April is National Poetry Month! To celebrate here at The New York Public Library, thirty of our librarians and other staff members selected a poem. We recorded them each reading the poem and talking about the reason behind their selections.

We will release one poem per day for the entire month of April. We hope you enjoy them and that you find at least one special poem and reader that resonates with you.

It is a pleasure to listen the voices and comments of the Library workers. "If" reminds me of everything that is a major in my life, that I want to be, do, say, embody, inspire, teach my young ones: Be in the world, don't be part of the world… or be here now, enjoy, appreciate, love and share, but don't let anything or anybody be able to hurt you too much, to reach in there, where it can really hurt. Is it really possible? To be here and not let here be in us? An everyday meditation in so many different words, shapes, places, matters that keeps on twinkling, dancing, flowing so beautiful and almost perfect but impossible to be reached, held.

The man who read “The Two” by Philip Levine was adorable. He was so passionate about his choices I wanted to listen to him talk about and recommend his favorite poems all day. Thank you for sharing.

What a wonderful choice! As a poet, I am participating in the 30/30--30 poems in 30 days in honor of National Poetry Month. Tomorrow I am going to try to write my own "Otherwise" poem. Beautiful, articulate narration.
