Celebrate Immigrant Heritage Week 2021 & NYPL's World Literature Festival

April 12 marks the beginning of Immigrant Heritage Week—a yearly celebration established in 2004 by the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA). It is held every year near April 17 to commemorate this day in 1907 when more immigrants entered through Ellis Island than any other date in the city's history. This city-wide celebration honors the experiences and contributions of immigrants, and highlights the legacy of NYC as a city of immigrants. In 2021, it is being celebrated from April 12-18.

The New York Public Library is thrilled to join in the celebration this year by inaugurating our first World Literature Festival, taking place April 12–30, celebrating books and writers from around the world and reflecting the languages spoken in our communities.

Celebrate Immigrant Heritage Week, and join the Library through the end of the month and beyond, and discover all we have to offer:

World Literature Festival

I am writing to you on behalf of the Delegation of the Basque Country in the United States.I have seen the program that you are offering in the NYPL's World Literature Festival and I wanted to congratulate you for opening a window to the different cultures of the world. I would kindly like to request further information and see if the Basque Government can collaborate with the NYPL in future events. It would be lovely to hear the Basque, the oldest language in Europe, performed in your festival.
