Reading keeps us connected. Join us for a neighborhood book club at West New Brighton!

The New York Public Library continues partnering with WNYC to present a book club experience! Each month, we will read a new title leading up to a live conversation, in-person or online, with the author and All of It host Alison Stewart.

This book club will take place IN PERSON at The West New Brighton Library.

The Demon of Unrest by Erik Larson

The September title is Erik Larson's The Demon of Unrest, a story about a divided nation during the pivotal five months between Abraham Lincoln’s election in November 1860 and the bombardment of Fort Sumter the following April—a dramatic period that put the United States on a path to self-destruction.

In the run-up to yet another momentous election, this story provides a window into our past that offers surprising insights into our present, helping us to understand how aggrievement and “passions” can spin into a kind of madness.

Throughout the month, All of It host Alison Stewart and the Library will accompany readers, providing touchpoints on-air and on social media at @allofitwnyc and @nypl. Borrow the book (and more than 300,000 others) for free through the Library’s e-reader app SimplyE, available for iOS and Android devices.

Don't forget to register to join Alison Stewart along with the author and readers everywhere for a live conversation, in-person or online, on Monday September 30, 2024, from 6 - 7 PM.
