Serving the South Central Bronx since 1905, the Tremont Branch is located on the corner of Washington Avenue and East 176th Street, one block south of East Tremont Avenue.
The historic, red brick building was built with funds given to New York City by Andrew Carnegie and was designed by Carrère and Hastings, the same firm that designed the Schwartzman Building in Midtown.
The main floor of Tremont branch houses the reference, adult, and young adult collections. The second floor is devoted to an expansive children's room and a large programming room.

Information about Environmental Remediation Projects in Your Community
Brownfields are properties where redevelopment is complicated by actual or suspected environmental contamination from past land usage. Because of New York City's long industrial history, brownfields are found in areas throughout the five boroughs. The New York City Office of Environmental Remediation offers programs that encourage environmental investigation of lightly-to-moderately contaminated sites, and that oversee clean up appropriate to a site's new end use.
