Blanche - Paintings and mixed media works by Yuko K.
Originally, I had a strong fascination in how primary colors emanate, and a life-long motivation for me has been to explore the momentary depth of feelings I encounter in my life, and through color.
Several years ago, while I was sitting in front of a white canvas, preparing the process to paint a piece with primary colors, I inadvertently became aware of how a blank canvas instructed the importance of the strength of another color, that is of “white” itself.
This experience made me recognize again how the basic color of canvas, white, utilizes primary colors, and it also brought me to attempt working with the color white itself.
It is something I hadn’t experienced in my work before, and the more I pursued white as a color, the more I realized the expressive yet sensitive appearance for creative works using white. This experience brought me to a statement of a brand new artistic world.
In recent years, I have experienced several significant losses of my friends and close relatives. Before this period of my life I had begun to be attracted to the beauty of the color white, and this spontaneous phenomena might have subconsciously emerged as a narrative symbol of a new beginning. Because, in the end of the matter, a new beginning is always expectedly waiting for us, essentially starting from the blank (white) mind or space preparing to accept the new, metaphorically -- Blanche."
