Quiz: Is It a Racehorse...Or a Novel?
Even if you don't follow the world of horse racing, it probably comes on your radar once a year with media coverage of the Kentucky Derby—the hats, the mint juleps, and, perhaps most fun of all, the quirky horse names! Last weekend's Derby names didn't disappoint: Hot Rod Charlie, Known Agenda, Essential Quality, King Fury, and many more.
Racehorse names are often fanciful, weird, and—we couldn't help but notice—sometimes have a poetic or literary quality. Looking through the racehorse name database, we came across quite a few that share a name with a novel: Charming Billy, Exit West, Show of Hands, just to name a few. And, of course these three horses: Fiftyshadesofbay, Fiftyshadesofhay, and, my personal favorite, Fiftyshadesofnay.
So let's have some fun and see if you can guess if these names belong to racehorses or novels. Good luck!
