The history of U.S. book copyrights - registrations, renewals, copyright laws - is a complicated one. NYPL research teams have found the best view, to date, of the number of books registered for copyright during this critical period covering five decades, part of an attempt to "unlock the record of American creativity."

Our Improved Locations Finder—Now In Beta

With thousands of people every day trying to find or planning to visit one of over 90 NYPL branches, the Locations section is the most heavily visited part of the website after the homepage.
