Accordion Mixology at the Library for the Performing Arts, April 1-6

The Music & Recorded Sound Division at the Library for the Performing Arts will host a series of performances and installations devoted to the accordion, April 1 through April 6.

Entitled Accordion Mixology, and curated by world-renowned accordionist, composer, and scholar Dr. William Schimmel, the week-long program consists of concerts and installations that reflect the current New York City accordion scene, and re-examines the instrument's role in performance traditions across the globe. Cover of the recording Accordion Revisited by William SchimmelThe series celebrates the acquisition of Dr. Schimmel's archives as part of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Archives of Recorded Sound, and one day of the program will feature videos from Schimmel’s archive). There will also be a small display of "accordiana" (books, sheet music, and LPs) from the collections of Music & Recorded Sound.

Dr. Schimmel has a wide-ranging discography that includes many solo releases, along with collaborations on projects such as the Tango Project and Tom Waits’ album Rain Dogs.

All events in the Accordion Mixology series are free of charge. Daytime events take place in the Vincent Astor Gallery and are designed so attendees may enter and exit the gallery at their leisure.
