Sharecropper on Sunday, Little Rock, Arkansas by Ben Shahn.Traditionally summer is a less busy time for registrar staff as the most ambitious shows open in the Fall and the Spring. However we have been busy this summer and have received many requests for exhibitions. You should make sure to check out the following shows in NYC that feature NYPL loans:

Biala: Vision and Memory, opens at the Goodwin-Ternbach Museum, Queens College, CUNY on September 10th with loans from the NYPL Berg Collection.

Chagall: Love, War and Exile, opens at the Jewish Museum on September 15th with a loan from the NYPL Print Collection.

The Interwoven Globe: the Worldwide Textile Trade 1500-1800, opens at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on September 16th with a loan from the NYPL General Research Division.

David d'Angers (1788-1856): Making the Modern Monument, opens at the Frick Collection on September 17th with a loan from the Print Collection.

And if you happen to go to Arkansas make sure to go to the Crystal Bridges Museum and visit the exhibition This Land: Picturing a Changing America in the 1930s and 1940s where you will see six photographs from the Farm Security Administration Collection of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.

For each of these loans the Registrar's Office follows a detailed loan procedure. Each loan request is carefully reviewed by the appropriate NYPL staff. The Registrar's Office negotiates loan agreements and coordinates packing and shipping procedures. Local loans may be softpacked if they are not extremely fragile but items travelling longer distances require a special crate and the Registrar's Office coordinates crate construction with a fine art crater.
