Celebrating Composers of Color in the Circulating Scores Collection at the Library for the Performing Arts
In our continuing efforts to update our holdings of circulating scores for 20th and 21st century classical composers the Library for the Performing Arts has sought to collect works by previously underrepresented groups. We continue to focus on collecting works by contemporary women composers and have begun to expand our holdings of works by composers of color.
The Library recently acquired a number of works in a range of instrumental and vocal combinations for circulation by composers such as Jessie Montgomery, Adolphus Hailstork, and Tania Leon, while also looking back to previously neglected composers such as Florence Price and Margaret Bonds. Additionally, we have works on order by contemporary composers Anthony Davis, Valerie Coleman, and others. Going forward, we will continue to collect newly published works by these composers, along with a broad range of works by contemporary classical composers from all backgrounds.
