100 Years of James Baldwin: Teen Workshop: The Art of Observation
Celebrate James Baldwin’s 100th birthday by sharpening your writer’s eye! In this one-hour workshop for teens, we’ll explore how Baldwin’s keen observations of people and places brought his stories to life. Learn to see the world with deeper curiosity, capture vivid details, and weave them into your own short story. Through guided exercises, we’ll channel Baldwin’s brilliance to help to create writing that reflects your vision and presents the world with depth and clarity. Together, we’ll honor a literary icon while discovering new ways to see and tell our own stories. All participants will leave the workshop with the start of a piece of writing that they can submit to NYPL’s James Baldwin Teen Creative Contest. Hosted by Community-Word Project.
- Audience: Teens/Young Adults (13-18 years)
