Feast Your Eyes on These Cooking Magazines (Accessible From Home)
Thanksgiving is a time to gather with family and friends to reflect on the year with gratitude and share a bountiful meal. Undoubtedly this year may be different in many ways as the pandemic impacts travel and the safety of get-togethers. It may also influence the size and scope of the Thanksgiving meals being planned and prepared. Whether or not you're downsizing your meal this year, it could be the perfect time to start new food traditions or put fresh twists on some of your old favorites.
We're here with a friendly reminder that your library card gets you full access to a slew of food and cooking magazines (among many other topics) that you can access right from home!
PressReader
PressReader is an easy-to-use database of over 2,000 magazines and newspapers from the U.S. and around the world in digital format. When you connect with PressReader via your library card, you can either search by the title of a magazine if you know which one you're looking for, or browse in the Food & Drinks section which currently has 212 titles (74 in English, many in French, German, Spanish, and Portugese as well as offerings in over a dozen other languages). Here's a sampling of what you'll find: Taste of Home, Food Network Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Cuisine at Home, delicious, Food Ideas, dish, and many more. Back issues of a few years' worth of each title is also available and pages can be printed out.
Flipster
Flipster offers easy digital access with your library card to over 100 magazines. There are fewer cooking titles than in PressReader, but they include some of the heavy hitters like Bon Appetit and Saveur (other titles include Clean Eating, Food Network Magazine, Eating Well, Gluten-Free Living and Cooking Light.) You can also peruse older issues going back a few years. If you find a recipe you think you'd like to try, you can print it out for easy reference.
