Booktalking "The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous & Broke" by Suze Orman

"It's time to start dealing with your financial life." Suze Orman, in her characteristically blunt, fun-loving manner, lays down the law.

I was first introduced to Suze Orman on The Oprah Winfrey Show and acquainted with her "smack downs." She loved to tell audience members exactly what they needed to do in order to fix their financial problems and improve their lives. I was not in love with her at first, but she has definitely grown on me, and now I highly value her advice.

Booktalking "You've Earned It, Don't Lose It: Mistakes You Can't Afford to Make When You Retire" by Suze Orman

Suze Orman describes this book perfectly when she says that "It is a lifestyle book that deals with the financial issues of retirement." However, this is definitely not solely a book for senior citizens. Having a successful, financially feasible retirement depends on good planning, which commences years before a person

Personal Finance Reading Recommendations

For me, the fall has always been a time of fresh starts and new beginnings. The promise of many new school years continues long past graduation as I advance in age and each autumn still feels like an opportunity.

This year I have been getting my finances in order and naturally I used library resources, the most fiscally responsible tools available. Where to start? My Financial Intelligence list of accessible personal finance resources has a few recent titles explaining "the new normal."

Business Books from "The Economist," July 7, 2012

The Economist. You have to love it, you probably also hate it. A weekly journal with too much to read in a week (especially for slow readers). And it keeps arriving in the mailbox, even when you're on vacation. In other words, it's taken until now to get around to putting up a post about these books reviewed several issues ago.

This was precisely the situation facing my daughter, Anne McDonough, who is an archivist-librarian with an entrepreneurial bent. Though based in Washington DC, she
