Horrors! Another Quiz...

[Today's guest blogger is brought to you courtesy of E. C. Comics Tales From the Crypt.]

Hello, kiddies!

Welcome to The New York Public Li-bury!

Heh-heh-heh!

Surprised to find me as your guest flogger? I suppose, if you looked hard enough, you'd find all sorts of things buried in the Library's hacks. "But can he write?" you ask. Well, I am good at de-composing!

For all you skullers and hackademics out there, I would like to present another quivering collection of queasy quotes. (You can also dig up some old quizzes from June 29, 2010, May 6, 2011, and June 24, 2011). If it doesn't spook you too much, your job will be to look over these quotes and tell me which movie they are from. You may be wrong, or you may be fright! If you fail, we may have to send you back to ghoul.

But if you can also tell me the names and authors of the horriginal novels or short goreies that some of these films were based on, you may win a few extra points... of the knife! Want to take a stab at it?

Many of these fearful flicks will be from before your time. If you can't scare up the answers on your own, you'll just have to go home and ask your mummies.

Heh-heh-heh!

  1. "Not to spill blood, that is the law. Are we not men?"
  2. "Yes! To be like the hu-man! To laugh! Feel! Want! Why are these things not in the plan?"
"You are an extension of the Ro-Man, and a Ro-Man you will remain. Now, I set you into motion. One: destroy the girl. Two: destroy the family. Fail, and I will destroy you!"
  3. "Even a man who is pure at heart, and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms and the autumn moon is bright."
  4. "'Mother, she's just a stranger!' As if men don't desire strangers! As if... ohh, I refuse to speak of disgusting things, because they disgust me! You understand, boy? Go on, go tell her she'll not be appeasing her ugly appetite with MY food... or my son! Or do I have tell her because you don't have the guts! Huh, boy? You have the guts, boy?"
  5. "Ladies and gentlemen, please do not panic! But SCREAM! Scream for your lives!"
  6. "I can see your dirty pillows. Everyone will."
"Breasts, Mama. They're called breasts, and every woman has them."
  7. "An evil old house, the kind some people call haunted, is like an undiscovered country waiting to be explored. Hill House had stood for 90 years and might stand for 90 more. Silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there... walked alone."
  8. "I met him, 15 years ago. I was told there was nothing left. No reason, no conscience, no understanding; even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, good or evil, right or wrong. I met this six-year-old child, with this blank, pale, emotionless face and, the blackest eyes... the devil's eyes. I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up because I realized what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply... evil."
  9. "This is no dream! This is really happening!"
  10. "One, two, Freddy's coming for you. / Three, four, better lock your door. / Five, six, grab your crucifix. / Seven, eight, gonna stay up late. / Nine, ten, never sleep again."
  11. "He went for a little walk! You should have seen his face! "
  12. "There are many strange legends in the Amazon. Even I, Lucas, have heard the legend of a man-fish."
  13. "Aren't you ashamed now? Aren't you? Spiders now, is it? Flies ain't good enough!"
"Flies? Flies? Poor puny things! Who wants to eat flies?"
    "You do, you loony!"
"Not when I can get nice fat spiders!"
  14. "You don't understand. Every night when the moon is full, I turn into a wolf."
"You and 20 million other guys."
  15. "But Doctor, that theory doesn't explain why Jules' and Carson's minds have turned against us."
"Preservation of the species. Once they were men. Now they are land crabs."
  16. "You told your brother there was someone else in the room."
    "There was."
    "That'll do, Anne."
  17. "Why are they doing this? Why are they doing this? They said when you got here the whole thing started. Who are you? What are you? Where did you come from! I think you're evil. EVIL! "
  18. "Can you possibly conceive it? The unendurable oppression of the lungs, the stifling fumes of the earth, the rigid embrace of the coffin, the blackness of absolute night and the silence, like an overwhelming sea."
  19. "Chief, if I were surrounded by eight or 10 of these things, would I stand a chance with them?"
"Well, there's no problem. If you have a gun, shoot 'em in the head. That's a sure way to kill 'em. If you don't, get yourself a club or a torch. Beat 'em or burn 'em. They go up pretty easy."
  20. "Look! It's moving. It's alive. It's alive... It's alive, it's moving, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, IT'S ALIVE!"
"Henry — In the name of God!"
"Oh, in the name of God! Now I know what it feels like to be God!"
  21. "Have you tried talking to a corpse? It's boring."
  22. "Help me! Help meeee!"
  23. "If you didn't kill him, then who did, sir?
"Who can say? Best thing for him, really. His therapy was going nowhere."
  24. "Mother? What's wrong with me?"
"It's just like the doctor said. It's nerves, and that's all. You just take your pills and you'll be fine, really. Okay?"
  25. "We accept you, one of us! Gooble Gobble!"

That was a lot of fun. The exorcist one reminds me of a funny story...my friends email address was based on the line Linda Blair says at the beginning of the film...hmmm let's just say 'Your Mother Blanks Blanks in Blank'...so his email address was yourmotherblanks@whatever email provider he had. Soooooooooo he went to apply for a job and they asked for his email address....oops...this was before everybody had their first name.last name @ gmail...all he had was this email address inspired by Linda Blair's demons...he didn't get the job.

This quiz really scared me!

This quiz really scared me! I got twenty out of twenty-five answers correct, and I wonder what that says about me and my movie tastes. I've also read eight out of the thirteen literary references. I'd rank The Haunting of Hill House and The Silence of the Lambs two of the scariest books I've ever read.
