Medicare Counseling at SIBL

Medicare Counseling is here at the Library: We invite you to visit a Medicare counselor at the Science, Industry and Business Library. Counseling is provided by New York HIICAP (Health Insurance Information, Counseling and Assistance Program).

Medicare is our national social insurance program, offered by the federal government. At its core, Medicare provides health insurance for Americans who are 65 years-old and older, or who may be younger than 65 with certain disabilities, and to those with End Stage Renal Disease or with ALS. There is much more to know about Medicare in order to obtain, use, and maintain the program for ourselves or our family members, such as procedures for enrolling, coverage costs, prescription drug plans, and more. Knowing what is offered, the rules to follow to get the most out of the program, and how to contact those you may need for help are just a few things paramount to using Medicare well and wisely. Medicare offers help in learning about and navigating the program and offers counseling in every state. In New York, counseling for New York City is offered at many sites, including SIBL through HIICAP.

As part of the Financial Counseling program, SIBL offers free, 45-minute, one-on-one, confidential Medicare counseling session with a HIICAP Medicare counselor. The sessions are available on Fridays from 2 PM—6 PM, in Room 55 on the Lower Level. Sign up, or call HIICAP at 212-602-4392 and leave a message if you need further assistance with your appointmentWe hope you take advantage of this counseling program in order to get the most out of your Medicare coverage.
