Midwinter Break: Join NYPL’s Reading Challenge and Get Free Activity Packets!
Stay warm at The New York Public Library this midwinter break (February 19–27)! Head to your nearest open branch to pick up a free activity packet in English or español (Spanish) and curl up with a good book and join our winter reading challenge on Beanstack, our online reading portal.
There are so many things you can do at the Library this midwinter break:
- Get a library card! If you don’t have one already, all you need to do is visit one of our locations with proof of ID and address to complete the application for a card. Kids 13 and older can also apply online.
- Pick up a free activity packet in English or español (Spanish) from open branches! Supplies are limited, but you can also download our activity packets anytime to print at home.
- Become a Master of Minutes in our winter reading challenge on Beanstack, our online reading portal! Read for 20 minutes a day, track your progress, and earn badges.
- Find a fun program online or at a branch near you using our events calendar!
- Discover a wide array of free resources to help you with school work and other projects, including one-on-one tutoring through Brainfuse in English and español (Spanish), free access to making your own digital comics through Pixton, and much more.
- Find out how the Library is celebrating Black History Month throughout February!
- Build, code, and stargaze with NYPL’s amazing STEAM Discovery Kits! These are available to borrow from 30 different branches. Find out more.
- Get started with SimplyE, our free e-reader app! Explore 300,000 e-books and audiobooks now. Get SimplyE for iOS and Android devices.
- Try Shelf Help, the Library’s personalized book selection service! Tell us your reading interests and we’ll handpick five books just for you.
- And, of course, browse and borrow books, DVDs, music, and more!
