Hey! Got Homework?

[Fox Writing With A Quill Pen.], Digital ID 822655, New York Public LibraryDoes the word homework make you cringe in your seat?

Well, you can find complete, trustworthy information a lot faster using the Library's databases.

Here’s how to access NYPL’s databases:

  •   Go to www.nypl.org
  •   Go to "Research"
  •   Click on "Articles and Databases" (databases are listed in alphabetical order)

If you are not accessing the database on site at the Library, simply enter the number on the back of your library card.

Highlighted here are a few popular databases you may find useful for assignments, research papers, projects, etc: Biography in Context gives bibliographical information on anyone you can imagine. U.S. History in Context searches various topics in history, for example, the American Revolution, Women's Rights, 9-11, and much more. Grolier Online is a bilingual encyclopedia that also suggests magazines and websites. Learning Express Library provides exercises and practice tests for major exams, like the SAT. New York State Newspapers will allow you to search all the major New York newspapers without having to sit in front of the dreadful microfilm machine. Opposing Viewpoints provides articles on controversial issues, but the cool thing is you can download the articles to your MP3 player or translate the article for someone else to read in another language. And last but not least is Science Online. This database covers various fields of science and provides diagrams, essays, and even experiments. Attached to this blog post is a handout providing even more information about the Library's site.

Take a look at the databases provided by The New York Public Library — I guarantee it will make your homework easier to do!
