This is an update of a previous post by Sharon Rickson.

It can be tough to remember the title and author of a book you read a long time ago—even if it was a book that was really important to you. Fiction is cataloged by author and title, not by subject or plot line, which makes identifying books by just their storyline difficult.

Readers often ask librarians for help finding these kinds of books. And we can’t figure out the mystery every single time, but we do have a few tricks to help find the answer.

First, pin down everything you can remember about the book, plot, character names, time period in which the book may have been published, genre, etc. All these details are clues in identifying the title and author of the book.

Online resources can help with your search for a half-remembered book, even if all you have is a basic plot line. Searching yourself is a good place to start; then, you can post to a listserv or discussion forum, where someone might recognize it. Or, last but not least, leave a comment on this post!

Before You Start

Try Google! Type in everything you can remember about the book — as in, “picture book rabbi animals advice yiddish” — and scroll through the results. (That’s a real-life example of a book a patron was asking for: It Could Always Be Worse by Margot Zemach.)

You can also try googling one key detail you remember from a book. One of our librarians solved a book mystery by searching “USS You-Know-Who” — the name of a boat in the story that the patron happened to remember. (Another real-life example: She Flew No Flags by Joan Manley.)

The wizard children of finn

The wizard children of finn or the lost legend of finn maybe. I never read the books but have them on my bookshelf and it seems to fit

I’m not the original poster, but you helped me immensely

I’ve been looking for this book for about 20 years! Thank you for posting this, it’s the exact one I was looking for… the two details I remembered most was the kids coming back with lice and the boy having left his flashlight in the past. Thank you, thank you!!

Anyone have any idea what this book is?

I read this book a few years ago, but I can;t remember anything but a few obscure scenes. It's probably more geared towards people who are "middle school age", but I found it interesting nonetheless. The main protagonist is a girl whose father owns a very high-end cafe/restaurant/hotel, so they are quite rich. She also has lots of apartments -possibly hotel rooms- that each have a different "getaway" inside, such as an amusement park room, a beach room, etc. One scene has her meet a therapist she wanted to find -he had something to do with dentists and/or diamonds...- who, at the time, was meeting with a woman who had dreams of her "past life" as Joan of Arc. Another depicts two girls older than the protagonist getting in to the hotel/cafe, who had shaved off their eyebrows for a "Venetian-themed party". Hopefully this gives you enough information. I'm not even sure if this book exists anymore due to its elusivity.

Please help me find this book!

Hi everyone! I have been searching like crazy for this one book I borrowed from the school library over one summer. All I can remember from the book is that it’s this girl/woman and I think she lives in England. Her mother left her dad who has problems with alcohol and she blamed her mum. She was taking care of her dad and realised that he did have a lot of problems and wasn’t the fun dad like when she just visited. At the same time she was dating a guy and soon she realised he was also drinking a lot. I think she found him cheating with her friend. And I think it ended with that she fell for one of her friends. I think I read it the summer of 2010 or 2011 so it must be written before that. Grateful for all the help I can get!

I believe this is "Lucy

I believe this is "Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married" by Marian Keyes.

Magic powers, escape

The book is about a girl (princess?) with magic powers. The spell I remember: “pies and cakes and hot eel stew Tarts and breads and berries new Bring us lots of tasty food We’re in a hungry kind of mood.” This was said while the main character was escaping something (castle?) with a bunch of other people. I think at that point they were in a forest or woods. The spell was prefaced by something like, ‘I had used magic to help make food before, but I had never created food purely out of magic’ or something like that. The book was a children’s chapter book (no or minimal pictures) and was a historical setting I think. I’m pretty sure it’s a first person POV. In the end the main character marries someone I think. Any ideas? Other details that might help? Thanks!

No Place For Magic

Maybe _No Place For Magic_ by E.D. Baker?

I'm looking for a book

I read this book about four years ago, it was written by a particular 'Joyce' but can't remember her last name, it was about a particular girl that didn't like following the normal way of doing things who was in love with a married man that was about to divorce his wife. The cousin of this man and the almost divorced man didn't really see eye to eye, cant remember the reason, but the cousin felt the girl was stupid for loving the almost divorced man. I remember a part of the novel where she wore a very beautiful red gown but didn't have shoes to match them so she wore black slippers with the gown which the cousin noticed immediately.

Children’s magic book?

This is definitely a long shot, but when I was younger I know I read a book about a girl living in some weird dystopian future/alternate reality where all children had to wear these thin gold/silver chains and their caretakers has weird names like Cheerful and Optimism and stuff like that. I think she escapes somehow and runs away? I know there’s a bit with magic and a staircase that feels like you’re going down when you’re really going up instead or vice versa. I don’t remember anything else about it.

Phaze Split Infinity by Piers Anthony

What your describing sounds like one of the books out of the Phaze series. Im not sure which one of the series has that part in it but I put book #1 down in case you read one out of order. Piers Anthony is well known to use puns, colors, and feelings as characters. Someone else asked for the same exact series above. So I dont ruin it for you in case you didnt read the other books, Phaze is a planet that exists in two different planes. One of science, One of magic. The one of science is controlled by tirents called Citizens who have counter parts in the magical side called Adepts. The people are basically slaves of the citizens but work for a limited time in order to earn a share of protonite in which they can retire off of. Each person has a limited stay and each year there are contests to allow extended stay time or the grand prize of Citizenship. It may be the contest is every 4 years. Anyway, what you described sounds like a small part of the book and to give out more info would ruin it for you and others. I hope this helps.

Museum of Thieves by Lian Tanner!

I am looking for a book i

I am looking for a book i read when i was young. It's a young adult book. All I remember is a young girl or teen goes to stay with family at a big house, or castle. She goes out in the middle of the night in her nightgown to wander around the property and is on a cliff looking amongst everything, and i think there was water down below. Don't know if she was dreaming. Can't remember the rest.

is it Heidi a novel by Johanna Spyri

Somewhere in the middle of the book Heidi is taken to the city side ( having lived her whole life in the village) and she becomes so ill and homesick she begins sleep walking around the whole house

Children's book about a witch changing places with a girl

This is from the 80's, I read it in '82 I believe, and it had black ink drawings. A witch on a full moon night near Halloween "switched places" with a school girl - got to experience her life and the girl, hers. I remember nothing except she got into her room via a big branch and an open window. This is so little to go on but it has been driving me MAD! I loved it. Any help greatly appreciated.

can’t remember

I use to read all her books in middle school . It was a series and the books were sad , every book a kid had a disease or something wrong with them . I remember in one book the person got a heart transplant and caught feelings for the girl that the heart giver fell for , I need to know the author !

My wife and I are looking for a book we read years ago. In the book one of the storylines has one millionaire brother who likes to have sex with prostitutes that had been laid on a bed of ice and pretend to be dead. I know it sounds odd but that is the only thing we can remember about the book. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Book

Looking for a book I read about 15 year ago. About a young English writer who goes to house sitter on on her way to the house she picks up a hitch hiker in an old RCF uniform he get out at the house she was going to and disappears. She meets him again on the road and realizes he is a ghost and he is looking for the women he loves. As the book goes on the cottage is sold and the women the ghost is looking for buys the house. Looking for the name of the book it was a great story.

books

I am looking for a book that came out mid 80's to mid 90's. The book was about a boy who found a cave with creatures inside that had claws like razors. The eyes of the creatures were large and bulging. The also talked about people going missing in the boys town. I remember a passage from the book where the boy was laying in bed one night and seen glowing yellow eyes outside his window. When the boy woke the next day he found slash marks outside his window.

(Loremasters of Elundium, Book 1) by Mike Jefferies

This is one of my favorite series and knew the name but forgot the author which is Mike Jefferies. At the time when I had read the series, it was just a trilogy. But now that Im looking it up, seems Mike Jefferies added a few more so going to go buy the entire set now. The characters with the big eyes are slaves and never seen the light. They were captured by a demon type monster that lives in the darkness. There is a wizzard type of character with a rainbow cloak that fortells prophecy's and the claw marks are from one of the demons beasts who is after a boy who is supposed to unite the kingdom and bring all races and animals together once again for a final confrontation. The rainbow cloak wizard in my opinion is more like a god who doesnt interfere directly with anyone but at the same time helps with prophecy to get things into motion. Prime example of god like powers is the fact that when a king tried striking him, he passed a godlike edict that not only separated man from beast, all types of conversation between animals and man were no longer understandable.

The book you're describing

The book you're describing sounds like "Little Brothers" by Rick Hautala to me. The little brothers were what they called the creatures and derived from some Indian meaning.

I'm looking for a book that I

I'm looking for a book that I read 15 years ish ago. It's a romance novel set in Australia... one of the main characters is called John I think. The female protoginist falls in love with him but she ends up marrying his rival.. I think she perhaps falls pregnant and has to marry for the sake of her unborn child... I guess its a period novel? The rival has a cane... can't remember how he got injured!

we think we know this book...

More than One Night by Sarah Mayberry!

Please help me find this Fantasy/Romance Book!

Okay so I read this book a few years ago (no more than 5 I would think) and it's about this woman who is of unknown descent that doesn't remember anything but it a plaything for the gods. Two gods in particular torture her and follow her from island to island over several hundred (?) years. When the book really begins she stumbled upon a cave and feels drawn to it for some reason. Inside the cave are several (eight maybe?) statues of men. She touches one of them and they slowly come to life and break out of their stone coverings. They think she's a threat at first but soon realize that she freed them. She steps out of the cave and they see that she has scars all over her body. They say that they have a way to get off of the island (and the dimension I think) that she's in and back to the real world where they have a house set up. At one point, she grows wings or something and is dangerous and another god or warrior or something comes to the house where they are living and stays with them. He is either fate or death or some kind of big power that's supposed to win some kind of war. Also, I think she has a thing with one of the warrior guys that tries to fight it but can't. There's another point in the book where it's revealed that the reason she lost her memory is because she drank water from this leaf near a pond or something. She is the same kind of immortal/fantasy creature as the warriors are.

Anybody knows the book?

A friend told me about this book she read when she was a kid and we tried to find it in almost every way but couldn.t. So, it.s about a girl who lives in France l think, it.s during the war and the country is invaded by english. She fels im love by an english soldier who invites her on a "date" but he takes her to his friends and she is raped by all the soldiers. She gets pregnant, her parents try to make her do an abortion or lose the child by beating her or giving her pills and starving her but she has the baby anyway. To keep the baby out of the people.s sight, the baby boy is kept in thw house and raised in a smal and dark room next to his mother.s room. His only connection with the outside world being a small hole in the door. When he grew up he used to watch through that hole and spying on his mother,he fels in love with her. Don t know exactly what happens next but he ends up to one of his aunts who thinks she may educate him...even if he was a savage, but she can.t and ge.s taken to a nental hospital. In the end he escapes from that hospital and starts looking for his mother. He ends up killing her and taking his own life too. One other thing is that the kids grandparents where bakers but he never tasted bread.

I don’t know the name of the book

But I definitely want to read it just based on your description!

Teen drama??

I read this book when i was about 11 years old, and I didn’t finish reading it since I had to return it to the library to check out the books I needed for class. Anyways, the book was about two best friends who always hated a club of girls where in order to get in you had to be a certain age (I believe 13?) well the two girls talk about how they’re never joining it, but as soon as one of them turns that certain age she joins. They stop talking and then bump into each other at the grocery store in the cereal isle. The girl who is now in the club is getting some Froot Loops, while the other one thinks/ remembers how they use to say that it tasted like cardboard and that they hated that cereal (that was just because the girls in the club liked that cereal). That’s all I can actually remember which is not much i know, though I think that at the beginning of the book they also said they played in the bushes with their dolls? But I’m not sure at all. I think the cover was of two girls laying down on the grass with something in the middle of them, for sure the title, but idk if there was a cake or something else.

Lost Book

I’ve read this book in middle school, quite a few times. I’ve tried to look it up before, and I found it once, but I somehow forgot it again. I remember some parts of the cover, a boy and wolves running, or maybe sitting or walking, in the snow with trees surrounding them, the sky is blue I believe. It’s about a homeless boy, or maybe orphaned, in the streets and he finds wolves, quite a few, I believe one of them was very old, and one of them was pregnant maybe or just gave birth. Later on in the book, the boy gets sausages and feeds them all. Throughout the book, the boy lived with the wolves and they were family, he also learned how to steal and/or beg. Another part happens in a hospital I believe, he was so much like the wolves he snarled, maybe bit, at someone at the hospital, later on he ran away or was released and I believe he found the wolves, or maybe they left him. I don’t remember it that much really, but I want to, so whoever knows this book, please let me know.

Movie is called Moonraker. James's Bond 007 series.

Sometimes a book is made into a movie, and though the movie is a blockbuster, the book that spawned it is horribly mangled so it will sell in many other countries without hopefully offending any of them. The changes from book to movie are so much, that there is not much of the story left in tact with the movie. This story is a prime example of this happening. Anyway, the title of the book , the agents name and organization they work for were completely changed for the movie and Ill have to get back on the actual books name and author as I need to contact my old teacher who read the book to my 2nd grade class. The book she read to us and had us read back had its front and back covers gone and she would read a page then pass the book to the next student who read the next page and passed it to the next student. I remember it well because we never got to finish the book due to the fact the movie came out and the teacher took the entire class to go see Moonraker. After the movie, our teacher said the same thing I did above, about how books and movies get messed up. Id say give me a week and ill be back with the book info, but until then, watch the movie if you want. It wont ruin the book for you.

too hot to handle permabook By Ian Fleming

Didn't take as long as I thought. I always add time to my projections, thats how everyone perceives me as a miracle worker. (Borrowed from star trek) Anyway, the book your looking for is called too hot to handle the publisher permabook. The movie rewrite version is called Moonraker. I also found out why my teachers book was so mangled. Turns out she got the book when she was a kid and back then unlike society today, anything remotely adult/sexual was highly mojo. When her parents caught her with the book they took it from her but because money was scarce as well they didnt want to trash the book either so they took the front cover and back of book off and removed several pages they felt were not meant for a young reader. Makes me want to go buy the book now. I wish this website had a forums, as it would be nice to know if anything I replied to here helped.

I think this has to be the Alex Rider series.

Sci Fi Comedy book about Humans being outlawed

A friend told me about a book he read years ago that was hilarious, but can't remember the name. It's about a guy who works at area 51 and accidentally gets in an alien space ship that autopilots to different planets. Every chapter starts with him doing something mundane like dumping the waste system before taking off again, but it always ends up destroying the planet. So the entire galaxy outlaw humans and destroy earth. One warlord kept a human alive and they are the most feared species in the galaxy, because they think they have terrible weapons and everything they do has to do with war. Except the guy was simply, accidentally causing these disasters. One scene in the book had an alien coming across the human playing a clarinet, and reported back,. "He had a weapon, and it was making a horrible screeching noise". Does anyone know what book this was, it was written almost in a monty python type humor. Thanks.

That Title!

I am dying out here, trying to remember the book title! Help, please. It was about a teenage girl whose parents died hunting recently, I think. She was all alone until a guy came who claimed to be her cousin, Harry?, but he wasn't. He fell for her and she for him but... And she met this other boy who she doesn't know is a demon or a demon prince, or something. It's a series, more than one volume. If ANYONE remembers a title or the author, or some more info that could help me find it, please, reply. Thanks!

Demons dont dream by Piers Anthony a Xanth Novel

Your the third person here to request one of Piers Anthony's books. The Xanth series is a huge series that has never ended and most likely wont due to its popularity. I have to catch up on a lot of his books but for now, the one your describing sounds exactly like Demons dont dream. Dont worry about reading out of order. Each book has a new set of main characters, and ones prior grow up by next book and move on.

Help me find this book please

I have been looking for a book with a bunch of ice on the cover. I don’t rememwmber much the people were like hiding from something and I think the dad was a king or at least head of the people and they may have had a castle. The most accurate thing I can remember is that some of the chapters are written in second person and in the beginning there was a note written by one of the characters to someone else about something.

It could potentially be one

It could potentially be one of the books in the throne of glass series by Sarah J Maas..? It’s been a long time since I’ve read them unfortunately so can’t be sure..

I NEED A MIRACLE

I have 2 paperback romance novels I have tried to find for years....the first I lost during a move back in 2002. I believe it was titled Sisters of the South of something to that effect. It was about sisters that were married off, one to a cousin and the other to a plantation owner, I believe, in South America. I think he was already married but his wife was crazy or something and tried to kill the baby the new wife had with him? The other I believe was titled Angeline. I recieved it as a Christmas gift, I believe, in 1991 but, let a friend borrow it and never saw it again. It was about a young school teacher that, I believe, was sent to open a school or take over a school somewhere back in pioneer times.

we have a guess

Childrens book from 80's

A favorite aunt hosts a sleepover for her nephews and nieces. They try on costumes, find the cat who has kittens and in general have a splendid time with their aunt who is single. Seems the author's name might be a single word starting with A, not positive about that. Thanks. I think the title includes the aunt's name.

we think this might be...

Aunt Nina, Goodnight (this is a 1989 book by Franz Brandenberg, but the illustrator's name is Aliki!)

Can't remember name

THe book I am looking for I read nearly 15 years ago. THe opening is a girl being killed with her screams added to a song the man is making. WHen he is done he plays it and it melts the sound system opening a rift that allows a creature through who seeks revenge against him and against essentially everyone who has done anything bad. She pulls them into a world that is sickly and polluted looking before killing them. There is a corrupt cop who gets killed.

I KNOW THAT ONE!

That's "Angel of Darkness" by Samuel M. Key (Charles de Lint writing under a pseudonym)

What's the title of this book;

I don't remember everything very well, but there was a guy, his sister and his best friend living in the same house , the three of them alone, the girl breaks up with boyfriend because she wasn't good in bed and so asks the brother's best friend to teach her. The guy then applies for a scholarship and wins it. The girl always helped him read. They also had a neighbour called Hailey. They could also go n visit their parents once in a while.

Help me find this book!

OK, so I don't know the title or the author of the book, but I think the male protagonist's name was Adam (although, I'm not sure!). He is from a rich family of a small town and is bestfriends with a poor girl who lives in the trailer park (Femail Protagonist) with her grandmother, I think. So these two fall in love, but enter the Mean Girl. She is from an affluent family as well and the guy's mother likes her a lot, whereas she despises the poor FP. Their's also the MP's grandmother who is very sweet and totally ships FP and MP. The FP is raped by a police officer who is investigating her grandmother's death. The MP couldn't save her because of his Mother (she's evil, by the way). So, anyway, stuff happens, and then they meet years later when MP's grandmother dies. Well, as you would have it, secrets unravel and all is out in the open, but the MP is still under the thumb of his mother and the his fiancée (The Mean Girl!). So now they have to overcome it all somehow to come together, because true love! Please help me find the book with this story line, I've been searching high and low for it with no results. Please help!

Vintage children’s book with kittens

I only remember that this book was illustrated by black line drawing. It had a little girl and kittens. It was very hippy-esque with lots of flowers. I remember that the way the illustrator drew the girl’s hair made it look like spaghetti. I wish I could remember more. I keep dreaming about this book and I’m desperately hoping you can help me!

seamstress turned Paris fashion designer, builds empire

This is a long shot, since

This is a long shot, since many novels likely have this plot, but it may be "Banners of Silk" by Rosalind Laker. It was originally published in 1981, but I read a copy in the mid-1990s, so they were still easy to find in libraries then. Laker's books have been re-published as e-books now.

I can't remember the name of this good book

I read this as a paperback several years ago. It was a very good read, and wish I could remember it to recommend to my friends. Subject matter was as follows, happily married female cave explorer, gave up an illegitimate baby girl in her youth. She has another daughter with husband. Many years later unwanted girl comes into her mother's life, unbeknownst to the mother. The unwanted girl kills the woman's husband and daughter to have her mother all to herself. Later when her mother realizes that it's her illegitimate daughter who has murdered her family, she takes the girl cave exploring to leave her there to die. The cave is rigged so they can't get out. In the end, the mother, who I think was dying with cancer, decides to stay there in the cave to die with her first born. A sad ending, but good read.

YA Sci-fi?

As long as memory serves me correctly, the story was about a young boy genius who went off to college. His roommate was another young boy like himself. He would often skip class at the college to go to the computer lab. Where he would write up program for a game. It would print out a readout of the game and the progression within the game set in a distant planet. I believe the name of the kids friend was a Wurm. Spelled with a u and not an o. I believe the book was written between 1970 and 2000. It was set in a time when computers would give printouts. The college setting was either MIT or a similar College Style. I don't recall if the author or publisher was Sandy or contained sand and its name. I never finished the book and would love to find it to finish it.

we think this might be...

Gadget Factor by Sandy Landsman!

YES!!

Thank you so much!! The book "Gadget Factor by Sandy Landsman" is the one for which I've been searching for over 15 Years! Thank you.

What's the title of this book - God in in the title somewhere

This story starts off with a little girl telling the story and it expands over 3 generations. The girl is a pretty black girl with long hair (it's set back in the early 1900's). I think the book came out early 2000's and it's by a black author. The girl is married off when she's a teenager and she's telling the whole story. This book end when the girl is like in her 60's or so, she's a grandmother. Cant remember a lot but the book was a page turner and drama filled.

Very likely "Their Eyes Were Watching God" though that book is from the 1920s or 30s and Janie has no children or grandchildren. She tells her whole life story to her friend and her long black hair is often referred to. I had to read this for school.

I read this book a looooong

I read this book a looooong time ago. It was about this boy who I believe lives at a beach or visiting for the summer by a beach. He makes friends around the area whom are all great swimmers. The main character meets a girl whom he has a crush on. He’s shy around her but sooner or later starts talking to her. One scene in particular was that his friends all swam into the ocean to hang out (I believe) but the boy wasn’t a great swimmer. The girl convinced him to swim but unfortunately he started drowning. Towards the end of the book, the boy and the girl crush are on a mountain where they kiss I believe and they both jump off the cliff. Luckily the boy survived whom wakes up in a hospital recovering from a coma. He asks about the girl but they don’t know who he was talking about. They also said how he swam by himself (with no girl encouraging or even there to begin with!) that the girl was all imaginary. Help me find this book! Please

Message hidden in candlestick that has to be twisted according t

I'm looking for a book that I read in 1994. It was the kind of physical paperback style that I associate with cheesy romances. It had to do with a mystery, and a message that was hidden in a candlestick that was generations old. The secret compartment in the candlestick was opened when a woman remembered an very old traditional song and twisted the candlestick according to those notes. There was something about jungian psychology in there and generational memory being passed down subconsciously

Some sort of demon book?

I remember there being a book in the family and when I was young I was fascinated by it (I don’t think I was supposed to read it tbf). It seemed a biggish book with grey sketches of demons and angels on it and inside the cover was a picture of a face looking into a broken mirror. I have no idea what the content was because I think it was before I could read. 1970’s time. Anyone enlighten me?

I am looking for a SHORT STORY

The short story is an old one - I thought it was Graham Greene but it might be Dorothy Parker or even Colette. Or ?? I knew it so well I can't believe I have forgotten who wrote it. It's about a newlywed couple, so happy, coming back to their home, and finding the fire lit and a supper waiting for them, and a note from the husband's ex-girlfriend written to the new wife. A very sweet-seeming letter about how she knew how cold the cottage could get and so she wanted to be sure they were comfortable on their return...and then they found more letters from the ex-girlfriend in the house -- very passive-aggressive but the wife thought they were sweet and the husband got more and more upset. The idea was that the ex-girlfriend was inserting herself into the marriage and successfully damaging it, while APPEARING to be super-kind and sweet. I'm going mad trying to figure this out! Thanks for any help.

Please Help Me Find This Book

I read this book when I was in around the 6th grade (i’m 24 now). It was about a boy and a girl who were somehow supernaturally connected by fate. There might have been aliens involved, or at least something involving space. Though, the setting was always in some simple locations on Earth. I think they were born at the exact same time when some cosmic event occurred. They had never met but then do meet by the end. I remember it making me sad.

Looking for this book.

Hi, I read a book in 1970's possibly 80's about an Australian naval patrol boat in 1945 near the end of ww2, it was looking for some action before the war ended and was cruising around the coast of New Guineau and North Eastern Australia. Charactors I remember are Lt.Commander Cordeau, Lt Beech, and Zola the stoker. There was another Lieutenant who was the bad guy, but I can't remember his name. They capture an Italian submarine and its first officer who has a sea chest with him and when opened has about a million pounds in cash. The bad guy gives the Italian a drink and poisons him dead. He then shoots Lt, commander Cordeau and leaves him dying and takes Lt. Beech hostage in a jeep at gunpoint. He then lets him go and as he drives off he throws the gun at Beech but it is empty. I don' t know the author, but I think the book was called "Dead mans chest" or similar. I have been looking for years but can't find it !. Wonder if anyone recognizes it ?. Mzny thanks John

we found an answer for you...

We think the author is J.E. Macdonnell! We're pretty sure this particular title is Fire Storm, but it may be another one of his books.

Looking for a book title

Looking for a book when I was a teenager. The book was about a woman and a man and possibly a second man. The story line was that they were some kind of adventurers, possibly journalists or photographers or something else. They traveled to different parts of the world. I seem to remember the title as something like 'When Friends Were Lovers' When Lovers Were Friends'. At the end of the book the woman was married, had children and a white picket fence, but was not married to either of the men. The book was a paperback. The time frame for me reading the book was in the 1960s kr possibly the late 1950s. Thanks for any help.

Children’s book of stories fiction

There’s this book about a princess who can never look into a mirror. Her parents took away all the mirrors in the castle and the only way she’s ever seen herself is through portraits. She is the most beautiful person alive but she wants to see her reflection so she gets a piece of a broken mirror and her reflection is nothing. So she runs away into the woods where she’s finds a witch who says she can make her have a reflection all she has to do is pick her parts. So she picks two different colored eyes and parts that don’t match. But she can look into the mirror. That’s all I can remember other than it’s in a book of stories and on the cover there was a lavender background with a street lamp and a black cat. Please help!

I am looking for a book about

I am looking for a book about an alien abduction. I don't remember how it all happens but the scene I remember is a woman and an alien being abducted by another alien race and being held captive in a sort of tent. They are given food to eat but the alien insists on not eating and starving to death. The alien captors get wind of this and force the two to eat. The alien captive insists that she and the human throw up the food (and bury the vomit to hide it from the captors). Then they are "rescued" by the alien captive's "tribe" by being beamed up to the alien ship. The alien captive's arm is stuck or being held by one of the alien captor's "tribe" so the human holds the alien's body and steps into the beam and is beamed up. The alien loses her arm. That is mainly what I remember. Does anyone know this book??

Invader Zim Abducted episode.

Its funny how cartoons make fun of great artists and movies like Goodfeathers from goodfellas as an example. Invader Zim is no exception. Im still trying to find the name.of the book the author made the spoof from, but if your interested in some dry humor, watch Invader Zim Abducted episode. The uncut version has a lot of what you mentioned in regards to both human and alien being abducted.

Looking for a book

I read a book for my English Oral exam back in 1986 (UK). Paperback. It was about a man seeking to find out the truth about whether his friend had committed suicide or had been murdered by his wife. It was set in America on a lake - at one point he kills a young man who he believes had a role in his friends death, and stuffs his body into a cave only accessible underwater. This takes place in the winter. His relationship breaks down over his obsession with finding the answer. There is a convict involved who ends up murdering the wife at the end and then reveals that he was present when the friend died - "Did I pull the trigger or did he?" Then he shows the man how it was done, and the question is then did the man kill the convict, or did the convict commit suicide? I have tried search engines with no luck.

What is the title of this book?

A woman started a weight loss program/company, much like Weight Watchers. It was a great success, but then she lost it somehow, or was in danger of losing it, or going bankrupt. The woman's name was Cynthia. I think a man tried to take control of it financially or threatened her. It was a fiction novel from the 60s or early 70s. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Please help me find a fairy tale

This isn’t a book but I was hoping someone could help me find a fairy tale I once read. It started out where the king and his friend the high chancellor were assassinated so the throne could be taken over. The queen and the chancellor’s wife (who were also friends) escaped from the coup and ran away to live in a hut in the woods to protect themselves. They were both pregnant, and soon they each gave birth to a son. They raised the boys as brothers and they looked so similar anyone else would have thought they were twins. When the boys grew up they decided to seek their fortunes so they left their mothers and went into the world together. They came to a fork in the road and they decided to split up. My memory gets a little fuzzy from there but I remember that they each got something that would change color when the other was injured or dead so the other would know to avenge them. Or it could have been that they promised to return the the crossroads and cut a nearby tree, and the color of the sap would tell them what had happened to the other. But either way, one boy finds out that the other has died (killed by a witch I think) so he sets out to avenge him. He passes through a kingdom and is taken to the palace where they all mistake him for the king of the land (the king was really the dead friend by they look so similar not even his wife can tell them apart). The queen tells him she was so worried because he went into the forest a few days ago and hasn’t returned until now, and the boy deduces that his friend died in the woods. So he goes into the woods, ends up getting the witch to bring his friend back to life, and they both return the palace and explain everything, and it all ends happily ever after. I’ve looked for this fairy tale and I can’t find it anywhere online, but I don’t think I could make the whole plot up! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The Fearless series by Francine Pascal!

A mystery book set in England

It takes place in a remote English? village. A girl disappears. All evidence points to a husband, who maintains his innocence. The villagers defend him, but let loose details that make him guilty. Years pass. A detective? comes to the village - photographs are found that prove the man was taking pictures of girls. In a weird twist, the girl who was supposed to have been murdered returns home. Fascinating book. Any ideas??

Sounds like A Place of

Sounds like A Place of Execution by Val McDermid. The villagers learned that the girl’s stepfather was a pedophile who abused and photographed many of the village children. In revenge, several families conspired to set him up for the girl’s murder, for which he was ultimately executed, although her body was never found. The missing girl became a journalist, who years later interviews the detective about his most famous case: her own disappearance/“murder.” I can’t remember why she didn’t know her true identity.

Lost children’s book.

Please Help Me Find This Book

I read a book a long time ago about a writer in England who has a daughter. Him and his wife separated and he is trying to get his life together. He receives a letter from n anonymous person saying that he has to write a book about a killing spree the man is about to embark on. The person threatens his family in order to get him to write the book. But the person starts to kill people, I beleive based off the Bible and each victim is killed in a grotesque way and has a message left inside of the bodies. But the writer has to go to watch crime scene so that the book has details even the public wouldn't know about which ends up going against him because the police soon think he's involved in the murders. The book cover is all white with blood drops coming down from what I remember.

Children's book search

Trying to remember the name of a children's picture book about a boy and his dog that get lost overnight and they sleep together in an abandoned house. The book is targeted to children about ages 3 - 8, and I used to read it to our children in the late 1990's. Thanks!

Please help

Last night I had a dream of which I'm SURE it's the content of a book I read and loved one or two years ago, but I can't remember the title or the character names (though I know I knew them in the dream). I think that the dream was about the 2nd book of a trilogy or something, but I'm not sure. It's about a teenage girl who lives with her little sister at her grandparent's house (furniture and all seemed very expensive). Her best friend is a little crazy, but an adorable girl. In my dream, the girl was sitting with some kids from elementary school or something around a campfire on a field and told them a story, leading to the fact that she had prepared a huge torch and something like a "satanic spell" to chase away the fears of the children. Before she could light the torch, her grandparents showed up and stopped her because "it could be dangerous for her to summon demons" or something and sent her home. (That's only a little unnecessary detail I remember...) That part reminded me of Supernatural. The mother of the girl was too busy to raise her children so they lived witch their grandparents. As a punishment for her reckless act, her granny said she has to go with her mother, but she said she wouldn't go and her best friend showed up, taking her to the pool. I know, that's weird, and now - writing it down - I don't even think that could be a book anymore... but if anyone has an idea, I'll be lucky! PS: She said something about "hearing her thoughts very weird AGAIN" so I had in mind that it was the 2nd part of a book + it had a change in the narrative perspective ("I" to "her") PPS: Sorry for my English...

looking for a novel based on reincarnation

I'm looking for the name of an author/novels that i read in the 1970's. the books were based on reincarnation. One was about a young girl who "remembered" a previous life and actually decorated her doll's house exactly like her home in her previous life. her husband finds her and is then accused of pedophilia as she is a child. (No it isnt Audrey Rose). another novel was about a young woman who had weird dreams about life in the "wild west" where she seemed to be a whore. she visits an old inn and finds a portrait of herself on the wall. it turns out it was an ancestor of hers. there may have been more books but these 2 storylines stick in my head. I would love to find out the author's name and see if there are any more books in a similar vein

1980-ish Young Adult/ Teen Novel - need help finding title

I'm looking for a book I read sometime in the early 1980s or so. It was a teen novel about a girl and her MALE best friend who run away to the wilderness together. At some point they must cross a dangerous river/waterfall and they end up back in a very secluded place where no one can really easily find them because of that particular waterfall/river gorge/whatever. They fend for themselves well for a while but eventually become romantically involved, and the girl freaks out about the possibility of getting pregnant in that isolated environment and decides to leave. The boy decides to stay behind, and says "you know where to find me". His name MIGHT have been Dane but I'm not sure. Anyone recognize it?

suspense novel - late 80's - early 90's

Looking for a book about a group of college friends (now late into adulthood) who meet up - one has died. The story is told from varying points of view - one from the murderer and one from a wife. A wife of one of the men begins putting together clues and starts to realize it's one of the friends who might be the murderer. The murderer realizes that an old paralyzed woman may have seen him drown someone out her bedroom window - he then sneaks in and smothers her. I have been looking for this book for ages!

Could it be the book Hindsight: A Novel of the Class of 1972 by Barbara Rogan? The plot is somewhat similar.

I think they ended up traveling together.

Not sure if it was a book or a dream.

This one has bugged me for a while. I can't remember if it's a dream I had or a great book I read. The particular criminal it followed was put into a five legged spider type creature and had to try and survive as that species.

Periodical article that I think was an overview of a book

Sometime between 2000 and 2004, I stumbled across a magazine article about the birth of the FBI - the very beginning, when the Bureau was still called the Bureau of Investigation, and was run by former PIs and taxmen and otherwise colorful characters. I distinctly remember reading the article in a magazine - and I used to think it was a Smithsonian magazine, but have since totally failed to track it down - but then, after I put the magazine aside to come back to later, I never could find it again. I also think the article might have been written by an author who had a full length book about the subject, a book which I also searched for and completely failed to find online. Please help me find it! Thank you!

Help me find a copy of an old Literary Cavalcade

I am looking for a copy of Literary Cavalcade that includes A Child's Christmas in Wales. It was printed like a play. My family used to read it every Christmas with each of us reading the parts. I have searched online but with no luck. Any ideas? I would love to have it again to read with my mom, brothers, sister-in-law, and niece and nephew.

Wow, that's specific!! I can help a little....

Insanely enough, I own that copy. It's the first Dylan Thomas I ever read. I remember there's a portrait of him on the cover (not the usual black and white photograph but a chalk? oil? portrait with yellowish tones in the background), and A Child's Christmas In Wales is definitely inside. While I'm not willing to let go of my copy (sorry) I can verify that that issue of Literary Cavalcade HAS to be from before 1994 (probably between 1989 and 1993), since my teacher had new copies sitting around when I was in junior high. If you don't end up being super attached to that particular edition, there are a few hardcover printings of just A Child's Christmas In Wales available online. There are some very nice audio recordings as well--Thomas himself reading it, plus Fern Hill and a few others of his poems. I hope you find what you're looking for!

I read it a lot when I was younger, but this was many years ago. Thanks!!

Please help me find this book!

Dear Librarians: I'm looking for a book that I don't remember the title or author to. It was perhaps 1968 when I found it, so that could rule out some later books. It was a children's book, maybe 4th grade up or middle grades? I would classify it as Fantasy. The cover had a distinctive image on it of one or more evil beings depicted by circular cylindrical scribbles like a small whirlwind. The children in the book unwittingly step into a (shifting?) spot that takes them to a fantasy world with inimical beings that are a threat coming out to our world. Obviously, no adults would take this threat seriously, and the children must deal with it on their own. I believe there's a girl protagonist, and a boy, maybe more than two. I don't recall whether the kids are related or friends or a combination. I think the book might be vaguely reminiscent of A Wrinkle in Time, minus the religious aspects. I hope you can help me! It was a good book, which I reread a few times, but even back then, I kept forgetting the title and author and losing track of it.

Lost Book

I am looking for a children's book. It was absolutely published before 1980. The author's name is at the beginning of the alphabet because I found the book when I was trying to read all of the books in the library and started with the A's. I thought it might be Mabel Esther Allen, but I can't find enough that have a synopsis to be certain. The book was written for about 9-13 years old. A girl, for some reason, has to live with her uncle. There is a male cousin there who is about the same age as she, possibly slightly older. They are probably about 13-17 years old. They are walking down a staircase toward a painting when they are suddenly in the painting. They have many adventures, not a single one of which I can remember, and then they find themselves back on the staircase and continue walking down. The book has struck me for a long time because when it ended you still didn't know if it all had really happened. We moved in 1980, and I checked it out in my hometown library, so I know it had to be published before then. My library removed all dust jackets, so I have no details about the cover. It is not by C.S. Lewis, which is the suggestion I most often get. Any help would be appreciated!

Help identifying book of advice from father to son

I would like help identifying a book. It was written maybe 30 years ago by a father giving his son a list of what today are referred to as life hacks as the son set off for either college or his first job. One set of advice was to buy the most house he could afford and the least car he could get away with buying – and still meet his needs. I believe the book became a best seller and may have been entitled something like, A Father's list of 100 life tips for my son as he goes off to college. If you can help me ID it I will be so grateful.

I read on Atlas Obscura how ya'll are experts at finding books that people cannot remember the name of. I had a book as a child (I think late elementary-early-middle-school-age, I was born in 1983) that I loved. I read it over and over and over. I think it might have been a Scholastic book. It was a novel with no pictures. The plot was centered around a boy who was able to travel instantly to another planet or space station by being uploaded into an android there. I believe that it looked like him. It might've had something to do with a family member that was working there, an aunt or uncle or something. I remember it wasn't what it seemed, but that's about all I can muster. I wish I could've kept it, unfortunately the foster system doesn't let you hang on to many things when you get moved around. Now that my own son is 9 and is also a sci-fi fan, I am hoping he can enjoy it as much as I did. Thank you so much for all your help!!! What a great service this is that ya'll are providing! Thank you, John Smith Zachary, Louisiana

I can see this book in my mind ... but can't remember the title

Hello. This is a long shot, but I've asked Google, all my reader friends, local librarians, Facebook, etc., and no one has been able to help me yet. I'm looking for a novel that I found in the attic and started reading as a teenager, decades ago. Of it I can remember only that it was a fat book, deckle-edged with red boards and no cover, and that it consisted entirely of dialogue between two characters, presented not in quotes but as one character's name followed by a colon, and then the other character's name behind a colon followed by a large block of text ... back and forth. All of the novel's action was conveyed this way. The font was tall with serifs, rather like Bookman Old Style but more condensed. I lost track of the book along the way and have been searching for it for decades. Thanks for any help.
There was an author who wrote (at least) 5 Westerns, all available in the '70s or thereabout in mass market paperback (and of no great age) -- perhaps these were recent reprints. Male (pen-)name, since forgotten. They were rather more literary than genre in character, and garnered reviews from the mainstream trade. One of them, in particular, was a resetting of the complete Oedipus story in the "wild West" (barmaids, gunmen, etc.). I read them all, but it was a long time ago. It's not one of the obvious suspects: Cormac McCarthy, Zane Gray, Louis L'Amour, etc. These 5 books may be all the mystery author wrote -- I certainly couldn't find any others at the time.

How to find a book

A very good friend of mine and i became friends spurred by our love for a book we had both just read. Over the years we have forgotten the book, but both of us would love to read it again. Our recollection is pretty vague but there was a man (and a women at some point in the plot) traveling/living in different places including an island and there was magical realism going on where the place (and possibly time) shifted. I remember the cover being dark blue with stars. Ant ideas Thanks

woman in Sicily teaches cooking classes, recipes are in the book

I read a book once and cannot remember what the title or author was! It was, I believe,  Fiction/Novel ..about a woman who moved to Sicily and gives cooking lessons to small groups of friends in her kitchen, using her grandmother's recipes. The unique thing about the book is that the author includes the recipes that the main character is teaching/cooking throughout the book. She make a White Bolognese sauce that I recall, and I believe a simple fennel and orange salad. That is all I can remember. I copied a couple of the recipes when I read the book, but have moved overseas since and lost the copies. Thanks to anyone who can help me!

have been trying to find a

have been trying to find a book, I believe I read it in the 90's.. it starts with anthropologist finding the remains of the man who seemed to have sealed himself alive in a cave.. soon the researchers are infected with an unknown virus. When the viral load in their blood reaches a certain level, the virus begins communicating with them. It has a hive mind, and it states that they created all our childhood diseases to strengthen human bodies to be able to become hosts for this intelligent virus.. and that's about all I can remember, I can tell you it's not Darwin's Radio by Greg Bear, but it reads very similar in style to Greg Bear... I have tried friends, family, and Reddit, I'm beginning to wonder if it even exists.. and help would be so appreciated ;) thank you!

I'm looking for a middle

I'm looking for a middle grade book I read with the last 5 years. The boy's parents are missing (possibly at sea, by pirates). He isn't allowed outside (maybe the same people are coming for him). He befriends the neighbor girl. There are stuffed animals (taxidermy) in his new home. I think there is a walled garden.

Help!!

Okay a very vague description but here goes... It’s a blue book and it is about a teenager boy who’s father is having an affair. The boy has a best friend who “gets all the ladies.” I believe the mistress ends up having a baby so the boy kidnaps him. He also falls in love with this girl who goes to a Catholic school. I need help ! Thank you

About a young girl who has been brutally traumatised and manipu

I read a free sample on Google Play Books and was unable to purchase it at the time. Phone broke and am unable to retrieve account for some reason. So the story was about a girl preteen to early teen who had called the police on her mother and was taken out of the home. I The story was told as the girl was placed with a psychiatrist and his wife and daughter and the girl would have flashbacks of events and conversations with her mother. I think the girls name was Anna... not too sure. From what I gathered the mother had been murdering young children for years and the girl knew and was forced to keep quiet, the mother being very manipulative and abusive. As the girl is placed with th a doctor who seems to have a dysfunctional family life she is enrolled in the dr.s daughters school. The daughter doesn't know the girl is the girl from the very published story of the murderous mother, but thinks her a weirdo nonetheless who by the way is getting all the attention at the moment. The daughter enlists her friends at school to be really mean to the girl. Then the girl sees someone who doesn't fit in with the other girls and approaches her. But the girl is unresponsive to any type of friendship... so far. I also remember the dr. was trying to prepare the girl (Anna?) for the upcoming trial of the mother. I had d this book sample under Urban Fiction on Google Play books. I really really want to read it in its entirety if only I could find out the title/author!!! A long description I know... can someone help please!!!

Good Me Bad Me, read this

Good Me Bad Me, read this when I was a bit too young? I never got around to finishing it because it seemed so horrifying but the plot was very interesting.

Help me find this book I read in elementary school around 2010

This girl is orphaned I think and lives in a scary room in a home where nobody loves her, then she gets scared because she sees a shadow in the form of a boy. Eventually they become friends and go on an adventure to restore light back into the world (nobody has seen sunshine for years). There is a mean woman that they find out is named Gretel I think? Also they use these ashes in a box that have some type of magic. The boy takes her to see his shadow world too and it’s super trippy but she can’t stay for long. I remember loving this book and the concept of the kind ghost and the afterlife place that has crazy dimensions. If anybody knows what I’m thinking of that would make my day!! Also this may be totally wrong but I think there’s another thing with potatoes bc that’s the only plant they can grow in the cloudy world (i might just be thinking of the city of ember).

This book could be Ravishing the Heiress by Sherry Thomas. It's the 2nd book in the FitzHugh trilogy. The Earl's first love returns as a widow with two young children, and wants to set up a household with the Earl. Going crazy, cant find this book

Hi! I have been trying to find this book I read I think 4 years ago. I dont remember the cover or the author but the book was about a girl who lives with her uncle, she goes to a bar with friends and meets a boy by the docks. She has powers or something like that, she goes to a special school where this boy is a warrior and she meets a girl who wants to be just as badass as he is. Along the story she befriends two hellhounds who are at the school on a cell and she brings them food. There is something else there she gives food to and later finds out its a dragon who saves her in a fight. The boy is her soulmate and during a fight where she and her friend are involved he arrives late a growls at everyone but her and she is told to go to him and just let him hold her. Later they ask her if they did something because of his behavior and she says they only kissed once in the infirmary..... if anyone knows the name the book help! I want to buy it and cant find it anywhere :) thanks!

I read this book when I was

I read this book when I was so young I can’t remember the title or any characters in it but I remember the plot. It is a story about best friends but both are envious with each other’s life. Then they heard about this legend about a wall that if 2 people crossed that wall, their bodies will be switched. So they agreed to do it and it worked. But after the switch, the first person got home (her bestfriend’s home) and learned that her bestfriend’s family was murdered and her bestfriend is the prime suspect and since she became her bestfriend (physically), she tried to hide. Until she remembered her bestfriend’s favourite place (I think it’s her bestfriend’s gradparents’ barn) and hid there. But the police found her and arrested her. While she’s on their patrol car, it all came to her that the switching was all her hallucination that are caused by her depression that is a result of her bestfriend’s death. Please help me find the book. Thank you!

Looking for a book about anthropomorphic foxes

In the late 1990s, I was obsessed with a book about foxes. I'm *fairly* sure this was not a children's book, but cannot be sure. I remember that the main characters were all foxes who spoke (but otherwise acted like foxes--this wasn't a Rats of N.I.M.H. situation). It followed a few foxes in a community from the time they were kits all the way through adolescence. There was a mangey fox who lived in the swamp, who the kit-foxes all made fun of but I think he eventually saved their lives during the climax of the book? There was a three-legged fox. I think there was a cabin in the woods with a lantern. There was almost definitely a swamp. I'm fairly sure there was a bit of a romance between two of the adolescent foxes. I think at some point, there's a fire and the foxes are trying to escape it and they end up going into the mangey fox's swampland? (This book sounds SO WEIRD when I write it out.) I'm fairly sure that the cover was beige or teal, but not 100% sure because I think that makes me think of the Swallows & Amazons cover I have. But for some reason it's sticking out in my head as the same style. I'd be super grateful for any guesses or help--I've been looking for this book for years. I've submitted to the whatsthatbook and Loganberry Books as well.

80's teen fiction

The story haunts me, but cannot find it anywhere. A teen girl is pulled out of class one day because her mother dropped dead from an aneurysm. Her aunt, a model taking time off because of a coldsore, picks her up and takes her home. They sit shiva. Her dad, unable to cope, takes her off to Miami during school break, and (things get vague here) as he retreats into sorrow more and more, she's left to her own devices and hooks up with a vaguely unsuitable guy. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I've been hunting this book for years. Thanks!

Photographer and the red head

So my dad had an audio book that I never knew the title to, but listened to the as a kid and have been dying to find it ever since. I believe its about a German immigrant (Hans I think is the name, but I could be wrong), who falls in love with cameras. He also meets a red head and they have a sordid love affair, getting caught in bed by her father, and I think he ends up breaking Hans' camera. I th8nk the story takes place in New York, but I could be wrong. Sorry if this isn't much help, but I was like, 5 or 6, and I don't think my dad knew I was listening to this audio book, and he listened to it two or three times, and I just never k ew what it was or who wrote it, but I would love to read it as a grown up now.

I forgot the name of this book

There was this book that I have already read, but I don't remember the name of it and I really want to find it to read it again! If I remember correctly (I barely remember.), it was about a mom and her daughter that moved really close to a forest and (I think) at one point she followed a cat into the forest. It was a white cat. Eventually she found someone in the forest (?) and every night the girl had to hurry home. But the person she met took the girl to her world, where her friend (who was much older now) lived in a house. The girl knocked on the door once and got to know her. | I don't remember anything else. someone please help me find the book

Book where girl follows cat?

I know it's been a few years but could it be the Doll in the Garden by Mary Downing Hahn? The girl's dad is dead so it is just her and her mom. She follows a ghost cat and meets a girl- except for in that book, she goes back in time to her neighbor's childhood friend who died. But she gets to know her new neighbor, an older woman who at first didn't like her, through this adventure. When the neighbor was a kid, she took the other girl's doll, but was never able to give it back and felt bad. So she buried it in the garden with a note. The main character finds it in her yard, figures out who it belongs to and gives it back hoping it could change the past. But the friend still died. I don't know when the "modern" part was supposed to be but I think the neighbor was a kid in the early 1900s or late 1800s.

book without a title

There is a children's book in which an evil owl has metamorphized into the mayor of a city. A child or children have to expose him guided by the proverbs " call a spade a spade" and "delve deeper." Unfortunately, I can't recall the author or the title.

Old Children's Book about a lion with no hair?

I had a book when i was a kid about a lion who either had no hair or gave all his hair to birds or something like that. Then the birds brought him leaves to replace his hair. It was a big book, maybe 8x10, hardcover, with several stories. The lion was on the cover. It was possibly from the 60s or 70s?

Lion and Mouse Book

I’m looking for the same book I had growing up as well. Read it in the early 90s. Remember the lion story and it having multiple stories in it... and that’s about it. Did you have any luck finding the book?

YA Romance

There's this book about two teenagers in high school. The girl is hispanic and the boy is white. The father of the girl is the gardener for the boy's parents house. One day she's in her dad's truck and the boy scares her? and she spills her coffee on herself and the boy helps her clean it up. The girl's family gets deported somewhere near the middle/end of the book. By the end the boy doesn't take the soccer scholarship and moves to Mexico with his girlfriend. Please help find it!

Young children's book

Read it in the 70's in elementary school library many times as a young child. About a brother and sister (orphans?) meet a old man-small house and they bake cookies. (I know it's sounds like the start to a child molester case-but that's all the real details I can remember...)

Little Cookie House/Shop?

Hi i read a similar book, small and paperback. Pen and ink illustrations? A girl bakes cookies maybe with the help of an older woman neighbor in a vacant small hoise for rent. Pretty sure there was a little brother. The man they met was a large landlord who was angry they were using the house to bake, but then liked the taste of the cookies and allwed them to use the house as a cookie shop. I cannot find info on this book ANYWHERE. Same book?

HELPPP

So i remember reading this book (not sure if it was online or a proper book) where these two people ( a guy and a girl) wake up in the middle of the day to find that they don't remember anything. So the story goes on and it turns out that there is a spell/curse thing on them that makes them renew themselves once everyday of the week, and they find that there have been others before them and take help from notes that the ones before them have left behind. They do this too, for the ones after them and try to figure out whats happening to them. Then this one day, they're in a hotel room and the guy thinks that the cause of this is love. Basically, they dated in their 'past life' but broke up because of problems between their families, and the guy thinks that if they fall in love again, like how 'fate' decided, they could be normal again. So they try this and it works and then there is like a 'years later' scene where they are married and they have a kid and the author leaves it on a cliffhanger; they're kid and her boyfriend are going through exactly what they did. I hope i find the story...it was amazing. Thanks!

Glimmer?

It could maybe be Glimmer by Phoebe Kitanidis. I read it years ago and the plot seems kinda similar although I don't remember the ending.

Romance/Mystery/Fiction Book

So, I have this book I read a few years back. I remember a lot of the plot, but I can't find it. It's likely the author was similar to Linda Howard/Julie Garwood/ Iris Johansen, as those are the kinds of authors I was reading at the time. So, it starts off with a teenage girl who plans to run away. She goes to meet someone she met on the internet (to the best of my memory), and gets kidnapped by people who take young girls and sell them. She's taken, and listed on a site to be sold. A woman comes into play (who I believe has a personal reason for working on cases such as this one), and she's trying to find the girl. There's a man who's helping her, who I believe is the romantic interest. They find her, and I remember the woman is surprised by how strong the teenage girl is, and has her lead the younger/weaker girls out while she deals with the bad guys. There's a fire somehow, and that's about all I remember. Please help me find this book.
I read this book a bit ago. It was about a girl with a middle eastern single mother. When she was twelve she thought her dad was a famous rockstar and sent him letters but never got a response. Then a few years later, the famous guy shows up at her doorstep saying that he is her father. He takes her and her best friend to go see his dad, who is dying. It would have been published around 2015 - 2018.

My mom and I have been searching for this book we used to read together when I was a kid for years and have had no luck. They murdered her mother!

I can't seem to remember the name of this book. It's young adult fiction and it's about this girl and her boyfriend who are on a mission to find information about the girl's mother. They go to her mother's hometown to try to find stuff and go into the mother's old best friend's house. There they find a journal of the girl's mother and an alter ego. The fbi and police are after them. The two men who killed her mother want to kill her too. APparently the popular politician is her father and is working with the men to kill her

Hi everyone. I've loved this

Hi everyone. I've loved this one book since my teen years but I can't remember the title for the life of me. I thought it was written by Cornelia Funke but after searching it hasn't come up. I read it about 9 years ago but it could have been published a while before that. The story involves a boy named Daniel who has to talk to the elderly for a project at school. He meets this nice old lady that encourages him to get out and be more social. Eventually he meets this girl (I think it is his neighbour but I'm not sure) she always hangs out with her little brother who I remember has a head full of black curls. She is very secretive and does not share too much about her life with Daniel which eventually becomes a source of conflict, until one day she suddenly disappears. Daniel then finds out that she has been taken (I think to a boat) by a man who he later finds out was the girls ex and that her little brother is actually her child but because she was so young (I think she was raped by the ex) that her parents thought it would be better to make it "their" child. Anyways, Daniel fights off the bad guy and saves the day, in the end the old lady that he has gotten so close to becomes his adoptive grandma. I've searched for this book for so long, I hope that at least someone else has read it and knows the title!

I would love to hold this book again

When I was a child in the 70's the Scholastic book order yielded a story I still love and half remember. The main character is Annika (sp?) who spends much time in apparent solitude in the rooms of her grandmother's house. There are opposing forces with whom she contends, in the form of living (though to other eyes) mechanical miniature animals from shelves of a curio cabinet. The dog is kind, wise, and like a dear relative to Annika while the mechanical/ live cat I remember as providing a great threat. It was a story gripping to me. I've looked through second-hand stacks for it for years.

I think I know

Is it No Flying in the House by Betty Brock?

That's the one!

YES I searched through these comments hoping that book was in there. All I remembered was the little girl didn't have parents and her friend was a magic dog.

M is for Mischief (I think that's the title.)

On moving to a new home siblings playing in the summerhouse are intrigued by an unusual oven and cookbook there. The oven dial can be turned to "M" for magical results. Ethical dilemmas are the heart of the story. The children turn a boy they don't like into a donkey (or perhaps, give him donkey ears). Is there a copy of this anywhere? It is one of two favorite 70's childhood books of mine. It came from the Scholastic book club.

Children's story about a glass statue?

Around 1993-1994, in Canada, our 3rd Grade class read a story (possibly a short story or a novel excerpt, possibly in a compilation of stories) about a girl who lived with her father. Her mother was either missing or dead. The girl possibly goes on an adventure, but it kicks off or ends with her finding a giant glass (?) angel (?) sculpture on their front lawn? I've been wondering what the heck the story was about all these years. Please let me know if you recognise the story!

help!!

hi. i've been trying to find out about this book for a while now and it's just bugging me on how i can't remember it. basically, the plot, from what i remember, is this: the protagonist is a girl around the age of 12, I believe. She is an orphan and has gotten adopted just recently, them being the aunt and uncle of her dead parents. she goes to the house. and her aunt is somewhat delusional? i mean, the aunt thought that the protagonist was her dead daughter cuz they look similar. she's told not to go near the aunt's son's room, since he's been sick (for a long time, too). slowly but surely, the protagonist is able to hear and see the ghost of the aunt's eldest daughter. though, her intent was malicious, seeking vengance on her little brother for "pushing her off the roof of the house" that they were playing on (which was false, the little cousin was trying to defend himself and accidentally knocked her over.) that's all i really remember.

youth scifi book series(?) from mid-80's

Read about you on my NYT daily newsletter and so glad I did! Been trying to find a youth scifi series I read as a child. The only details I remember: there were 3 main characters, 2 men and 1 woman. The wife of one of the men was killed by robots previously; he was traumatized and distrustful of robots. They were all traveling together on a Millennium Falcon-esque spaceship that might have been named something like "Voyager" and might have been sentient/talking variety. Any help...?

short story read in the late

short story read in the late 90s, printed possibly as early as the sixties or seventies? girl comes back home from fat camp: she has a magical or witchy family in some way, possibly just mom and grandmother, and the story revolves around preparing for and attending a "fete" at which the devil arrives, possibly in the form of a relative (the only line i remember clearly is about everybody at the potluck yelling Avaunt, avaunt!). she also has a locket sealed by yellowish goo or resin which she picks open by the end of the story.

Altogether, One at a Time

The short story is "Camp Fat" from "Altogether, One at a Time" by E.L. Konigsburg. A counselor at fat camp gives the girl a goo-covered locket; she picks off the goo and the locket plays "Au Clair de Lune." Later, the counselor is revealed to be a ghost or something. (She's from the past, and hasn't worked there for years.) Unfortunately, I think the devil, the potluck, and "Avaunt, Avaunt" are from something else entirely...I don't remember them in that story or any other story in that compilation.

the other stuff must have been in one of the other stories in the compilation. thank you!!

Children's book from 90s/2000s

I remember reading a book in my childhood, maybe when I was around 10 (so likely 2003 or earlier). What I can remember is very vague. I feel it was a short illustrated chapter book, tall and slim with a bold picture of a tall building with illuminated windows. The title may have had the number 11 or 13 in it... something like "The Eleventh Hour" or "The Eleventh Storey". It was a mystery about a child or maybe siblings whose parents have died and they are sent to stay at this distant relative's home which is a large haunted looking mansion or hotel. I remember a feast with loads of bizarre guests who may or may not be ghosts or other supernatural beings. I also remember something about the word "BEWARE" being written backwards on the wall and it has to be viewed in a mirror for the character to realise what it says. So basically a kid's mystery book, some kind of numbers or time is involved, there's a mansion/hotel and clues written backwards on the walls. Thoughts?

I have also been looking for

I have also been looking for this book! Any luck yet?

Eleventh Hour by Graeme Base?

What you describe shares many elements with Graeme Base’s “Eleventh Hour,” an illustrated mystery with clues embedded in the illustrations (messages written in reverse, patterns in the wallpaper, etc.). It centers on a large birthday feast, though the characters are all anthropomorphic animals, no human children being sent to an uncle’s mansion.

Book title

I can't remember everything but i know it was about a young girl and her dad , her mom had passed away giving birth to her brother i remember something about dust please help

I think I've read this

Sounds like "Out of the Dust" by Karen Hesse- the mom gets badly burned and both she and the baby die. Do you remember it being historical fiction and written in verse (like poetry)?

Help me

There’s this book that I read last year, it was about a girl who had a guy best friend and when they were little his dad tried to get them to do weird stuff but they escaped and then he ran away and finicky came back in high school then ran away again

Can't find the name of this book!

Okay I read this book when I was a kid, I'm sure it was some kind of children's book or at least in the children's section of the library where I would have gotten it. I can only remember some strange details such as that the main characters I believe are a brother and sister, I think the beginning takes place in a museum and they are in the gift shop at some point and a teapot is important/involved? They end up finding the missing will to some man who was involved with the museum and it was missing because one of his family members (a woman, I think) hid it. There's also a skeleton with a raincoat that's important, maybe the cover of the book but I can't remember

I think I know this....

This might be the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E. L. Konigsburg Or a Skulduggery Pleasant (features skeletons) book.

Looking for children's book about an elf and leaves

I am looking to find a friend's beloved children's book about which he cannot remember much. It's supposed to be a 30th birthday surprise. It's an illustrated children's book/story read to my frined when he was around five (so early 1990s) in Trinidad. The story features someone raking leaves and an elf who was either the personification of the wind or who just out of mischief kept blowing the pile of leaves away. At one point, though, the elf gets caught in a bag. Can someone help? Thank you your efforts!

It contained sex scenes or something of the sorts. That may be completly wrong but I know for sure the cover of the book was blue and it had a gumball machine on it.I think the gumball machine had multicolored gumballs in it?

Children's book from the 80s?

My mother used to read a book to me that was about the months of the year. It began, "January, cold as ice/ Is skating time for little mice." It has been driving us both crazy for years! I was born in '86, so it was likely published in the 80s or early 90s. Anyone have any ideas?

Help me find this book

I'm trying to find the name of a young adult book written in the 1950's about a happy family in Minnesota. It focuses on winter sports, and an outsider (cousin?) comes to stay, learns to ski jump and quickly becomes a ski jumping prodigy. There is a Scandinavian flavor and I think a recipe for meat pasties, which the kids take with them for hearty lunches on their outdoor adventures. It is a pleasant coming-of-age story.

Book identification

I think this might be Granite Harbor, by Dorothy Maywood Bird. It’s set in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula in the mid-1940s, but skiing is definitely a part of it. The main character moves in with the family next door when her parents move back to Texas or wherever they’re from.

"brain in a vat" sci-fi

The story as I can recall if are some intelligent robots that were exploring their planet and near the end the manage to break into some place they'd never been - and found the brains of whom they used to be - in containers and hooked to the computer network from where the robots ran. This would be both pre-matrix and pre-internet. Most likely an author of some distinction as I would have read it translated to Swedish.

Read it Years Ago and Can’t Remember the Name

I read this book in middle primary school and it was children-young adult kinda mid range aimed. I know that it has an audiobook adaptation if that helps. What I remember about the actual book is as follows. The start of the book has something about a petrol station and there’s red dust (or my 10 year old self may have just added that bit in) and then the main character/characters is/are taken to this compound where they’re forced to develop these gifts, the most memorable one was telekinesis. The main characters also discover a whole bunch of people in comas which I feel like they had to try to save. There are two people, I think they were twins, but they were definitely brothers with ridiculously powerful telekinesis who I’m pretty sure had control of the compound and were the oldest of the gifted. When the main character first meets them, they are using their power to manipulate playing cards and they live seperately to the others. It’s pretty vague, but I figure this is worth a shot. Thanks in advance (even if you don’t recognise it).

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar

okay, so i'm not sure if this book does have telekinesis since i've read something like this a few years ago. the book is called "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar And 6 More" by Roald Dahl. again, not sure if it's the one you're looking for, but i vividly remember a guy named henry who can read through cards, and uses that at casinos to become rich. anyways, hope this helped :))

Accidental shooting - novel

I read an excellent novel many years ago about a boy who goes next door with his neighbor's son to look at a his father's gun. Whilst handling the gun, it goes off accidently and the bullet goes through the window and kills his stepbrother (sister?) who is still a toddler and is playing in a kiddies blow-up pool in the garden. It deals with the repercussions of the shooting in a very sensitive manner.

Hi, I read this book but can't remember the name, it begins with the hero waiting in his car for the heroine to get out of prison where she was accused and charged for murdering the hero's brother in his house where she worked as either a babysitter or as a housekeeper, I'm not really sure which. Then he takes her away from the press to his house to keep her from harming his brother's wife and child.

True Story

I am looking for a book that is from a doctor or nurses point of view. Memories of the different babies that had been affected by prenatal drug exposure.

Forgot the title

The book had something to do with the last name of Goodman. I don't really remember too much but the children's parents died at Birth. After the father's passed away the children went into foster care. The best friend which is the boy got adopted bye a woman who everybody thought was the village witch. And the girl got adopted by a family with a lot of kids. And every time the mother would get pregnant she would lose the baby and she started having bad dreams.

Second book is about a girl who was kidnapped while she was going to her friends house and the man who took her let her go only to turn into wolfs and chase her to kill her. She was saved by a back wolf. I didn’t read all the story hopefully it’s enough information? Please and thank you.

Okay. So, it was a book about two sisters. One died due to a car accident while the other survived. The girl who survived mentioned her sister's name when she was asked by someone of authority on what her name was. Ever since then, she pretended to be her sister. Also, the girl who survived was into arts and was supposed to go to an Art School with her best friend who liked her. In the end, she told everyone the truth about what everything.

Help me find this book.

I read a book a couple of years ago and the details are a bit murky so any help locating this book would be greatly appreciated. The story starts off with a writer who lives in southern France with her husband and daughter. I think she was American but I'm not 100% sure. She goes off on assignment to write a cook book and she is accompanied by a male photographer. At first they don't get along but they eventually start an affair. She is away fro her family for long periods of times and every time she has to return home she's torn because her home life is so chaotic and uneventful but life on the road is fun and exotic. She gets to see different places and have all these grate experiences. She eventually chooses to go back to her family and the affair ends. That's pretty much the gist of it. Again, any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Please help me find this novel!

Hi, thank you for taking your time to read this. I've been searching for this book for about five years, and I'm not exaggerating. It's a mystery novel about a murder that the main character tries to solve. The victim, a woman, shows up at an iced lake in a white dress after her death and frightens the main character. She tries to solve the murder and befriends – I think the sister of the victim. Her name is Alice and she's a painter that lives in a circular house with a lot of windows. In the end it turns out that she is the murderer and has been dressing up as the victim to scare the main character, in the climax Alice tries to kill the main character but fails. I think the novel is from maybe the 60's or earlier. I know there's a ton of plot holes and it's not exactly logical, but I appreciate all help! Thank you so much in advance.

Mistress of Mellyn?

This has many of the same elements as Mistress of Mellyn by Victoria Holt, with the dead wife named Alice.

Fiction

I believe it's a short story. I'm trying to remember the name. It's about a guy with a station wagon who races the devil. He is winning and has a blow out and loses. The devil makes him his chauffeur. I read it probably 35 years ago. Anybody ever heard of it?

Science fiction book...possibly part of the title is Max

The time is in the future. The population has grown to such an extent that there is no land left. Animals are all extinct and there is a zoo of animals that have been stuffed, so people can see what they looked like. I remember one section of the book where it is someone's birthday and friends are taking her (or him) a few vegetables from their secret garden. They are on a bus and have had to carefully hide the vegetables because, if found, it will start a riot since fresh foods are a thing of the past (unless you manage to find a tiny plot of land to plant). There is a building somewhere that older people (and possibly ill people) can go when they are ready to die...don't remember how they die, only that they can. The population is so extreme that having a baby has been outlawed. I think a couple might be pregnant and are trying to find a way to escape (to what, I don't remember). I read this book years ago and many books since but this particular one has stayed with me and I would love to read it again.

I'm looking for a book I read

I'm looking for a book I read back in middle school. It was about 2 brothers who go stay in the suburbs with one of their parents (divorced) for the summer and they become friends with a homeless boy who basically stays in the woods nearby. They become more and more comfortable with each other until the boy's dad disapproves of the friendship and something happens in between but then the dad takes the boy in his RV and takes one of the brothers as well because he's unconscious. If I'm not mistaken the unconscious brother wakes up and manages to get away and ends up in Gilbert, AZ (where the other parent lives I believe). I might have some details wrong but that's basically the whole point of the book: 2 brothers making friends with an unknown boy

Driving me crazy

Can someone help me find this book, I used to owne it but lent it to a friend who never gave it back and then moved! I can only remember the begining and the cover. Takes place in Ireland during the potato famine. A girl is with her brother at night and her brother decides to get food for the family by stealing from the grain she's but he ends up getting caught. The cover is gold with flowers and maybe a hill in the back with a blonde girl (16-18 years of age) on the left bottom corner.

Been looking for this book forever

So this is a book series and from what I remember the first book is about this girl who goes to a school for like heroes or something and everyone has a chosen weapon and hers is a talking sword. She works at her schools library and her boss is like a super strict no nonsense kind of dude. Then this guy comes to her school and I think everyone thinks hes awesome (again been a long time). Then someone breaks into the lib where they hold all of these artifacts and steals a powerful one (it might bave been her sword now that im thinking about it) so she is like gotta get it back and thus starts the whole series. I know it was kind of a vague discription but thats all i remember.

Need help finding a book.

I read this one book in highschool. It was probably the only book I fully read. It was kind of dark and not really my genre of book, but i had randomly picked it out and read it all out of boredom from school and ended up liking it for some reason. Heres what I remember: It was about a few friends from high school or school in general who were either from England,Scotland, or some other country near that area in which they speak mostly English. One day one of the friends commits suicide, and no one knows why, theres no note, no anything. However, he does it by riding his bike into the road and getting hit by a car, so his friends think it was morely an accident while the police and detectives are saying it was suicide probably. Enraged by the police and sad about their friends death, they remember that their friend had always wanted to be buried somewhere in the europe/england/scottland/UK area that had the same name as him. However he is cremated and his parents want him to stay there in the house. So the kids steal the ashes, take a train, and run off to the place with the same name. In the end, the kids bury his ashes at the place, the detectives find a suicide note, stating that part of the reason he had committed suicide was because of his friends. One was secretly dating his ex, a other was playing sports or something instead of hanging out with him like they always did, and a few others did some things which led to this moment.

Can anyone identify an old movie

Hi all, I would like to identify a movie I saw as a teenager (sometime in 1970's - cannot pinpoint the time any better). There was a man living in small cabin in the wilderness, I believe he was a trapper, and he was married to a mute woman (not sure if she was a native indian). His foot/leg got injured (not sure if he caught in a trap?) and the woman had to amputate hit leg at the knee to save his life. The movie was clearly set in the 19th century (somewhat reminiscent of James Fenimore Cooper's books) and this is all I remember. I would appreciate if anybody could let me know what movie this might be. Thanks.

Children's Picture Book from the 1970s maybe?

I'm looking for a favorite children's picture book to surprise my sister for her 50th birthday. She read it in our school library (Camelot Elementary in San Antonio, TX) in the early 1970s. She remembers that it had a pink "crinkly cover" and it was about a young girl who had an upstairs reading room in her house that my sister described as "like a cupola." She said she doesn't know why, but her mind associates the book with Madeline L'Engle which may or may not be true. I'm sorry I don't have any more details.

The Velvet Room

I think maybe the book you are referring to could be The Velvet Room by Zilpha Keatley Snyder. I have this book from the 1970s which had a pink cover and was published through Scholastic Book Services. The girl Robin in the story lives during the depression. Her family is always on the move until one day their car breaks down in a small town. She discovers a large abandoned mansion with a secluded alcove, complete with velvet cushions, inside the tower where she likes to read, dream and hide from the real world. Eventually a "ghost" and burglars intrude into her safe haven and force her to make new choices and find direction in her life. Great story and one of my all time favorites!!!

Book from the 1990s I think

I think I was in middle school when I read this book, but don't remember a lot about it. This book was about a female vampire in search of the vampire who killed her family and made her a vampire. He used a black rose (like a calling card maybe?). And there was a connection she had with a tiger in a cage. I never got to finish this book, and the characters and images I do remember really stay with me!! Help!

In the forest of the night by Amelia Atwater Rhodes is the first one that comes to mind. Her other books are spectacular too!

Childrens story about feeding animals before eating yourself

This was a large format illustrated children's story I read in the early 70s - There is a house in the forest or some such setting and people traveling stumble across it, I think when they are in need. When the enter the cottage/house, there are animals also in a stall inside. There is food cooking in the fireplace and hay or grain in the room. When the animals beg to be fed first and the person feeds themselves first instead, the person is turned into an animal and added to the stall. I don't recall what the reward was for the person that finally did feed the animals first, but I seem to recall it saved the previous people-turned-into-animals.

True story of three bears, Canadian book for teens, ca. 1972

Hi - somewhere near 1974 I read the German version of a Canadian Book for children aged 12 (?) or 14 years and older. It was telling the true story of three motherless bearcups and a man who helped them to survive in the woods. One of the bears was named Rusty or Dusty and was finally shot (by hunters?). I believe, it was a reward winning book. And I am not sure at all, but there might have been the word "river" or the name of a river in the title. Many thanks. : )

Just a guess

Your book may be The Bears and I: Raising Three Cubs in the North Woods by Robert Franklin Leslie. It was published in 1975,

the book i need to find is

the book i need to find is about this woman who ends up with this man who's possessive over her and they have sex a lot ( yikes ) and they go on this trip to find his child, but the woman didn't know about that until the end and eventually they get there and he kills his baby's mother and the woman either killed the man or the cops got him. these details are kinda all over the place but this is what i remember from the book

Serial killer-amnesia

Hi all. I've tried searching for this book I read when I was a young teen. Around 20 years ago. It's about a woman who returns to her hometown for some reason or the other. But her memory of her younger years is vague and it involves Friends of hers being killed. Hence the amnesia. But while she's home, killings like the one that involved her friends start happening again. Long story short, it ends with her being the original killer but having no memory of it. Split personality or something along those lines. But throughout the book the writer refers to a stack of papers on her desk that seems to be getting higher every morning when she wakes up. It's only at the end of the book that the reader discovers the woman/serial killer has actually been writing down the details of each kill. Leaving a book so to speak of each kill. I've searched but have yet to find it. There's even a part that mentions a mother pulling hard on a child's arm dislocating the elbow and the main character can relate because her own mother had done it to her. Any of this ringing a bell?

Looking for a book! Please help/respond

Hi there! So I have been looking for this book for quite some time now, and it is driving me crazy. I read it as a young teen and now as a grown adult keep thinking of the book from time to time. As the weirdo I am I remember I used to write in a notebook every book I’ve ever read. After moving out who knows what might’ve happened to it and have rummaged through my poor parents home with their permission in search of my many lists! Google hasn’t been much help either as I cannot remember title or author. The book is I believe wirtten in first person, I think the girls name is Coralene or something similar to that. She’s around 17 when the book starts and is wanting to lose her virginity (cannot think of time period of book but I believe it is 20th/21st century) and she basically picks this guy out names Will from school and they end up getting together, I can’t recall if they get married but the guy does go to school to become some sort of Tree specialist or rapper or something. The now woman and guy do have a child and I forget what exactly happens but “Coralene” passes away and I guess it’s when Will finds the book and finished it off as he reads it to I believe their daughter. It’s a bit foggy and I know it’s not much detailed, but hopefully someone will recognize it! I think the title does have the word Pillow in it somewhere.

Missing a Mystery!

What I remember about the book that I'm trying to find: a reclusive (pretty sure she's blind and may be psychic) lives in a cottage in a wooded area in New England, I think. Somehow she gets corralled into helping a male detective solve a murder which puts her in jeopardy. I want to say that she also has someone who helps with things like groceries (since she rarely goes out) and such like things. That's it. I hope you can help me. It's driving me nuts! "Spiritual Journey" Novel -- Deep, Lightless, Watery Cave

The memory of a long-lost novel has been haunting me for years. I've tried repeatedly to find it again, but no one ever seems to have heard of it. It'll have been published before 2004 and probably considerably earlier than that. It had a protagonist who became trapped in a lightless cave for months and perforce underwent a spiritual journey before finally finding his way out or being rescued. I vaguely recall eerie photoluminescence being mentioned. The protagonist was probably married although I'm not sure whether or not he had children who haunted his dreams of an ever-retreating life before the cave. Also, for some reason, my memory insists that the novel's title was very short, perhaps something like "The Skink." Speaking of skinks, I *think* the protagonist was obsessed with an underground creature that could very well have been a skink. The creature was likely meant to be a metaphor. I guess it's worth trying once more to find what was once upon a time a fairly popular mass-market novel. Any pointers to the actual novel are much appreciated! (Please forgive the wall of text -- I don't know how to force proper paragraph formatting with this board.)

I REALLY NEED HELP FINDING THIS BOOK

Now I was never into books, but I remember reading this book in class one day and only just recently I have gotten the urge to finish it. The book is about 2 teens, one boy one girl, who live different lives, they suddenly cross paths because of a music/ rock festival I think. The boy really wanted to go to this event and I think he had friends who either didn't want to go with him, or he just didn't wanna go with them. While making his way there he sees a broke down van and inside he meets his favourite rock band, who were the main performers of this event. I don't know too much about the girl apart from she works in her uncle and aunt's cafe I believe.

Was it Who's Your Mummy by R.L. Stine? It's from his Goosebumps Horrorland series.

Idk the name of the book but

Idk the name of the book but that sounds like the movie 'underwraps' that was on disney. Came out in the mid 90s. Maybe it became a book or vice versa

kids zombie book

I am looking for a book series about a boy and his neighbor Emma. They were turned into zombies in middle school, maybe by their teacher. I think that the principal was a hundred-year-old zombie. The PE teacher was a zombie. Emma's dad was a HAZMAT (Humans Against Zombies Mobile Assault Team) worker, and he helped them until he discovered they were zombies.

Help Me Find This Book Title

Read this book in the early/mid 70’s; science fiction story about a preteen or teen in some weird region/community inhabited by huge angular (triangular?) creatures - one of which he is servant to. He wants to escape but can’t fifure out a way to do it. I remember one passage where the boy had to climb up on the creature to bathe him, and I think the environment was a warm and humid one. It’s also possible that an illustrated movie was made of this story.

The Tripods trilogy

Sounds like the last book of the Tripods trilogy by John Christopher. The protagonist was called Wil, I think. At least the first book was made into a British tv series.

Kids book or story

Two of us, two of us climb the stairs, two of us say our prayers, at the end you two be still

Fantasy book magic stone plane crash

1990s/2000s? Child/teen Fantasy book with magic stone that transports 2 kids to another world through a plane crash & involves a green skinned wizard. So to start two teenagers (12 or 14 but definitely less than 16 I think) boy and girl, cousins maybe? friends, find a stone/rock in an abandoned quarry after or during a thunderstorm. (The stone glows?, something to do with lightning maybe?) ....I think they got some powers or something by using it but I'm hazy on this part, ....but while they're on a plane it crashes except they wake up in a different world...(fantasy/medieval with elves, dwarves, giants, magic) They first meet/get rescued by a young man who was an apprentice or slave to a wizard and was cursed with green? skin. They have to help save the world or something... at the end they can travel back to their world (during the book they met at a forge? and after some magic they are informed that they could get home but decade(s) will have passed in their world, despite less than a year passing in the fantasy world... and at the end they wake up in the farmers field the plane crashed in but decades later and the parents/aunt had still stayed by the phone waiting for news of them....

Pretty sure it's what you're looking for

There are some differences between your description and the books, but even the differences you described the right basic idea just in the wrong setting or something of that nature. So I'm almost positive what you're looking for is the "80 AD" series by Aiki Flinthart; 5 books, very easy to find, and quite entertaining even after multiple rereadings. Good luck!

Looking for an Old Book

I read a novel I’d love to find the title and author of. I read it in 2006 and i remember it seemed old at the time - maybe something from the 50s or 70s. It may have also had two authors. I recall a riveting plot where someone manages to intercept an oil pipeline and steal the oil by sending it to their own tanker. And in order not to tip off the people who owned the pipeline, they replaced it with the same volume of seawater in the process to avoid being found out. I think I remember there being parts about the underground tunneling and just a fascinating plot. Any help is appreciated.
