You Are Here: Me and My Summer Reading Avatar by Kerri WallaceJune 27, 2011

I would like to introduce you to my summer reading avatar, Confused Misty Stingray. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then you should swing by the Summer Reading website to create your own avatar and start keeping track of the books you read during the summer. You can keep track of movies, music, and video games as well. Usernames are randomly selected for you by the website, so do look forward to your future avatar's weird name!

Summer Reading has three great themes this year: "One World Many Stories" for children, "You are Here" for teens, and "Novel Destinations" for adults. That's right! Adults can sign up for Summer Reading too.

Since the theme of Summer Reading revolves around places and destinations, I decided to not only keep track of the amount of time I spent reading, but also where I read this summer. And who better to help me with this than my avatar, Confused Misty Stingray. I never leave home without a book or my e-reader, and oh the places I read!

Here's me and my avatar reading Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins at the Mulberry Street Library on my lunch break. My avatar loved the action and adventure in the second book of the Hunger Games Trilogy!

Fiction Read Aloud Chapter book recommendations

Hi! I teach a dual language ICT (inclusion) 3rd grade class at PS 75 on 96th st in Manhattan. For the first time, my principal has agreed to pay for a book for our grade to purchase in class sets. We must agree on a book (all 5 teachers (some who need to read it in Spanish on alternating days)-I liked Tia Lola Comes/Stays for a Visit by Julia Alvarez, the monolingual classes liked Tuck Everlasting (who wouldn't) but I can't seem to order it in Spanish. So I'm wondering if you can suggest a book that isn't out of print, that might appeal to our third graders and that is available in a Spanish version! I enjoyed your recommendations! Thanks, Ronelle
