must go on their own Cat Walk to discover themselves. So she does, and has adventures along the way, and in the end discovers she's grown up to be a beautiful human woman (and isn't some weird cat, like she thought she was). I think in the end she gets a new name. Any help?!?

I'm looking for a book about

I'm looking for a book about humankind in the future and on this planet the society is all blind and the wear white robes and pins that beep when they get close to something. It starts with the main person, a boy, is playing hide and seek in the school during class with these kids. There is this girl who is the daughter of one of the leaders and she wants to see but anyone who can see is killed. They are blind because the people who first settles on the planet thought seeing was sin or something. The girl who is the boy's friend runs away but the boy thinks the leader, her father killed her but he can't tell anyone and he doesn't know for sure. For some reason the boy is able to see and he learns that the leader can see as well and the leader and his mom are having an affair. And for some reason the boy steals peaches and hides them under his bed. At the end he runs away because the leader finds out he can see and wants to be the only one who can see and the boy disappers into a field. Help. It was a series but i only read the first book.

Looking for a book

In the late 50s, early 60s, I read a children's book about a donkey in Ireland that was ill-treated by its owners. I think his name was Barney. Can anyone help?

We think this book is Barney the Donkey by Anne Thomasine Casserley!

Looking for this book series

So this is vague as heck, but im looking for a young adult series where the female protagonists name starts with an X. If i remeber correctly she was a bit chubby with red hair, her best friend was a boy. Her mom was strict because she was or is in the military and her father is not all there in the head. Its sort of a fantasy adventure set in a fictional world.

Flora Segunda

Except for the main character's name starting with X, the other details match. Flora Segunda is the daughter of Buck Fyrdraaca, general of Califa, and Hotspur. Flora wants to be a ranger and have adventures but her mother definitely wants her to go into the army. Flora's best friend is Udo and she has a dog named Flynn. The Flora series is by Ysabeau Wilce and there are two more books.

Been looking for years

I've been looking for a short story about a man/boy finds a box filled with magic/tricks and uses some of them. In the end he uses one to shrink himself so he isn't seen and he accidentally gets stepped on.

Can't Remember this Book But it Meant a Lot to Me

There was a book written from the perspective of a little girl (i think around middle school) who felt really different from her parents and thought her parents were extremely boring. Her aunt, who is the mothers sister, visits and because the aunt knows the girl feels this way she is able to manipulate her into helping her steal things from her parents (or something like that)..

Book based on character name

Hello, can someone help me find the title of a book I read ages ago. I feel like the title had the word “paradise” in it but I could be wrong. It’s a romance novel and the male lead was named Ulysses.

I am looking for a book where

I am looking for a book where there is this one girl whose family is well of and her brother is the golden boy. He gets drunk and crashes into a kid so he goes to jail. Her mom treats it like its nothing and so she switches to a new school. She becomes friends with this girl whose family is very loving but not very rich. She likes the older brother and starts dating him but they don't tell anyone since they are afraid that his sister is going to get mad them. His ex-girlfriend had dumped him and hurt him. he used to be fat and chubby but lost all the weight and is now very fit. He is part of a band and they need to record their music so she lets him use her brothers' studio in her house. Her parents had agreed to this but when her brother got mad at her parents, they changed their mind and told she couldn't let them come. She still uses it but gets caught by her parents' friend who has a crush on her and is very creepy. In the end, she does go to visit the boy her brother hits. Oh, and she also helps her boyfriend on his rounds to deliver pizza. His family owns a pizzeria. I think the brothers name might be Jeffrey but I am not sure.

we think we know this book...

Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen!

I remember a lot of details but no names or the boom title.

The book is about a young girl who has finally come into her own. He mother died when she was young and doesn't have a lot of female influences. He next door neighbors have a mom but other words they're all boys...one of the boys next door is her best friend and durring the summer time his family runs a kind of water skiing resort that she helps out with. She has always had a crush on her best friends middle brother but he had never taken real notice in her until that summer. So all of the sudden there is a possibility that she and her best friends brother are going to become a thing until later in the end she decides that she would rather be with her best friend instead. When they were little she gave him a necklace out of a "gumball" machine and he still wears it long after it has made his skin turn green...he never takes it off......I remembered this book from Jr high only because there is a movie coming out now that is so similar to it called The Kissing Booth that is also based on a book of the same name.

we think we know this book...
