Teens: How To Volunteer Virtually With The Library

teenagers sitting in a library

Hey teens! Do you need service hours? Are you looking for a way to give back to your community? Do you want to help out the Library in your free time? Apply to be a Virtual Teen Volunteer!

Talk to a staff member at your local branch - it can be near where you live, where you go to school, or even a virtual conversation - and see if there are volunteer opportunities at that location. Only certain sites are able to host teen volunteers at the moment.

Once you have talked with a staff member, they will send you a link to the Teen Application Form.

You will need to create a username and account that you can remember. If you click the link, it will take you to a screen that looks like this:

Once you create an account, you will be asked to share personal information like your name and your contact information. The Library will only use this to contact you about Teen Volunteer information.

You will also need to let us know when you are available to volunteer.

You can select activities that you might be interested in. They include:

Online Events - For example, assisting librarians with online and virtual events, from storytimes to book discussions.

Online Projects - Work with our librarians on virtual projects such as book reviews, and more. Do you have an idea for a project? Let our librarians know!

Online Advisory Club - Become a member of one of our online advisory clubs, also known as Teen Action Groups or TAGS. Give your ideas and input about what you would like to see from your library. Suggest programs, books, movies and other resources that teens like YOU want and need. Share your opinions with our staff to make your library even better. We're listening.

General Volunteer Hours - Need community service hours but not sure what you would like to do? Talk to one of our librarians about current opportunities and how you might be able to help. Maybe you have a few ideas for us!

Once you submit your application, our Volunteer Department will make sure there is an availability at a branch. If you have a direct relationship with a librarian, email them and let them know you are interested!
