This is an update of a previous post by Sharon Rickson.

It can be tough to remember the title and author of a book you read a long time ago—even if it was a book that was really important to you. Fiction is cataloged by author and title, not by subject or plot line, which makes identifying books by just their storyline difficult.

Readers often ask librarians for help finding these kinds of books. And we can’t figure out the mystery every single time, but we do have a few tricks to help find the answer.

First, pin down everything you can remember about the book, plot, character names, time period in which the book may have been published, genre, etc. All these details are clues in identifying the title and author of the book.

Online resources can help with your search for a half-remembered book, even if all you have is a basic plot line. Searching yourself is a good place to start; then, you can post to a listserv or discussion forum, where someone might recognize it. Or, last but not least, leave a comment on this post!

Before You Start

Try Google! Type in everything you can remember about the book — as in, “picture book rabbi animals advice yiddish” — and scroll through the results. (That’s a real-life example of a book a patron was asking for: It Could Always Be Worse by Margot Zemach.)

You can also try googling one key detail you remember from a book. One of our librarians solved a book mystery by searching “USS You-Know-Who” — the name of a boat in the story that the patron happened to remember. (Another real-life example: She Flew No Flags by Joan Manley.)

More Suggestions

  • If you can remember just one word, use the search function on Goodreads or Library Thing to find long lists of titles with a particular word.

  • Goodreads’ browse-able lists of titles that readers have shelved in unique categories, such as authors’ professions or decades of publication, is also be helpful.

How to Move On

Sometimes, it's just not going to happen, and you can't find that elusive book you've been searching for. It's okay! Great news: The world is full of great books! Here are a few ways to find more...

I remember one of the first stories in the book was about a fairy girl who went to visit some mice that were tailors I think? There was also a story about a fairy girl gettin a unicorn. (cheesy I know) I’ve been thinking about this story for a while and the art reminds me of something from the Flower Fairies Books (it might be one of those books and I wasn’t looking close enough) If it sounds familiar, please let me know!!

Help, please

I'm trying to find this book about a girl and boy teenager, I think both of them have cancer. I know the boy does. They run away from home, but before they do, they eat at a diner and share a pie, thought the girl cannot finish, because she is too nervous. They hotwire a car, thinking they were going to escape in a slow car, but then the boy finds a Harley motorcycle, and they escape town, hoping they "wake up they entire town". They ride to the city, and eventually end up at sand dunes, when the boy falls over, hurt. They hurriedly run home so the boy can get treatment. He ends up dying, because he went without treatment for about three months. The girl is no longer trusted by her parents, because her mom is dead, but her dad stood outside while she was on the balcony, in the boy's sweatshirt, crying.

What is the name of this book

What is the name of this book? "Every Saturday night after dinner, my grandmother would do our hair. My sister would always want me to go first so she could keep on reading her book. She read a lot of good books. I would ask her to read aloud to me. Her reading took my mind off the how much getting my hair done could hurt."

NEED HELP!!!

I am searching for a book but my memory of it is not great so i only know a small amount of details. A really clever young boy, very clever (from russia? Or from some other country), is a scientist and comes to a place to work (i think in america?) with adult scientists to try and stop a meteor from colliding with earth. He meets a girl (who is quite the opposite of him, i think shes a bit eccentric?) and they like each other. I feel like the girl’s brother was in a wheelchair. And i think i remember they taught the clever boy swear words/slang words at some point. It is YA and is fiction romance/sciencey.

Novel search

Hey I hope anyone can help me. I have been looking for this book I read in high school, i'm in college now. It's a novel about a famous couple who had an infant child. The wife is found dead at the bottom of the staircase and the husband is accusaccused of having killed her, but the thing is I dont think he remembers what happened. His daughter may have been 4 at the time of this murder and is raised my the dead wires parents away from the public eye. Over 20 years later or 29 I think her father is released and wants to find the killer and his daughter falls for the detective involved in her father's case. I dont think I can remember more details and i think it turns out that maybe her uncle murdered her mother. But please if anyone can possibly know the title that would be great. It keeps me up at night not knowing abd I would really love to re-read this book.

Response to Alora

The book you're looking for is River's End by Nora Roberts.

A long shot but I’ve been searching for years.

So I read this book at my public library years ago when I was in my early teens and had to turn it back before I finished it. Something about the book keeps me looking for it! The cover had a girl laying down where you could see her hair and I believe a little of her face. I remember the border was light green and I believe her hair was red. The plot as I remember it was a girl being sent to live with her cousin and aunt, the cousin resents the girl at first. I forget how it’s revealed but I think the girls are actually sisters and have magic abilities. I remember dreams were important as well as visions/dreams of a tree. I can’t remeber much else about it other than it was definitely YA fantasy/drama. Please help!!!!

I don't think it's the same

I don't think it's the same book, but maybe check out The Watcher in the Woods by Florence Engel Randall.

Help to find a book please

It’s about a archeologist type guy that finds a ball/orb/globe that allows you to see into the entire past and future but he is hunted by gov/church because it disproves god or something along those lines. Also remember something about old churches and maybe native indian lore.

Looking for this book:

Hi all. Looking for a romance novel with the possible title "Black Roses" set sometime in the 1700s or 1800s. I'm pretty sure the characters were in England and the town the female protagonist lived in was (I think) used to smuggle things to or from France at the time. There's a quite a few sex scenes, and we discover that the men she sleeps with are the same person, and (possibly) an old love. I'm pretty sure he's a ship captain too. Preciate any help with finding it

Shot in the dark

When I was in 8th grade I remember reading this multiple pov book about some teens from different backgrounds who may have had special abilities and were able to enter a different realm plane of existence, I believe some evil character was living and working in this realm to take over the world to some effect. The main protagonists may have been introduced to some secret organization to help them figure out how to roam around in this realm as well but that's just foggy memory, one thing I do remember is however high or low your self esteem and confidence levels were in yourself the better you looked in this other plane or realm of existence, thanks for any help

Here are the things I do remember: 1) the heroine works as a maid/servant girl in a whore house 2) falls for and sleeps with a man above her station 3) gets pregnant by said man 4) a whore helps her sign up for a mail order bride??? 5) travels west to get married 6) husband doesn't know she is pregnant until they are intimate 7) husband has a half-indian daughter 8) either Indian father in law or Indian medicine man lives on the ranch with the family 9) daughter falls into a cave and is saved by her heavily pregnant step mother Here is hoping someone will be able to help me. Thank you in advance

Sounds like goblin: a lonely and great god. Or dokebi, in Korean. It's a Korean drama but I think it was a manga first.

Sci Fi book about humans who SHOULD be violent and not peaceful

I can't remember the name of the book/short story (maybe by Asimov?)... But the gist was that one day, the UFOs landed and the aliens were met by the President of the USA. The aliens told the President that humans were their invention and they were terribly disappointed in how they've been behaving so they'd have to exterminate all of us. Pleading for our lives, the President told the aliens to just come back tomorrow to give us all time to agree to improve. The aliens agreed and left. So the President got the world's leaders together and they spent all night hashing out peace treaties, etc. The next morning, the aliens came back and the world leaders proudly showed the aliens the peace treaties. "See! We can do it!" But the aliens looked disappointed. Turns out they put humans on Earth to become warriors, not peaceful, so the aliens killed us all. The end.

Help finding a book

I read this book back in the last 80's or first 90's. I think the title had Her in it and it was a short title. I am thinking the title was something like "Her and Him". The story was told from a girl and boy's point of view. The girl's daddy was a drunk and abusive. She had to cook and keep the house clean. The girl started have sex with the milkman for quarters and she would put the quarters in a jar. She was saving the money to help with running away. Eventually, she runs off with a truck driver. The book was very raw. If someone remembers this book, then I would appreciate any help.

Humorous Mystery Series

I’m looking for a series of books I read (more than 1, I think less than 5) a few years ago (2015?). I believe they were by a male author, and fairly modern. I can’t remember much about them, yet they’ve stuck in my head as being extremely funny and ones I’d love to read again! The protagonist was a klutzy (or maybe not klutzy, just slapstick-ish bad luck?) dad (maybe 2 kids?) with a long-suffering wife, and his neighbor is a prostitute. He keeps stumbling into situations/mysteries along with his neighbor. I wish I could remember more! Something about falling down the stairs in the first novel, maybe. Like, imagine if James Thurber wrote cozy mysteries.... Thanks in advance for any leads!!

Help me find this book!?

I read this book when I was still a teen, somewhere between 2010 and 2015. It was a romance novel. I think the girls name was Pepper or Penney. She fell in love with an older guy who worked on her father's ranch. I remember him getting drunk, and she was called to come get him, and he waved a gun around and threatened to shoot it if she didn't marry him. In order to calm him down she agreed. Later, she tried to get an annulment, but couldn't without his signature, and he didn't remember anything and she didn't want to tell him. He was also in love with her but had a lot of respect for her father, as well as personal reasons he wouldn't persue the relationship. I can't really remember much else. I tried all the writers whose names I can remember from that time. And there's a chance it could have been a harlequin or something like that.

Twin brother series

The plot - book one is about one of the twins. He's on some mission. They have a criminal family past, I think. He likes a girl. He meets her at Mardi Gras, but doesn't show his face. That's all I remember

A story I read

I think I read this as a child in the 60s. It might have been in a book of stories or maybe a stand alone story. It was about a boy who might have been sick and who is told to raise his hand in bed and if he dies god will take him. he is found dead in the morning with his hand in the air. I don’t think it was a scary or creepy story, but here 50 odd years later it’s creeping me out!

This was a short story found

This was a short story found in "Highlights" magazine for kids. I remember reading it every time I went to the dentist.

A book about a detective looking for 3 Heiress

It's an erotic novel. A detective was assigned with the task of finding three heiress. The detective only had some vague descriptions of the girls. One of the girls have a mark on her derriere. The mafia, or something like that, was also trying to locate the girls. The detective had so many awesome sexual encounters while trying to locate those girls... It's been a very long time since I read that book. I will be so glad if someone will help recall the title of that story. Thanks.

Can’t Remember the Name

I liked this book when I was younger (10 year ago at the most) but I can barely remember anything about it. It was about a guy trying to find treasure. The title was “The -?” Stared with a M. It was something that sounded long and fancy like “The Marxonist” or something like that. I also think I might’ve read it in school but I’m not sure.

Author/title needed - novel with multiple narrators, shipwreck?

I'm looking for the author and title of a novel published several years ago. It had multiple narrators and was about a ship, with possibly a shipwreck. It took place a while ago. The narrators may have been the captain, an indigenous person, a low-level sailor/cabin boy, and probably at least one female character. I believe the book title was one word - something like Landslide, though it wasn't. The author was a Japanese immigrant who lived in Davis, CA. Her first and last name were "white American" names - she took her husband's last name. I don't believe the book had any Asians in it, and it probably had nothing to do with Asia. Several years ago, when the novel came out, she was on the author/book reading circuit. I Googled and Googled, but could not find that book title or author!

Book series from childhood (1980's)

Series about three girls who attend an all girls boarding school. One rich, one regular and one on scholarship. I believe one character was black. I read these books and think my daughter would like them to.

The Girls of Canby Hall,

Two Sisters in France

There’s a book I read in the late 80s, geared towards young adults that was surprisingly well-written. It wasn’t part of a series (I don’t think), and I can’t remember the title. It was about two sisters who either lived in France or just spent the summer there, and there was a love interest. There was a scene in which they all had fondue outdoors at night. Legend had it that if you lost your piece of bread in the fondue pot, whoever found it got to kiss you or was destined for you, etc. That was how one of the sisters began a romance. There was also a memory of when the sisters were little, they played a game to see who could withstand the cold bathroom the longest before they jumped into a hot bath. A comparison was made between that memory and falling in love. It was a slightly cheesy looking teen paperback, but good enough that I would read it again if I could ever figure out the title. Not much to go on, but I would appreciate any help!

Recommend by friend, when asked the tittle, her reply “Idk”

Ok guys get this, I mentioned to a friend that I’m starting to read more frequently after visiting a local bookstore and forgotten how much I loved it. From what she described it’s a true event of how he was raised as a child and his teen years. It’s about a boy having to go and live with his uncle and aunt after some accident/event leaving him to be an orphan. His uncle and aunt adopt him only to find out that they are not good people. The abussove uncle would take people like hitchhikers, homeless people, people from a bar, etc. bring them back to their home and kill them different ways then burry them in some type of field or crop they grew. Later I’m the book it describes how his uncle is a satanist and how terrified he was wanting to tell people but didn’t. My friend also mentioned that it has pictures or some type of evidence of accusations of his uncle and remains of the people who were murdered. If anyone can help me out your help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Please Help

This one was about how people trashed earth, and so like nine spaceships went to outer space to find habitable planets and it’s told in first person from a teens point of view. She was interested in astrology and there were blue alien squids on the planet who could speak simple talk. I remember the cover had a girl sitting in front of a rock wearing a breathing mask, and to her right there was one of the squids, offering her s knife. I’m the end her interest in astronomy showed her an asteroid on a collision course with the planet, and so she has to go out and stop it. They show her puffins and say they will be on the planet when she gets back, and she says they looked like clowns.

Looking for a book about an alien disguised as a student.

Hello, I've been trying to find this book for a very long time, but no cigar. If I remember correctly, the plot is about a teen boy who is bored of life and gets bullied. Until he encountered a person who looked like an alien and helped the alien get on back on a ship by driving it to certain location. He has an obese friend and another friend who burnt her breast as a child with an iron press. If anyone has any idea what the title or the name author that created this book is, I would greatly appreciate it.

Looking for a book about living life stages in different order

We tend to think that people go to school - elementary, middle, high school. Then perhaps college, get a career, get married, have children, go through empty nest, retire, perhaps have grandchildren, go through old age and finally, die. This was a self help book about people who don't live their lives in this order. It was published in either 80's or 90's.

90's-2000s Children's Book

I am looking for a children's books I read as a child (born 1996) about a young girl and her mother who live alone in the jungle (I believe) and the mom always tells the child not to go out alone into the jungle because there is a wild animal out there (with a fictional name, kind of like a lion I think). One day the mom leaves and the daughter goes out to pick flowers alone and runs into the wild animal. That's all I remember.

i HAVE to find this one book

I read this book in middle school, and I don't remember the name of it at all! Its about a girl who meets a stranger(on a horse), who offers her a lift home when its pouring rain, but she refused and she has to walk all the way back home. He turns out to be a king(of a different world) and had abducted her, and forces her to marry him. He lived underground, underwater.tradition goes, she had to go through with a ceremony where she would be bathe and then walk naked in front of the kings people, passing different tests. She ends up passing the test, and then has a sorta like tattoo which is actually a real snake tattooed on her which will come to life to protect the kings wife. The king really falls in love with her, and finally allows her to go back home. When she does, she hopes they will listen to her but instead, believe she is insane and lock her in a room. She runs back to the king, realizing how she feels with him, and eventually the king and her have a child at the very end. I believe the king was self conscious she was scared, in the end they both helped each other overcome that. Please, help me find this book!

Ya romance/fantasy novel

I read this in 1999-2000, it was a YA novel with a girl who was sacrificed to a dragon, but it turned out the dragon could turn into a human form- a blonde teen with green eyes. His name was Selendryl or Serendril or something along those lines.

Maybe I Am Dragon? It’s a

Maybe I Am Dragon? It’s a Russian author I think. Description During her wedding ceremony, Princess Mira is snatched by a dragon and is carried away to its lair on a remote island where rescue is impossible. The Princess is unharmed and has nothing but a stone cage and a mysterious young man named Arman who finds her food and drink but keeps his distance from her. Who is he, and what's he doing on the Island, is he also the Dragon's prisoner? In time, Princess Mira learns the truth which both shocks and excites her.

If you are still looking, you

If you are still looking, you might check out Fire in His Blood by Ruby Dixon. This is what happens in this book. By its not a YA. It's definitely a Romance.

Dragon's Bait

Dragon's Bait by Vivian Vande Velde

Post-apocalyptic fiction book after power outage

I think this book was late 70s, or early 80s. Power goes out in the northeast half of the US, leading to a border being set up by states with power, keeping refugees out. It featured part of the power grid going down, taking others grids with it, till half the country was dark. Title may be something like "Lights Out", or have "Darkness" in the title. The story followed a man who left his home, ran into the babysitter of his children and had a relationship with her, and went on to rule one of the larger camps of refugees at the border, and at one point has to shoot a woman who he knew from his old pre-power outage life, who came in to his camp to take over. It featured a meeting with another camp ruler over how to handle "runaways", the people at the camp fringe who were almost slaves. The book described, quite believably, the social hierarchy that developed in the post-outage society of the camps. Had a scene where I think the babysitter is given a ride by men in an RV, and they violate her, one man apologizing for not being able to perform, as he forced himself on her, highlighting the stark contrast of the social niceties of pre-outage times and the chaos following the power outage. I thought that early in the book, when the man is thinking that the babysitter had more in common with his kids, than with him, there was a mention of Star Wars, or similar movie or TV show, which would help pin down the time the book was written, but I might be mixing up books.

Looking for a book about a crazy young girl

So I’m looking for a book I read in the late 80’s to early 90’s. The plot was about a young girl around 8-10 who was found wandering in a park rummaging through trash. The pregnant lady who finds her takes her in, and falls in love with the child who starts cooking for her and helping around the house. Child soon becomes obsessed with the lady and starts calling her baby “Our boy”. She starts doing crazy stuff to try and hurt the husband, and it’s found out that she had an abusive father whom she killed, along with her mother because she said she was weak. The child is eventually institutionalized and at the end of the book the mom gets a package of a wooden train built by a child, that says in child’s handwriting for our boy. Been looking for this book for years soany help appreciated.

Blarghh i can't remember the

Blarghh i can't remember the name of this book! In 2016/17 I read this book about a girl who made friends with this annoying pirate but the pirate wasn't a pirate but in fact he was a writer who dressed up as a pirate. The cover was a girl staring out into the water and there was a sea monster peeking out of it. It's a kids book, and I read it in 4th grade.

Two narrators - educated unbalanced mother and highly gifted son

I read this novel in 2004 - it had been recently published so probably 2002 or 03 but could be earlier. Author was a female graduate student - I think at a North American Ivy League, I think in philosophy. The novel has two narrators - a young highly educated but unbalanced mother and her incredibly gifted son. It’s set in contemporary London and they’re very poor so there are scenes where they ride the tube and find other places where they can stay warm during the winter days. He’s always studying. The boy is about to go to school - I think he’s about 6 - maybe a bit older and he’s been home-schooled? In any case, there are scenes where he’s narrating and comparing himself to John Stuart Mill and other hothoused child prodigies and worries that he hasn’t managed as much himself, despite already being absurdly learned - I think he’s mastered Greek and Latin and read widely. That’s about all I remember. I think the format was that she narrated the first half and he the second. I think it was the debut novel for this author. I’d really like to read it again if anyone can help - thank you!

Book

Im looking for a book. I know the cover has a kid with a bag on his head and somwear along the the line the talk about how to drink a ice cold coke.

I can't figure out the name of a manga I got to read a part but

Hi! Ok so the book I'm looking for is about a little boy who made a friend when he was younger. They used to do everything together as well as sleep in each other's houses. Unfortunately one day while boy 1 was walking back home from the grocery store his friend, boy 2, was leaning against the balcony as he tried to tell the boy 1 something before falling and landing on the ground. The boy 2 fell right in front of boy 1 which caused him to pass out from shock. After a couple of days he has been told he wouldn't be able to hang with boy 2 anymore, he was still young and didn't know the reason why so he went into a slight depression. This phase cause him to start hallucinating about boy 2 being near him. So for the rest of his life up to his middle school graduation he has been thinking that boy 2 has been by his side the whole time and that people were just bullying him for no reason. That is till an old friend of hi, which he seemed to have forgotten came back, the imaginary boy 2 starts to tell boy 1 about not hanging with the old friend and how bad person he is. So anyway after a few drama here and there they boy finds out that boy 2 was "dead" the whole time and that he was just imagining things which caused him to go to another state of depression. The old friend though helps him through and they become lovers. At the end his lol tells him the truth and that his friend (boy 2) was not actually dead but was in and out of the hospital, that the only reason he couldn't see him was because his mother prohibited it. In the next season of the book it talks about how they all start going to the same University and how the boy 2 and boy 1 start to become great friends. The spot I had left on was when boy 2 seemed to have caught feelings for boy 1

Guardian Angel Book—Please help!

I read this novel when I was very young about a girl who lives a not-so-good life and then dies and becomes a guardian angel to a boy. She watches him as he grows up and protects him but he can't see, touch, or hear her. There are two paths to life, a good path and a bad path. In his adolescent years, the boy starts to stray down the bad path and there are evil wolves that try to lead him astray, and the guardian angel has to try to keep him on track. Does anyone know what book this is?! I can't find it anywhere and I remember I really liked it! Thanks!

Coming of age YA novel featuring a love triangle and suicide

A middle school teacher of mine assigned a book to us in the early 2000s. My memory of the book is as follows: The book is from the point of view of the main male character who, over the course of the book, develops a friendship with a "tomboy" girl and a smart, rich boy. The two male characters eventually develop a love triangle with the female friend. The main character is living with his father. The story begins with him arriving to a town for schoolwhere his father lives. He goes out and explores the town and eventually meets the female friend while they watch a horse/cow/deer give birth. I know there is a subplot where a female teacher at their school is being harassed/stalked by a male student. And, finally, I know it ends with the smart male friend committing suicide. The cover of the book was mostly black, but had a pinkish white tree in the center of it. In my hunt to find this book, I found two reddit posts that might be the same book. https://www.reddit.com/r/whatsthatbook/comments/8pnalt/book_about_three_friends_coming_of_age_and_one/ https://www.reddit.com/r/whatsthatbook/comments/2dy3s8/teenage_love_triangle_two_boys_one_girl_awkward/ It is not "The Perks of Being a Wallflower."

Young adult fiction. High school, kids get detention where one of them dies from drinking from a cup that has peanut oil in it (which he is deathly allergic to). The other kids in detention are all suspects. Kid who died wrote about others secrets on a website forum for the school (probably why he wasn't liked by everyone). End of book, we find out he killed himself by putting the peanut oil in the cup and was trying to screw up the other kids lives. Anyone know the name of it?

I can’t believe I can’t remember the title

Hi all! I would love some help recalling the name of this book. I remember the opening scene is the hero and the heroine (when she is much younger) attending her fathers funeral. The two bond and the girl is shipped off to live with her aunt and uncle. Flash forward and the heroine is now 16 or 17 and is basically a slave for her aunt. She decides the only way she can escape is to become the mistress of the eligible bachelor who has come to stay in the home - her hero from long ago. He doesn’t recognize her, deflowers her, and then realizes who she is (her father was his captain). He whisks her away to London, falls in love, and then her cousin tries to kill her for money. I think the heroines name was Violet, but I’m not 100%. It takes place in regency England I believe, but not sure. Any help is appreciated!

Fey/supernatural book

So iv looked for this book on Amazon. Wattpad and Google and no hope. I'm pretty sure it was a Amazon kindle book from a couple years back. A now adult female was stuck in the Fey realm and the only escape was to duel the Fey lord. She won and in return received his powers. Back in the human realm I'm pretty sure she is a supernatural investigator and takes down trolls or pixies in the first chapter or 2. All I know is she has a sidhe lords powers.

Audiobook, self help, positive thinking, others point of view

There were many audiobooks I was listening to in my early teens (late 80s). One story within the author was talking about helping his clients through hard times. one is where a lady had aggressive co-workers and he suggested she go to work with a tampon behind her ear and when a co-worker said something to her, he suggested she ask if they had seen her pen. The next was a man on the subway was approached by another rider asking him to settle his children that were playing and running around. He then said to the other rider, "how do I tell my children their mom just died?". These audiobooks were such a paradigm shift in my thinking I would love to find them and have another listen.

help me find this book please!

a kid moves in with her parents and there are ghosts in the house. two male ghosts and one female. it was during war time. one man killed another man over a girl. the woman never found out and all three of them were redidual ghosts. they kept doing the same thing until the kid solved the murder.

Book

Hi I am looking for a book I read in Elementary school. All I remember about it was a witch stole a fairy baby, a girl and the witch had a mirror that could see the fairy mom and I think the mom could see her daughter. I would bring this book home once or twice a month. I cant remember anything else.

Irish children immigrate to America

The children journey from Ireland to London with their mother. Stay in awful circumstances with little to eat. Mom somehow doesn't end up with a ticket and the children head to America with out her. The voyage then the struggle, this book has to be a classic children's Novel written early 1900's.

Children's witch book

Cannot remember the book... published before 1984 (I read it when I was in school in Germany)... was purple, had a witch, spiders, and spells in the book. In the center was a incantation of some sort which kids could do. I remember a black inked with on the cover with crazy hair but my brother remembers a colored in witch with a child reading a book looking on at the witch on the cover... though we cannot remember much else it is important we find it. Thank you if able to help.

cannot find this book ANYWHERE

I have looked online everywhere and I cannot find this book It was a paperback, and if I remember correctly it was called THE HOUSE I can't remember the author or even the year, I had gotten the book around 1997/1998 It was about a strange house that might have been a spaceship incognito All I can remember about this book was that inside the house, there were fake faucets, fake books, and no electricity Yet at the end of the book, and this part stands out even after all this time, a light comes on in one of the windows, a shadow glides by, and I think the house disappears or something after that The back or front jacket of the book mentioned something about extraterrestrials I do remember the cover picture, a cliche house with a shining white light in one of the windows I did find two other stories similar to this one: "Window" by Bob Leman, and "The House that Stood Still" by Van Vogt However, this story is different, and doesn't actually reveal or disclose anything, if I remember correctly Any help would be greatly appreciated Like I said, I cannot remember the author or year whatsoever

book about plague

so I read this book about the plague or some sketchy disease in the 6th grade and I'm dying to remember the name the cover was dark blue with some sort of building I believe it may be an asylum or hospital of sorts. I don't remember the main girl's name but I think one girl was named Annie and the main girl stole a small boat from her at one point. Annie was a rich kid. At one point one of the characters is in a cage in a tree, and there is a situation with fire in the hospital/whatever building that was near it and on the cover. I can't remember the name or author.

Fariy book

I'm looking for a book about a fairy and a young boy. I found this book series once before in a children's section . The fairy is shy and I don't think she speaks to anyone. She is being held captive in a castle tower, but a boy working in the castle helps free her and gives her flowers to eat. I would appreciate any help finding this series. Thank You!

There was a book and I can’t

There was a book and I can’t seem to remember it. It was a “Halloween” type book about a kid with OCD. I think his name started with a J. Either way there was another world with monsters and the veil was thinnest on halloween. He goes there with his friend, whom was a girl, and while there they found the boys father who was cursed and stuck there in the form of twin monsters.

1970s children's book about a turtle who sees the future

A book I'm trying to find for my sister for her birthday

The book is old. It is about a rich German woman who falls in love with a Saudi prince but then he dies. She then loses her fortune and must work her way up again. After that she falls in love with another man, but he also dies. She finally falls in love with the final man and lives happily ever after.

British novel set in the 30's

This is a library book that had been sold when I went to re-read it. It is a 1930's era British novel about a group of casual friends including a young woman named Mab Chalmers, who has a crush on friend Robin. Mab is on the outskirts of the group because she has taken advantage of some of them to eke out her living expenses. For instance, Colin, an actor and well-born fellow, was embarrassed when she leaked a story to press about him--for money, and right after he had loaned her money to make her rent. Mab works as a decorator. Other characters are Lady Decima (who is killed), an artist and his wife, Robin's new wife who is involved in a murder investigation. Help? It had a red cover and possibly the author's last initial was in the first quarter of the alphabet. I know how lame that sounds. It was a really good book. I have gotten no leads online for the past several years. Thanks for clues!

I found it!

Holy cow, I spent all weekend reading everyone else's posts and picked up a ton of search tips. I even identified a few books for others. Finally found a reference to my book within another book in the Library of Congress. My book is Don't Shut Me Out by Laura Conway. And I found a used copy on Amazon. Thanks for this terrific site, I'll keep checking other folks' posts to try to help them.

Historical Children's book

Set in world war 1 or 2 (i think 1), about four young people, two sets of brother and sister. One set is a younger sister called Charlotte who can drive and an older brother who attends a school or college and refuses to join the army. in one scene he is offered a white flower and takes it with no shame. The other set is I think an older sister (maybe Mimi? probably not) who works in a corner shop (i think it's the family one) and falls in love with the college brother. Her younger? brother falls in love with Charlotte, gives her the nickname of Charlie and goes off to war. I'm not sure what happens, plot-wise, but I know the young brother dies and Charlotte is told about it by an army man who says his last words were to 'Charlie' which he didn't know referred to her. I read it around at 12 years old and i think that was the target audience age.

Romance novel

I've been searching for this book for over 10 years. I got the book from my grandmother. I loaned it to my mother who lost it. I can't remember the name, but the cover did have a house on a cliff. The story is about a young girl who's parents die in an archaeology dig. The girl is in college and she will only receive the inheritance if she goes for degree in archeology. I remember she was staying with some friends in a abandoned house because she didn't have money. The house gets condemned and then she has to say on the street. Her godfather or her father's best friend finds her and brings her to live with him. They end up falling in love. He does have child from a previous marriage. That's all I can remember about the story. Can anyone help with the name of the novel? Please. Thank you.

60's Photo Essay Children's Book about Adoption

This book made a real impression on me as a kid. Seems like it must've been a true story about this family who'd adopted a little girl from somewhere in Asia. It was hard cover, kind of large with only black and white photos of the family ( I think there may have been an older brother..?). The photos were great - I recall in particular one page where the mother had been trying to help her get comfortable in her first days with them and decided they'd have some fun baking. In one memorable photo, it shows where the girl must've turned on the blender too high and batter has flown EVVVVerywhere, including all over her pretty face and dress and hair. That image just sticks in my mind. And then there was another from the day they took her to court to become a naturalized citizen... I was very young when I found that book and it changed the course of my life. I knew with firm conviction from then onward that as long as there were children in the world who didn't have parents to care for them, who needed homes, I would only ever choose to adopt and would never give birth...and yet:::: I can NOT remember the name!!! Arg ; P

Library book

Cant remember about the name of the book but i do know it had cartoonish pictures about woman murdering woman in stockings and heels in the apartments.Thats about it.

Can’t find this book!!

It's this beautiful rich Italian girl who finds this guy who works on a boat who comes from a hard working family without a whole lot of money. She stoops below the standards her parents set for her because she loves him so much. But then they finally become content when he starts making enough money to support a family and decent home with her. So she goes off with him and neither of them ever worry about money again because that's not what's important to them in their relationship as long as they have their new small family and home.

An old movie I loved as a child.

I saw it in New Orleans, on tv about 9 o’clock on New Years night about 1958. It’s about an old man who saw his grandson was having trouble le understanding life, and gave him his diary as a child. The old man wasn’t allowed to sit at the table because he would spill his food. It straightened up the boy, and he demanded that the old man sit wit them. It was a powerful movie. Wish I could share that with my grandchildren.

Teen novel about a teenage girl

the book I had was a thin pocketbook with a blue background with a girl as cover. The teenage girl has divorced parents, the dad is remarried with two new step-children. I think the names are Ashley and Brad but I'm not sure. The are older than the teenage girl who is starting high school. Her mother is single and is dating. The girl feels like she's visiting her dads house instead of living there. I think she likes an older boy at school and she gets his help with a art project for art class.

I cant remember the name.

I have been trying to find the name of a book that I read in middle school. It follows a young boy who has a barn in his yard. One night he notices a light coming from the barn loft window, so he goes up and investigates. He finds out that the barn is haunted by the ghost of a young woman. He is told at some point in the story that he is a spiritual medium by a girl in his school who is seen as very weird by everyone in the school. He also has a sister who is very rude, and at one point she gets furious with him because when she was sneaking into the barn loft with her boyfriend the ghost appeared and her boyfriend got so scared that he ran away. She thought that it was a prank that her brother set up. I realy hope someone can help me find it.

Book from the 90's

OK - I'm not sure how many people will remember this series, and I've had this question answered before on another thread, but now I can't find it! When I was a teen in the mid-late 90's, I read a book series (I believe a trilogy) set on the California Coast about a girl named Darcy who, in the first book, gets into a car accident which paralyzes her. She learns to drive a car using hand-gears, etc. I'd love to find the books again! Thanks!

Darcy and Friends?

It sounds like the Darcy and Friends series by Joni Erikson Tada. Hope that helps!

Ya sci-fi book cannot remember title

Bear with me, this will be Extremely general, I have been searching for this book for years and years. I read it when I was about 13 so about 2008 at my local public library.. it's a young adult sci-fi book it's titled 'the un...'something. Like "the unforseen" but I feel like the word forbidden may be in there too, I don't remember. But I swear it's 'the un'.. And then the rest of the word I forgot. If I remember correctly, the main girls name starts with an X. She goes into a forest. I think maybe she hears voices? I remember there's a stream. And it's sci-fi I think there's another girl with long hair maybe? But I don't think she's normal like maybe a ghost or something. That's all I remember and I'm sorry haha. Pleease if you have any idea what I'm talking about, let me know. Thank you!

Please, help find this book

Hi, im having problems to find one book, i don’t remember the name but is about romance, i hope you can help me. All i can remember is that the book was about a red hair teacher that her sister and brother-in-law died in a car accident and now she has to take care of their children. She got a visit at school from a business man that was going to make a donation, during the visit felt really bad and they got to take him to hospital and barely survived. This man thought that the only reason he survived was because he had a mission, so he decided to marry the teacher so she can win the custody of the kids. Also, i remember that the man was orphan as a child and hated beans. Hope you can help me!
It was a book about a girl who was in the foster care with her friend Peaches. Her foster brother abused her and tortured her in the basement. She took it to protect the other kids. Later she finds a motorcycle gang and she draws a tiger named Rufus. It is about her learning to adapt to her new life.

1980's paperback I think

All I remember is it was a young woman who wrote it. I believe it was about a summer experience visiting a relative, and she got involved with a group or a gang of sorts. I seem to recall she called herself deseree or deseri or something of the like. The author actually visited our school. That's all I can remember, the title is somewhere in my head but it's evasive.

What is this book?

Want to find a book I don't know the name or author

I read a book when I was in school about a woman who married a man by proxy. It was set in England I think. She didn't trust him at first because of strange things that happened that alarmed her. she found out later that it was someone else and she and her husband were happy

This might be Ribbons of

This might be Ribbons of Silver by Katherine Myers.

Can only slightly remember plot line. No names or titles.

SO, I read this book probably 15 years ago now. Maybe even longer than that. I remember it being very science fiction and a bit mature for my age. I must've been around 11 at the time. The main plot is about multiple, I think 6, strangers who begin to realize they have special abilities, however they are obscure. The main male developes a sort of visual clairvoyance where he's able to see things before they happen in order to overcome them. It was in the form of maybe an orange glowing stream coming out of his chest. I also feel like I remember him directly using this power in order to win at Basketball. I also remember something about one of the female characters that developes in this story is that she is crazy obese, maybe her thing was she never stopped growing. I can't really remember. The final thing I remember is a young man trying intercourse for the first time, with the knowledge that his affliction could harm others, he ends up engulfed in blue flames and possibly turning into an alien like form. Anyways, their stories bring them together, yada yada, etc. I'm not sure, but I'd be interested in going back and seeing how the story really went. Appreciate any and everyone's help.

Fantasy/ witchcraft

The title page has trees and the bare branches are growing over a girl on a horse. I remember she has a little brother and they escape into the “haunted” forest. The girl is a witch like her mom and has her spell book.

He comes back to her one night while she’s thinking about him, only to leave again. Girl trying to find her mother, starts adventure on the way!

So I’ve been trying to find this book for years. Do not know the name or the author. This is all I remember and I apologize if any of this is in the wrong order. I think I read it like 10 years ago. The setting is in a city and I don’t remember the era. All I can remember is the women wear dresses and men were wearing 1800s clothes, I remember one of the male characters wearing a cloak. I believe is was set in a fantasy land too so not a historical book. Main character is a girl. She is trying to find her mother, her mom has been missing for some time. Somehow she becomes acquainted with the illegitimate son of the king. I remember they don’t really like each other at first. He has a scar on his face. Don’t remember how he got it. They both start looking for her mother I believe, and it turns into an adventure for both of them. I can’t really remember the middle part of the story but they become close. At the beginning of the ends of the book there is a royal funeral where all the royals wear white clothes, per the custom on that fantasy land. Also in the book you know who is rich or poor based on the clothes. I believe the rich wear this certain color a lot to show everyone that they are rich, I’m not sure if it’s white. After the funeral there is a big fight with the royal family against the illigimate son and the girl maybe because the royal family finds out that they are spending time together(can’t remember why they are mad). They both escape and go to the prison as they are running for their lives( not really sure why they went there, maybe saw a clue into her mother’s disappearance). While they are there they see the girls mother who is in prison, turns out the mother is pregnant! As all three of them try to escape the baby is born(girl) and the mother dies from blood loss. So the girl, Kings son and the girls baby sister try to make it out of the city. As they reach the city’s gates the soldiers try to close it on them. The kings son gives the baby back to her sister, kisses her (this might have been in another part of the story) and pushes her out of the gates. So she is outside the gates while he is inside. She bolts and finds a horse to ride on. I believe the epilogue is she and her baby sister gets saved in the wilderness, a group of people save them. (I think it was hot with a lot of sand because both girls where dehydrated I think). The baby is in critical condition from the ride. The group informs the girl that if her baby sister dies then she will be put to death, as that was their punishment I think. The end. It’s so frustrating to know so many things about this book yet I can’t remember all of it, the name or the author. It’s been driving me crazy! Can you help me?

Thriller/ suspense novel?

The books cover has black and green and is either an empty dark road or one with a car. All I can remember is the father and husbands wife is killed in a car accident or murdered and finds out that she had been involved in an affair.

Can’t find this book!!

So I’ve read this book a few years ago, but I can’t reme it’s tile or author. It’s about a teenager who’s mom is an alcoholic and she takes care of her. She is a great artist and doesn’t talk to many people. One day she is at a coffee shop where some girls at school are making fun of her and this guy on a bike comes up to her and acts like her boyfriend to save her from humiliation. He ends up having a lot of money from his late childhood bestfriends’s parents, and he hasn’t spent much of it, so he uses it to give her the makeover of her dreams. Later in the book her mom gets a new boyfriend and he tries to rape her, but she gets away she calls her new friend and he picks her up and she ends up moving in with him. And in the end they are together and he buys her a car with one of her drawings on the side. Help!!!

Mystery teenage girl book

Hey I read a book back in my middle school years. So 2008-2010. It was about a girl who found out she was a clone of her sister who died on her 14 birthday. And when it was her turn to turn 14 her parents were heartbroken and I believe sent her off... but she survived passed the expected date that her sister died and that’s how she found out she was clone because her parents explained to her what had happen. I believe the cover of the book was blue and black and the title was one word... I’m not too sure. Please help me find it. It was a very intriguing book.

It's called Double Identity

It's called Double Identity by haddix

It's called Double Identity

It's called Double Identity by Margret Haddix. I only know because I've been searching for a clone book that brought up similar results. And I read most of the book in my process of looking for my clone book that I can't remember, but it wasn't the one I was looking for. If you know something that matches this description, let me know: Looking for book I read when I was 13, which was probably the appropriate age too. Read it in school. It's about clones. It starts with a girl and there's mention at the beginning that even though science improved humans through cloning, they couldn't get rid of acne, so she has a pimple. Anyway, she meets her clone, I think through rock climbing, and then the two meet these old clone ladies that are part of some kind of hierarchy. At the end, the two girls are ready to jump into a first death, but the old ladies take their places and this some how starts some kind of freedom for the community. That's all I can remember.

I think the book you are looking for is V.C. Andrews, My Sweet Audrina. Happy reading!

I'm attempting to remember

I'm attempting to remember this one novel- all I can recall is that this young girl meets this man whose seemingly friendly and loving, only to get bitten by him (revealed that he's a vampire! oh no! spooky!). she slowly develops vampiric traits in front of her friends and family (such as some scenario having to do with liking blood off of meat during a 'supposed-to-be-normal' meal), as this man manipulates her in attempt to convince her to stay with him, saying that her loved ones will never understand. i think it was placed in a new town, or something? its driving me nuts.

English family in Ceylon in 1930s?

I read a book back in 2008 and my lent it to my mother who then gave it away. It was about a family who was living in Ceylon and was told from the point of view of the youngest daughter. She befriended a young wealthy boy her age who was living with his uncle. He had some kind of "spells or seizures. The father in the story was abusive. I cannot for the life of me remember the title.

What is the name of this book

I can’t remember much but this one girl was overweight I think and I think she was trying to lose weight. One day she came home from school and was like “what’s wrong with me, why is this here” (or something like that) and it was her hip bone. And I think she had to switch schools or something and she liked/or was dating this one boy. I think she’s Hispanic.

Can’t remember name of this book

I don't remember much about the plot, but I remember the cover showed a young girl with braids and I’m pretty sure she had green eyes and was holding a green pendant or stone. The edges of the book were brown. I think the girls name started with an A and pretty sure there was something about a tower involved and a magical fox/animals. It was a fantasy novel from I think the early 2000s for middle school children. I remember at one point the girl had to play chess against someone and solve optical illusions or something but can’t fully remember.

Finding a book series

There was a kids book series I read a long time ago, it was about two sibling who kinda terrorized a town with just themselves and their weird fluffy pet thing from inside their giant creepy mansion. This was a very tim burton esque kids book series and I miss reading it, if anyone recognises this plot and knows the book I'm talking about please let me know

Book I read as a teen

Hmmm I swore it was one of them. The girl it herself and lived with her grandma and the gay guy was taken in and abused by the man who took him in and ended up realizing he wasn't gay. Then the guy who shot himself said he shot himself in the chest so he didnt become a vegetable because of sibling competition and ended up jumping off a cliff in the end after getting a note from home

Can’t remember

I read a book about two or three years ago and the cover was a girl swimming underwater. It was about a girl who I think was a competitive diver and had a bad accident while diving and ended up in a coma for at least a year maybe more. When she wakes up she has to go to physical therapy and I think she falls in love with one of the guys who works there after she finds out her boyfriend and best friend got together.

90's science fiction book

I read a couple of books many years ago about a traveler between dimensions. each dimension was loosely based on the 7 deadly sins. Our world was lust, another was gluttony. The third book appeared to be never released. The author had a Native American sounding surname. Trying to remember the name of the books...

Help finding a book

I read this book over 10 years ago but was a stand alone book titled "Vampire". The main story takes place in modern America where the main vampire tells you about how he became what he is. he tells you that he was a sailer under the command of hernan cortez and that when they came in to contact with the Aztecs they worshiped what they thought was a god that went by the name Quetzalcoatl, which in fact was actually a vampire. When conflict arose the main character tried to kill the vampire and got bitten as a last ditch revenge thing from the vampire god for trying to kill him as they both get buried under a temple. He then wakes hundreds of years later to what is modern america. If anyone recalls this book plz get back to me. Other then the title the only other things i remeber is that it was only printed in paperback, it was a plan black book with the Titled printed in Green Font and the author was from south Texas.

Can anyone please help me find the book

HELP!!!

I am pretty sure this was THE book that got me into reading in the first place, from there I went on to find just as long as we’re together by Meg Cabot and my reading phase/addiction just began. I can’t remember much about the book but it was in grade 6 (2012/2013) and I found it in our class library I think it was a young adult book you know right along with Meg Cabot and Jen Calonita kind of books. Anyways I remember it being summer in the book and then there was a boy And I don’t remember if he was rich or not but I think he came to spend the summer in that town or something like that and it there was a boat I don’t know if was a boat or yacht I don’t think it was a yacht though that’s too extravagant but it was something along those lines and she had a green bikini I’m not sure if the bikini really was green but the green word really pops out to me whenever I think about this book so I’m thinking that the bikini was green and she’s really proud about this bikini and she was always with them or maybe It was just him on the yacht (but not a yacht) sunbathing or something like that and that’s literally all I can remember so if this triggers any memory please give any names/title because I always at some point once a month remember this book and search Google trying to figure it out with the little information I have and will always come up short so please help me

Please help can't find this book and it's driving me nuts LOL

I found the book at a yard sale sometime between 1994- 1998 and the book did not look new so I really don't know what year it was published. What also doesn't help is I really can't remember more than two characters names. I will put down some of the details that I remember from the book maybe that'll help. The main character is going home from school with her friend to visit the friend's family (friend is a woman). The friend's housekeeper and two brothers live there. One brother's name is Donald; you find out toward the end of the book that he is impudent from an accident and he is also a villain. The other brother I cannot remember his name but he's described as handsome, is known as a bit of a player, and has a sports car. There is also a housekeeper named Ursula who you find out later in the book has been dressing up as a man and putting nylon stockings over her face so that she can sneak into the bedroom of the main character's friend to take advantage of her during the night. The housekeeper has been doing this throughout the friend's life. In one part of the book the brother whose name I can't remember takes the the main character out for a horseback ride. During the ride the main character turns around in the saddle to look at the house and she has an accident with the horse. Upon further inspection the saddle had a needle in it that was poking into the horses back every time the main character would shift in the saddle. The main character had a few other close calls but I can't remember what they were. There are some clues that try to get you believing that the brother whose name I can’t remember is the perpetrator but he’s not. It turns out to be Ursula; she is threatened by the main character and wants her out of the picture so Ursula tries to get rid of her by setting up all kinds of accidents. I can give a few more details. In the first chapter the main character and her female friend are in a car and crossing some kind of bridge that was surrounded by the ocean and it was during a storm at night. The main character’s friend talks about a secret lover that turns out to be Ursula the housekeeper disguising herself as a man at night in the dark. Both of the friend’s brothers like the main character. The main character finds out about what Ursula has been doing to her friend and that Ursula has been trying to scare the main character into leaving by causing accidents. Ursula then locks the main character in a cell that is either in a tower or a dungeon. Donald finds the main character in the cell and that is when you find out he’s insane. Also I believe the house the main character is visiting is a castle or at least a mansion in the middle of the ocean or big body of water. Any help anyone can give would be great! Thanks in advance.

Finding a Book -YA Fantasy-

Unfortunately, this book is from when I was in middle school so this is about the most I remember about said book. There were 3 around 15 -ish kids 2 boys and 1 girl. They somehow enter a hollowed out tree (I think) and get into a minecart that takes them to the center of the earth. There might be a crow with them? Not sure. The reach the center and are welcomed by a self-sustaining group of people with powers that are bestowed upon them with runes. The MC (One of the boys) goes into the pond where they get their runes and comes out with a singular black stone with a white rune engraving. The other boy goes in a gets a knowledge type rune and I can't remember what the girl got maybe something with strength or animals? They get put into this academy where someone challenges the MC to a fight. One way or another the Smart Kid figures out that MC can use other rune powers if he knows what they are and what power they hold. That is about as far as I can remember but I really want to re-read and finish the book. Any ideas? I can't go to google because all I get in the novel "Journey to the Centere of the Earth" which is far from the ook I remember.

Romance novel e-book

It was a book about a college student who liked photography and one of her teachers started to like her and they started to date in secret. She finds out that he is kind of married, but only until the girl he is married to gets money from her father. The teacher also has a twin brother. The main character works at a bar/nightclub thing. The teacher and girl exchanged emails a bit and I remember that he would call her angel.

Desperately searching for book-Any help welcome

The book was set in a modern setting, not much different than real life, aside from the fact that at random, people would be selected to die/pass on peacefully. The main character, a young school girl, receives one of the indicative red envelopes in the mail, stating that she has been chosen. Each person who is selected is designated a spirit, kind of like a shinigami to cross them over. The only way to escape the fate of death is to discover your spirit's 'secret rule.' In the end, it turns out the rule for her spirit was that she had to give her own exemption from death to someone else in order to save them, which she does by giving her grandfather's exemption that was passed on to her to another teenager from her town, thus saving both of them.

Help me find this book

I read this book a lot when I was younger and seem to have lost it. I thought it was called The Door by who I can't remember. I have googled for it and can't seem to find it. It was a really old book, it was about a creepy man with a truck made out of doors and he would sell random items to people in the town. There was a girl who had this very off feeling about him. One day he brings her a door and he sets it up for her in her backyard I think, and tells her that it is her door and no one else's. When she opens the door she enter a different place that is more foggy and Misty and she meets these children who all gather at this tree and tell her she should join them with the lost things. That's all I can remember about the book but i was hoping someone would know what I was talking about so I can search it directly and try and find a used copy of it to buy.

Pleade help me find this YA book

I only remember vague details. The main character is a teen. As a child she was trained (likely to kill). She's a talented artist and ambidextrous. She became ambidextrous when her male instructor crushed her left hand with a rock. She has blonde hair and light eyes (likely green however they could also be blue or grey) her hair was likely dyed in the book to hide her identity. The book is part of a trilogy. In a later book the main character meets her mother. There is romance in the trilogy. I read the book around 2015. The most defining trait is the main character is ambidextrous with a childhood trauma (maybe amnesia) and talent in drawing.

Looking for a book I read a

Looking for a book I read a number of years ago about the aftermath of WWII. If I remember correctly, there is a French girl who meets a German boy who has lost his memory. At the very end, he remembers that he is Jewish and that the Nazis had murdered his family. I believe the title has the word "chateau" in it, though I can't remember for sure, and that the cover was very plain, maybe just a tan or a brown color. It was a relatively old book. Kind of depressing, of course, but I remember it being a book that got you thinking. Thanks!

Could this book be Castle to Castle (originally in French) by Louis-Ferdinand Celine?

Help me find this title

I've searched Google with all of the keywords I can think of but I get no hits. I read this book several years ago set in the Regency period. Three destitute sisters live as dependents with their uncle(?). If the uncle dies everything goes to his brother and the girls will be put out on the street. When the uncle dies one of the girls takes on his persona. The sisters go to London and she/he becomes the toast of the town (He's called Mr. North). Lots of stuff take place and then they get word that the brother died and all of his wealth now goes to Mr. North. They devise a strategy for killing off Mr. North but not before she/he writes a will bequeathing everything to his poor relations. There's comic stuff that happens throughout the book. It was a great read.

Book titled “Janet”

I remember reading a book in high school that I think was titled “Janet” but I’ve been searching for months and haven’t found any books by that title that fit the story. I only remember it’s about a girl that was away at boarding school and her step-father picks her up and they take the train back home where he proceeds to abuse her. She deals with a lot of abuse but stays strong and eventually becomes a very strong, independent young lady. There are French undertones and I recall one part where she knows her step-father will be coming to abuse her so she inserts razor blades to injure him. I only had it in hardback so I’m not sure if it was ever in paperback. Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you!

After she does it she goes to a carnival and then soemthing happens that makes her run home straight to the bathroom and she drinks either bleach or acid and her grandparents have to break the bathroom door open to get to her and take her to the hospital.. What is this book!?!!?

Old book in great Aunts Collection

My great aunt has thousands of books in her home, im talking rooms and rooms of them. As a child i remember adventuring thru and found a book, i believe had a blue hard cover. It was a story of a kid or brother/sister combo who found a broken down home and one night a kid ghost they follow into the home and fall thru the floor and discover the entire family of the ghost skeletons. I think there was a treehouse before that they found too with a note in the floorboards like a diary not of the kid ghost. But ive looked for years to find the book again in her collection to no avail.

Young adult/juvenile fiction, I CANT REMEMBER THE NAME OF A BOOK

I read this book back in 7th grade and i absolutely loved it, the book was white and had a face of a white girl with green eyes or blue but pretty sure they were green. I think her name was Linda. She was around 13, 14, 15, or 16. Her mom would always go out with a lot of guys so she always had to babysit her two younger brothers, stepbrothers, I think. The book also didn't have any quotation marks even though there was dialogue in it. It starts off by her or her mom shooting one of their male adult friends in a parking lot, or I think it was another family friend who killed him because they found out that the main character was having a romantic relationship with him. She had fallen in love with one of her mom's adult friends and they end up living together for a while I think. I also remember that they went to live with their grandpa for a while, but they didn't have anything to eat and they would go to the grocery store or like a mini mart to get food at night. I also remember her having her "first boyfriend" or something like that, but all they would do at night, is lay on a mattress outside and watch the stars, and "kiss until they ran out of breath". I mean there's more but that's all I really remember hopefully, someone reads this and knows the book I'm talking about.

Book I had that I want again

Hey everybody, is anyone familiar with a scholastic book that was a monthly subscription. Every month you got a new chapter of the book with a corresponding crystal that went on a wind chime. The book itself was a girl that went on a journey and as she learned magic she got a crystal for that particular magic. The subscription was canceled I believe before the book was completed so I didn’t keep it but I would love to see if there is a complete book or have it again.

In the early 1980’s, I read a mystery book about some kids solving a mystery regarding a Stradivarius violin. I remember they used a flashlight at some point. I think there were two teenagers as the main characters. I do know that it wasn’t a Nancy drew, or 3 investigators, hardy boys, bobbsey twins, boxcar kids. I have searched all of those.

Mystery

So a few years ago I read this novel and have been looking for it ever since.... It's a mystery novel about this guy who thinks women are goddesses and stalks and kidnaps them. Romance series

About 10+ years ago I read some amazing romance books that were about 3 or 4 guys who ran an exclusive extreme adventures club. Each book was focused on 1 different male founder of this club and his romantic life. They were GREAT books and I cannot for the life of me remember the author or the names of the books. I looked through all my old books at home and cannot find the ones I am looking for.

I can’t remember the title of this book and I’m going nuts!

I read this book some years back and I can’t seem to remember any of the names! It’s about a girl who doesn’t have a family and is hitchhiking at a truck stop. Somehow she can see this man in her mind, like they are telepathically connect. The truck driver who gives her a ride ends up being a crazy man and the girl is saved by the man she is mentally connected to. She calls him the whistling man and when she is saved they are in this town called Unknown in the state of Louisiana. I’ve been googling for week and I’m no closer to finding it.

I found it!

I finally found it and it’s called Vailed Eyes by C.L. Bevill

Book with no cover. Romance.

My friend read this book that had no cover. It was following this boy in senior year who had a big crush on his friend. He would write about her in this journal everyday. He would refer to the girl as ‘My her’ so if anyone read it, no one would know who it was about. Time skip to after they’ve graduated. They get in a nasty accident. The boy is fine, but the girl is in a coma. Everyday the boy visits her. He talks to her about what’s happening, and he reads a passage from that journal about her. Fast forward again. She’s out of the coma, and they’re at her place hanging out. When he goes home, he accidentally leaves the journal at her house. She finds it and reads it. To her it sounds familiar because of the whole ‘you can hear things when you’re in a coma’. He rushes back and looks for the book which she is holding. They kiss. Become a couple. -Spoilers- And the book basically ends with him on his death bed talking to the girl and the teenage son they’ve adopted. He calls the girl his ‘Her’ and the son they’re ‘us’

What’s the name of this mystery book?

I haven’t read this myself but my mom has in the 80’s and it’s about 2 siblings, brother and sister, who solve mysteries from their hostel in England.

Woman has a one night stand but she's engaged

I've tried searching for this book and I can't find it! A woman who's getting married soon has a one night stand. She thinks she'll never see him again but he ends up being her fiance's brother she's never met. They are supposed to get married at a ski lodge or chateaux in France or Switzerland. There are also some family dynamics but I can't remember the specifics. I want to say the woman is a successful lawyer or businesswoman but don't quote me on that. She ends up breaking off the engagement and getting together with the brother and her fiance winds up with her friend I think. If I remember correctly the cover was light blue and illustrated with a wedding cake or a bride falling or both.

Looking for a book

I am looking for a book I read many years ago. It's about a young girl who contracted polio. I think it was based in Scotland, because her family lived out in the middle of the glens. Her dad was off somewhere and robbers came to her house.....she pulled herself down the stairs and out to the barn, where she climbed up on a horse and ran for the sheriff. Anyone have a clue on this? I don't recall whether it was in Readers Digest Condensed books or what.

Ouija board on the cover

I read this book in the 90’s or early 2000’s. I don’t remember much, but there was an ouija board on the cover and I remember a bunch of teenagers used the board at a party and started dying one by one after using it.

Please Help me find this book for my mom

My mom has been telling me about this book for a few months and can’t think of the name. It may have came out in the 80’s or 90’s. All she can remember is: It’s set in the old west. The women is running away from her step father because he raped her. So since she ran away she has became a whore. Not a very good one because she gives all her money away to people who need help. Anyways the man is a Indian his name may be Cat. She gets him drunk and says she’s going to sleep with him but she knocks him out and steals his money. So she’s running from him. She has a oxen that she puts a bonnet on. She’s going through Indian territory so she sings to scare them off. She can’t carry a tune. She has one green eye and one blue eye. She has long red hair. Also my mom thinks on the cover of the book the women has long red hair and the Indian man is holding her.

In the book this girl (maybe a teen) and her mother were pretty poor, but the girl had this immense writing talent and her mom had named her or called her by a famous authors name (Hemingway? harper?). Anyway the mom had like a miscarriage or something and there was a baby sister and I remember one scene that described this yellow baby onesie. Oh and they also end up moving to some hotel bc they can't afford rent.

Science fiction from 70's

Looking for info on a Science fiction book I read in the early 70's about a scientist who discovered a poisonous substance that could resurrect the dead and used it to bring back scientists to try and control it. I think they contained it with trucks circling a poisoned area spraying something to stop its spread. I think Madame Curie was one of the restored scientists.

Blue

So, please help me. I read this book just a few years ago when my school took us to a library. Its about a boy who lives with his grand father and his parents. His mom has a baby, a girl, and he gets to name her, so he names her blue. They all go to bed, but in the morning he hears his mother screaming and crying, and finds out that Blue was taken, and in her place is an extremely ugly, screaming baby. He then goes on an adventure in the land of faeries to find his baby sister.

Young Adult/Children’s Book?

I read this in elementary school in the 90’s so it would have been written by the mid to late 90’s. Story was about a young girl who lived in a village with I believe her aunt in a house up on a hill. I remember the house had a wildflower garden in the front yard where they left gifts “for the fairies” and then in the back there was a circling herb garden with a tree in the center that grows many types of fruit I think? The girl finds that upstairs her aunt weaves a beautiful magical tapestry, and that her mother? is an evil witch, she goes through an initiation ceremony and becomes a witch her self and learns to fly? That’s all I can remember right now. But I have been trying to find the book for a long time. Any help much appreciated!!

Twins, One dies

Ok, so it's a single book I read back in high school...It's twin sisters, one's super popular and the family's favorite. The other is quiet and shy. Well they go on vacation or something with these necklaces that have their names one them, the popular twin ends up getting shot and dies. The shy twin takes over the popular twins life. But the parents notice she's acting different. Come to find out the popular twin actually had schizophrenia or something and the only person who can tell the twins apart is the mom by feeling for a scar on the back of her head from when she fell when she was little.

Book with a man on a roof

Forgot the title of this bestseller, must be somewhere after 2016 I think, with on the cover a man sitting head down on a roof. It's not the title but it says something like "could you spend so many hours on a roof?" WHO KNOWS?! Help me! :)

Help me remember the name of this book

I can’t remember the title or much from the book but I only remember one part. I think it’s about a teenage girl and she goes to a party and gets drunk. Then she sits on a pool chair and then she feels a guy on top of her and his hands are in her shirt and bra. That’s all I remember.

Young adult book about drugs

I read this book in 6th grade that I don’t remember the title to. It was about a man who met a woman who does drugs (I’m assuming LSD) and they hallucinate together and with a group of people. At one point he was being arrested and thought the police were animals or monsters and began fighting them. I believe after he made a deal with the police to give them the location of the next group drug session. During the event, the man tells the girl to take a sugar cube instead of the drug. I don’t remember anything else from the book. It’s driving me crazy not knowing what this book was!

Two Fraternal Twins like Chalk and Cheese

A new attractive American teenage guy moves into this British town. The fraternal twin's dad had a boss who relocated from the U.S. to the U.K. The son comes round to dinner and one the "attractive" twin is immediately interested. I believe her name was Rose. Because American teen is not interested in Rose, her fraternal sister assumes he is gay and they become friends. This couldn't be further from the truth and after a series of misunderstandings they end up in a relationship. I read this book as a teenager and it came into my mind, but I can't remember the name and it is not coming up in a google search.

Can't remember

I don't remember much about the book because it's been quite awhile and my memory is terrible. But I read a book that I found in the free ebook section on Amazon about this teen girl who was kind of overweight and awkward but began to change suddenly (clear skin, lost weight, less awkward, etc.) and it turns out that she's a vampire along with her family and this guy that she's been friends with forever that didn't mind being around her when she was the overweight awkward girl because he knew eventually she would become the beautiful vampire that she was meant to be. That's all I remember but have been wanting to reread it because I know when i finished the book i was waiting for the second one to be released.

Murder mystery thriller

This is the story I read one I was in six grade I believe that it was published in 1970s through 1980s. It is a murder mystery where I believe a young boy witnesses a very mean wretched old woman that lives across the way from him, murdered through a window. He believes he’s being stalked by the murder it’s self. Can someone help me remember this book? This seems to be what I can recall. I believe the front cover of the book had a woman’s partial face with binoculars and spiderwebs with spiders dangling from them?

The older sister then has to hunt down the old evil man to try and get the 'hex' removed. She does and its a happy ending. I think the old man has the stamp used on him. Published: Possibly the 70's or 80's and I think it was a female author but I am not 100% sure. Childrens / Teenagers section If anyone can help me find this book I will be so grateful. The Changeover

The Changeover by Margaret Mahy.

Forgot book title

So, this book I read about 10-15 years ago and I just can’t remember the title!! It’s a fantasy book where there were 2 princesses the youngest was I believe 16 or so and she feel in love with the wizards apprentice. Wizards could fly I think. And then the ppt gets confusing, but I remember something about a dragon. I also remember that this princess was at one point suspicious of the apprentice because he didn’t leave footprints (apparently that how you could discern the enemies) until he told her that since he can fly, he usually hover above the ground, instead of walking. I remember she made him take off his shoes, because she believed they could be the one making the footprint and when he did, he told her that the feet of all wizards were very hairy and ugly. I think the title is the name of the kingdom and it may start with an A, but I’m not completely sure.

The Two Princesses of Bamarre

The Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine! I love this book and until I reread it a few years ago the only part I could remember was that part with the specter and the footprints. :D

At the end of the book the horse realizes it is the sister he is meant to protect because she can hear him speak to her. And at that point the brother has already headed down the path to being her enemy.

Book about East Germany

I had a book I loved growing up in the 80s. It was about a young high jumper in East Germany. Would have been a teenage girl. Eventually she manages to escape to the west, I think on a train. It might have been after she was selected to compete, or she skipped a competition to escape. Any help in remembering what it was would be so helpful!

Possibly hopeless request...

I've been looking for a book that I started reading years ago but never got to finish. It was a fantasy story, all I can remember about it is that there was a snobby witch with a number name, either Twelve or Seven, and a dwarf and they lived together, possibly in a tree? And one day they found a young boy and took him in. I'm pretty sure there was another character living with them but I remember absolutely nothing about him Othery than that it was a him because I remember the witch was the only girl.
I read this book when I was about 15 or 16 years old so the details are fuzzy. The cover had a boy who was half wolf on it? The illustrations on the book cover were vivid and different. The book is about a teen boy that is unhappy at home and finds a portal into an alternate world. There is a girl (with blue hair, piericings and a unique punk-ish style) I think) who he falls for, her name was something like Raven maybe not sure on that. I remember specifically she was not attractive but he falls for her because of her grit and street smarts. She drives a motorcycle in the book. He turns into a half wolf boy at some point and I think it has something to do with the magic of the world he is in. They have adventures and its good against evil. It appeals to the teen misfit reader, I believe it was a trilogy. If anyone can help me out in anyway, I have had this nagging the back of my mind for years. Much thanks!!

What is the name of the three books in this series ?

I’m racking my brains trying to remember the title(s) of this series of 3 books. An older man, dying of a disease takes a cruise. A ship is hit by a comet but instead of dying there and then, he wakes up in the body of another man, in a desert. A large cat, big enough to ride he discovers to be mind-linked with him. He discovers that the body he inhabits belonged to someone who wasn’t the most upstanding of people. The world in which he finds himself is in danger of being flooded by water because a mountain barrier that prevents a sea from filling the desert is weakening and the lives of everyone are in peril. His mission becomes that of saving this new world and community.

I cant remember the title of this book

I'm trying to look for this book series for teens. There is 3 total books in the series. All I remember from the books is a girl on earth goes to an auction and buys something and on her way home she gets taken to another world where the goddess looks exactly like her and they switch places. The original goddess is evil and tries to kill the new one. The world is of horse people. They go to war with demons that take women and kill them. Please help me find this book series!

This book is about a girl who lives in a compound. She was like artificially made or something. There is a scientist who is trying to create a race of people who can't die. The main character, a girl, is the only one apart of this race. It took many generations of mating for her to be born immortal. Her room has huge windows that overlooks a forest. There is an electric fence that surrounds the compound. She always wanted to leave the compound but she isn't allowed. She is training to become part of the team that made her. There is a flower called elisia, idk how to spell it, that helped make her. Her mother dislikes her and she barely sees her dad. Then, a new person named Aunt Harriet, that she doesn't like at first, comes to the compound to live and work there. She gives the character a map of the world. The outside world is hidden from her so she has no desire to leave. There is many secrets of the compound being hidden from her. One night, the fence's electricity stops. This book genre is - similar to books by Jeffrey Archer/Frederick Forsyth/ Sydney Sheldon/ Grisham. I read this in 2007. The protagonist wants someone killed so he hires a professional killer called "Angel" from South America. When the protagonist meets this killer in a hotel, he finds that she is a woman. She is ugly looking and mid-aged. She asks the protagonist for Sex and he obliges her inspite of his repulsion for her. I would be really grateful for any info on this book. Thank you

Need help finding the title of this book!

In highschool I read this fictional book about a young girl whose father had just gotten back from WWI, I believe. The father ended up moving the family to another town into this hotel. The girl developed a huge crush on an older boy that she met there. He was kind of mysterious and showed up at random times. There was another boy that worked at the motel and he really liked her. The worker and the girl ended up going on a date at the beach. In the end of the book the girl and the older boy meet somewhere away from the hotel and she ends up finding out that all along her mom was having an affair with the young man.

Book

I’ve read this book ONCE way back and always wanted to re-read it but I have no idea what the title is! From what I remember it’s a woman who gets in a car accident and wakes up in the hospital with no memory and she has a doctor husband.. ends up meeting an angel in a bookstore.. she starts to remember water (I think) and can hear other voices and her doctor “husband” turns out to be some super natural being (vampire?) and she realizes she has been in a coma and her real family are waiting for her to get up but her evil husband is trying to keep her until they pull the plug? I know at the end she wakes up and the angel reappears!

Helppp lol

In the book, there is a woman who fan look someone in the eye and see if they are a killer and she joins this Mossad agent who helps her. The killers or ”apex predators” can also recognize her for what she is. She needs help staying alive after they find out she had this ability. These apex humans are basically culling this ability out of the world so they can ”hunt” without getting found out.

A book I would love to read

A book I would love to read again is a man remembering childhood summers in Greece guessing in the 50s or 60s. It was mainly about the plants, places, animals and people there... Maybe autobiography?

I bet that this is "My Family

I bet that this is "My Family and Other Animals" by Gerald Durrell. It has been made into a series on PBS called "The Durrells in Corfu."

Need help finding a book title

I read a book a long time ago that I’ve always wanted to re-read it but can’t remember the title. It was late 70’s or early 80’s. A dark psychological thriller about a runaway girl who is living in the woods living by stealing from neighboring farms and I believe she finds a dairy goat also. She is very lonely and finds an injured hiker who she falls in love with but who later dies leaving her pregnant. She spirals into insanity and keeps his bones and is eventually found by angered townspeople when they are searching for her missing lover. I cannot remember the title and would love to read it again.

Can't remember the title

I can't remember the title of a book that I read just this past year. A few family members came in to see him, said it was him, and took him home. He later finds out that the family is hiding something. Spoilers ahead!! This secret, which he figures out with his new "brother" is that the missing child that his is pretending to be was killed by a few members of the family and they accepted his act to hide their secret. Please help me! This was a fantastic book but I can't seem to remember the title!

Help locating author and book titles

Hello! I’m looking for a series of fictional thriller/suspense novels by a Canadian female author, who has a background/education in social work. I don’t remember her name or the titles of the two books of hers that I have read. Both books involve the same main female character; she (I believe) grew up in the foster care system. She is presented as “tough” (eg, physically fights with an adult man in one of the stories). She lives in a small apartment. This main female character works at a women’s shelter and secretly helps women escape abusive situations and/or she locates women who are in abusive situations. One of the stories includes her navigating through treacherous winter conditions. The novels are set in Canada. I believe one of them might have “red” in the title.

Older book

Been trying to find a book i once had. A teenager, his dad and I think his uncle are out hunting in the wilderness and they get snowed in this valley for the winter. They make soap for washing from the lye in the ashes from the fire mixed with the rendered day from the animals they had killed. They also shoot a ptarmigan and roll it in the mud and bake it over the coals. When the bird is done they crack the dried mud off and eat the bird. In the end I think they hike out.

Detective novel. A dwarf and a giant were suspects.

A murder in closed room. Detective proceeds the investigaton based on bullet trajecktory and murder height. The shooter is probably a dwarf standing on the window-sill. Another version - a giant. And 3d and true version is about the normal man who were standing on the pedestal. I suppose, the novel is the classical british one.

Trying to find a book about Faeries

The main character is a water faerie, I believe. She goes down a road that only faeries can use because of their wings, but due to her carelessness gets them torn from her back by faerie poachers. With no way to return to the faerie world, she has to learn to live like humans. I can't remember how long ago I read it, but I remember her carrying the Queens Dagger, which I think she loses in that poaching but tries to find back later in the story. Thanks in advance!

Fiction

I only remember i read this book as a child it was a chapter book i think and it had a cover page of a boat and two kids i think pointing to an island ,it was about these two kids (boy and a girl ) who leave their home because something was occurring, there's this man that supposedly invented a pen and hes a captain and somehow they all get together and leave to this island and there's this handsome man on the boat with them that is tall and strong ,i forgot his name but its not that hard and well this snake women from the island falls in love with him and has him hostage so the kids try and save him.

I'm not sure but this sounds

I'm not sure but this sounds like it could be one of the Magic Tree House series of books by Mary Pope Osborne. My daughter had all of these when she was a kid and I remember one with a cover like you describe.

Young adult novel

I’m looking for a book about a teenaged girl named Alison who is new in town and is having trouble making new friends. It would seem she could only find what is called fair weather friends because she has a pool in her back yard. I read this book back in 1989

Can’t remember the name of this book

I read a book a few years ago and really enjoyed it. But I don’t know what it’s called. All I remember about it is it had something to do with two kids that were staying in this really old house that had a really old tree in the front yard, and for some reason they had to burn the tree in order to escape either the house or something else (I don’t know which), and they were stuffing old letters into the tree, that was the only way to kill it. I think the tree was like alive.

DON'T KNOW THIS BOOK

I've read this book awhile back online and now I can't stop thinking about it, thing is I don't remember the title or author... From what I can remember it's about a human woman that goes searching for a killer but winds up held captive by wherewolves. does any one know the title? and Author?

Late 70s-80s YA novel

If it wasn’t published in the late 70s- early 80s, it was definitely set in them. The main character is a teenage boy whose dad moves them from nyc to California. Probably LA. The dad complains about not being able to get a good bagel in CA. He also perms his hair and starts wearing his shirts unbuttoned and gold chains and going to EST meetings. I think the kid’s mom died and the dad is terribly sad and lonely and trying to start over. They live in apartment complex with a hot tub and a blonde neighbor who has long nails and hits on him. She tells him he’d love to feel her nails in his chest hair and the kid just thinks that he doesn’t have any chest hair and is scared to go in the hot tub thinking of the neighbor doing sex things in it. He has a best friend whose name I think is Finn. The friend’s dad is a big movie mogul and the kid has money to burn. He gives his friend a classic car. The kid is from NYC and doesn’t know how to drive so he learns. He meets this girl (maybe she and her mom live in the apartment complex?) they don’t have an answering machine. She is a feminist and doesn’t shave his legs. He was freaked out by her at first but then he falls in love with her. I remember him describing her leg hair as soft and springy and her saying she loves being able to feel the wind in it. The boy, Finn, and the girl drive to the shore one day and are relaxing on the beach. The kid is talking out loud, admiring the curves and headlights of his classic car. The girl thinks he is objectifying women on the beach and gets mad, it’s a silly scene but it stuck in my head. She goes to Berkeley, and at the end I think he gets in too and they move into an apartment together.

Teenage romance

I can’t remember the name or much of anything about this book. A teenage girl (only lived with her father) fell in love with this outcast guy. His family was rich and very private. He had a brother???? But his brother was a bad guy. Jealous. Hateful. Did anything to separate the two of them. The brother made him do things he regretted. The book ended in the girl and her best friend witnessing the brother die in a car crash on a hill. But my memory keeps making me think the boyfriend died that same moment because he risked his life to protect her from the brother???

A children's book from long ago!

I'm trying to t=remember a book from when I was a small child. Here are the fuzzy details that I can remember: I think it was a children's book or picture book. What I remember is that a child, a boy, hides his small treasures (coin? Other small items) in a small box and I believe it was behind a brick in a wall, or maybe it was under a stone of a sidewalk. I was from the 1970's, or maybe the 60's? Does this ring a bell?

YA book: “Love, ___”

This YA book was published around 2010 and I’m pretty sure the title was “Love, [insert main character’s name]”. It was about a girl whose parent or sibling recently died and she writes letters to them. I think she also falls out of a tree and breaks her arm or leg at the beginning of the book. I think the main character’s name started with an “E” or an “L”.

Name this science fiction book

Four people (I think their names are Tom, Mary, Barbara, and Avery) each touch a crystal are are transported to an alien planet where they must survive and thrive. They are pitted against four beings from a different planet as an experiment to see which race is more capable of repopulating the planet

Can't remember the name of book

It is an old historical romance novel. Plot: A woman was kidnapped from her home in the states and taken to England to claim a inheritance and while there, she meets Peter the Great and she is invited to dinner at the house he was staying at and somehow I don't remember she is basically sold in marriage to a Russian aristocrat. And the title I don't remember but I think it has the name Czar in it.

YA/children's

I read a book several years ago about a princess, maybe a middle child, with a lot of sisters; I think there were 13 sisters total. But the princess is described as having brown hair and she ends up running off with a prince and building a house? I can't remember what it was called and I would appreciate any and all help! Thanks!

12 Dancing Princesses adaptation?

Maybe it could be an adaptation of the 12 dancing princesses, a fairy tale about 12 sisters who all go out dancing late at night. A prince finds out where they have been going and gets to marry one of his choosing. It could be something based of this! Hope this helps!

The Ordinary Princess

I think this might be M M Kaye’s The Ordinary Princess. It’s one of my all time favourites.

Children's book set in NYC Central Park?

I have been searching for this book for YEARS! I read it in the early 80's as a child and remember it was set in a park in NYC (I'm thinking Central Park). It showed what people were doing in the park - I specifically remember the character laying down on the grass, looking up at the sky; tall buildings; kid friendly illustrations. I would love to find this book again to share with my daughter who dreams of living in NYC!

Looking for a book

All I can remember is it starts with a kid who was raised by elderly aunts who were hard of hearing. They died and the kid had to start a new life. The aunts were mostly deaf so the kid would shout when speaking to people out of habit.

Mysterious book I can't remember author or title

The book I am searching for I started reading about 8 years ago and never finished. It was a thick black covered book and I don't remember a picture on the front, I remember thinking it was a series of books all in one. It started out with a man whose wife has died and he had one close friend who kept teying to get him to come out and do normal things with him to pull him out of his depression. Somehow, the main character ended up on a road in North Carolina and came upon a hidden entrance to a mythical word. There was a white dog that was a butler who spome and walked on two legs in it. There were all kinds of mythical creatures, sprites, trolls, nymphs, a dragon he had to fight I think, a witch he had to decieve, and much more. I believe he fell in lo e with the nymph and at one point took her back home with him but she was dying in the city and needed dirt to survive. The talkkng dog somehow ended up going through the portal or door or whatever and was captured by a bad man who somehow knew about the secret world, but hjs daughter helped the dog to escape and where I had left off the dog was either trying to find the main character or trying to get back to the other world. I wish I could remember more. I don't remember names of characters or the full plot. I think the main character had to save that world and become the king or something. I remember a fight between trolls and nymphs and the nymphs won. From what little I have described does anybody possobly know what this book is?! I really want to re-read it and actually finish it!

Just a guess

This reminds me of Magic Kingdom for Sale--Sold! by Terry Brooks, the first of a series.

Kids book from the 80’s

I read this book as a kid in the 80’s. It about a kid that gets transported to this mirror like fantasy world where everything is backwards and he has to save it from an evil guy. I remember some puns I think and there was a pier by the water and a dude that lived in a tree by a city. I think there was a girl that he had to save as well. I think there was a carnival involved too (maybe took place there) I remember he had to sneak around in the ditches and tunnels to avoid these weird policeman. I think it’s a teen fantasy book, not very long.

Not sure if this helps...

Could it possibly be Steven King’s The Talisman? A young boy and his dying mother go to a beach house. He travels to a parallel fantasy world where he journies across the land (America) to find a cure for the queen (his mother).

Need Help with finding this book!

This sounds similar to both

This sounds similar to both Kushiel's Dart series by Jaqueline Carey and the Merry Gentry series by Laurill K. Hamilton. Both series' have had many editions and volumes so its possible the cover you're remembering is one from of those. Another possibility is Maia by Richard Adams.

Looking for a story

Hello :) I read a book in sixth grade about a girl who belongs to family famous for their amazing pies. They get selected to make an enormous pie for the king (or some other authority figure). The girl messes up the recipe and the pie turns out all wrong. They decide to burn their whole house down to escape the king's (?) wrath. I cannot remember the name of the book or who the author is. I don't need it for my research or anything. It has just been driving me insane for the past few weeks. Any idea which book this might be?

House of Stairs by William Sleator? 1974, but republished over the years with multiple covers.

Lost children's book

Ok, so I can't remember title, author or cover and read this children's book probably early to mid 80's when in primary school in Aust. I remember a child becoming friends with a ghost (I think) in the library of a mansion or manor house. The ghost is looking for something like papers or a photograph, maybe a will, that was hurriedly hidden in a book many years before. Problem is that the books in the library keep getting rearranged so he has to start again. I think the house is going to be torn down and they need to find the papers really quickly. Towards the end the child helps the ghost remember what the book may have been about so they start looking in that topic to find the papers. Any help appreciated. Sorry I can't help with titles or character names.

I can't remember the name of my first book

I swear it was called something like babies first book. It was about a red haired toddler girl getting ready and going out to the market with her mother or grandmother. I have looked for this book and can't find anything about it. I would love to be able to show my young son the first book I had. I kept it and read it until it fell apart! My dad taped it back together until he couldn't anymore.

Big Red something

Best guess is the book I'm seeking was written before 1962, had an all red hard cover and was named something like 'The Big Red Eye' It was about a red menace threatening to crash into Earth and likely kill all, if not the planet also. It was discovered early, but too big to move. People first saw it by naked eye when it was a small red dot. The book dealt with how people accepted their fate and adapted to it as they watched it slowly get bigger and bigger. My copy of the book was missing the last few pages! Help?

The Big Eye?

This sounds like The Big Eye by Max Erlich

Help me find this book from when I was a kid.

This boy goes camping by himself and then finds a light and then wakes up in a place that is different. The grass is red or purple I think and he has to forge for food and eventually finds a village with a girl that teaches him her language. He tries to explain things like how he has running hot and cold water and she wont believe him. Then they get captured and thats all I remember.

I figured it out.

It’s The Transall Saga by Gary Paulsen.

Would love some help if anyone knows-

The book i'm looking for is about a young princess, I believe her name is Lryica or Lyra, and she lives in the sun kingdom, (There is the Sun Kingdom and Night Kingdom), but she gets hurt if touched by the sun, so she always stays in her castle. She has to get married to the Night prince and join the two kingdoms. This is as far as i've gotten, but I think the bio said she lost her memory and the prince has to find her or everyone is doomed or something. The book might've started with an S, i'm not sure. The cover is the young princess, she has pale skin and extremely long white eyelashes along with white hair. I probably should've found the book by now with how many details I remember, but I haven't. Just remebered two other things- the girl can't talk, she can only speak in music or something, and she can control the darkness.

I'm not sure, but I think it

I'm not sure, but I think it's 'Stain' by A.G Howard. it was particularly easy to find, just took a few searches! thanks for the recommendation btw.

suspense romance

I read this book a few months ago, I only started reading into a few chapters before I lost it. It started off with a girl and her friend at a coffee shop and looking at the people/guys that came in. None of the guys interested her until a Russian guy later named Sergio. She goes home and is taking a bath when he enters the bathroom and tells her that her dad, head of the mafia, wants to see her. She thought her dad was dead.

Water music?

I probably read this somewhere between 1985 and 1992. All I remember is that there was a girl who'd gone to stay with her grandmother or aunt or some sort of relative, and things were very sad in the family, and she played a flute, I think. There was talk of seashells, possibly the ocean, possibly some sort of correlation between all of it and the phrase water music. I've been wondering about this book for years and have never been able to find anything like it in any Google searches.

I came here because I, too,

I came here because I, too, was trying desperately to find confirmation that I really read this book. (My copy was acquired at community book sale and some sort of perfume or deodorant had been spilled on the cover. It never lost the smell.) The title was Water Music, and yes, the girl played the flute. An eccentric older woman approached her for that reason: "Are you a flautist?" she asked, and the girl (Meg?) was struck by her odd phrasing. The eccentric older woman also played the flute, but she needed a second person to play duets with her--flutes, wooden, provided. One of the flutes was blond wood with a higher register, the other darker and lower. They played these quasi-mystical duets together in order to, like... draw out bats? Special, magical bats? I think bats. The protagonist was struck by their being bats, by their being sort of not conventionally beautiful animals but learning to see them through the same lens this older woman (whose relationship to the bats itself is gone from my memory) did, as actually ethereally beautiful. I can't remember anything more about it no matter how I try, including how it ended.
