Anti-Prom 2016 visit
The annual Anti-Prom project is on progress for June 2016. 21 Juniors at the High School for Fashion Industries visited the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts for their orientation and workshop on using visual collections for costume research. This year's theme is Secret Garden, which the students are intepreting way beyond the Burnett novel to include flowers, birds, insects and trees as inspirations for design. For example, we looked at Poison Ivy, and other floral illustrations in the Digital Collections and discussed how they could inspire draping/structure or surface descoration. They learned where LPA has books on technical theatre and design, including a large circulating collection of fashion history titles. In the exhibition Alice Live!, the students studied the Victorian and Edwardian children's clothing in photographs, and the costume designs and bibles.
The project is organized by the Young Adult Programming staff and the teachers of HSFI.
