Free Job Training in Business and Entrepreneurship

The City University of New York (CUNY) was awarded $19.86 million through the United States Department of Labor’s Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training grant program to offer CUNY Career PATH, a three-year program aimed at supporting adult students in career advancement and successful college transition, and building CUNY’s capacity to serve adult workers.

Program 1

The first program is targeted to adults interested in starting their own business or working at an existing small business. The program begins with a free seminar to help adult learners assimilate back into the classroom environment and identify career and educational goals, followed by a free three-credit, college-level virtual enterprise course in which students can acquire the necessary skill-set to start and operate a business.

Program 2

The second program is targeted to adults who speak English as a second language and are interested in pursuing their educational and/or career goals. In addition to attending the free seminar participants can enroll in College of Staten Island’s full-time CLIP (CUNY Language Immersion Program), for $180 a semester. After completing CLIP, students can enroll in the free virtual enterprise course and/or enroll in college.

Program 3

The third program is for adults interested in going to college. Students who possess the skills needed to enroll directly into college can attend the free seminar and receive assistance with the college application and financial aid process, as well as educational and/or career counseling. Students who need remedial instruction before being enrolled at College of Staten Island can attend the free seminar and can participate in a full-time semester of reading, writing and math classes for $75 under the CUNY Start program. After completing CUNY Start, students can then enroll into college or continue with additional remediation, based on students’ progress.
