You Are Here: The Finger Lakes

This past Fourth of July, I decided to explore the Finger Lakes region with my Summer Reading avatar, Confused Misty Stingray. The Finger Lakes are located southwest of Syracuse, New York, and are known for their fertile soil for vineyards. The area is called the Finger Lakes because five of the lakes run parallel with each other and almost resemble a hand.

The weather upstate was perfect — the grapes were growing, cows were mooing, and the snow cones were refreshing! It was also my first time camping, so in the tradition of this outdoor activity, we told stories around the campfire and made s'mores. Confused Misty Stingray was a little nervous about being so close to the fire.

So what did Confused Misty Stingray and I read during our weekend adventure? The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner! The Mulberry Street Library's book discussion group will be discussing this book at the end of the month on July 27 at 6 p.m. You can also see the online discussion in the Reader's Den archives. (The Reader's Den is The New York Public Library's online book discussion group.)

Where have you read this summer? Let us know!

Finger Lakes

The Finger Lakes are all southwest of Syracuse, not north of there. Confused Misty Stingray was really confused, or more than a little misty.

Thanks!

Updated! My avatars confusion is rubbing off on me. It is a beautiful area and it was very hard to come back to New York City!
