Stuff for the Teen Age
Looking for Leaders: Teen Council at 53rd Street Library
Are you a leader? Do you have great ideas that you’d like to see implemented at NYPL? Join the 53rd Street Teen Council!
By joining Teen Council, you'll learn more about how the library operates and influence decisions and programming at the 53rd Street Library. Council members help library staff determine program offerings, the teen library space, and the book collection, and also plan special events. Previous events planned by Teen Council include our Teen Nights, Career Day, Horror Film Festival, Harry Potter Book Night, and Valentine's Day Party. Teen Council members also help run ongoing programs like our Book Club, Manga Club, and Chess Meet-up.
Teen Council members hail from high schools across all five boroughs, as well as New Jersey! There is a minimum requirement of attending one meeting a month, held on the second Thursday of each month. Additional time may be needed to work on special projects and events.
Need volunteer service hours? No problem! We can work with you to help you collect the hours you may need for graduation or the National Honor Society. At the end of term, students in good standing are also eligible for a letter of recommendation.
Teen Council is open to teens in grades 6 through 12.
