The End of the World.... and other subject headings

Phaenomena quaedam apocalyptica ad aspectum novi orbis configurata [title page]., Digital ID ps_rbk_531, New York Public LibrarySubject heading of the month: Eschatology.

Many of the NYPL's worldly readers may know that the end of the world concept, or eschatology (Dewey call number 236), has its own heading in the Catalog for readers who want to browse books, ebooks, and DVDs on the subject.

The Oxford English Dictionary, available at the NYPL's Articles & Databases page has a gloriously detailed definition that is an education in itself, as is the Library Catalog's indexing of over 20 other related headings, including:

A brief description of the Fifth Monarchy, or Kingdome, that shortly is to come into te world. [title page]., Digital ID ps_rbk_468, New York Public Library

All of which goes to show... it's never too late to learn at NYPL!

Thanks for the info

Now that we are still here on Earth, thanks for the great list of books and databases!

Is there a way to browse all

Is there a way to browse all books in a certain hierarchy, for instance a certain Dewey number and all those prefixed by it?

browsing by call #

You can search by classmark in the "classic catalog", e.g. a search for 236 will give you a sorted list of that call # and the subdivisions that follow, but it won't provide what comes before: http://catalog.nypl.org/search/c A good guide to Dewey #'s and their subdivisions is here: http://bpeck.com/references/ddc/ddc.htm Happy browsing!
