Book Discussion Group: Books & Banter: The Volcano Daughters
Location
Welcome to a new year of Books & Banter! For our March selection, we're discussing The Volcano Daughters by Gina Maria Balibrera. This event will be VIRTUAL. Registration for each session will open one week prior to the event at 9:00AM and events are limited to 20 participants.
Two sisters, Graciela and Consuelo, were raised apart from each other in the shadow of El Salvador's brutal dictator, El Gran Pendejo, in 1920's El Salvador. Graciela grows up on a volcano in a community of indigenous women indentured to coffee plantations owned by the country's wealthiest; Consuelo, the sister she's never known, was stolen away from their home before Graciela was born.
Books & Banter operates a bit differently than your average book club: we read a few chapters and meet Thursdays at 4PM to discuss what we've read so far. No Spoilers! With less pressure to finish the book, you can read it at a slower pace.
Thursday, March 6: Prologue - Chapter 12
Thursday, March 13: Chapters 13-26
