Booktalking "Halfway Normal" by Barbara Dee
Norah begins seventh grade after two years of fighting cancer (Lue Kemia or Luke Mia, as she refers to it.) The girl is desperate to be normal again... to get back to her old life. She wants to do normal girly things, like get her ears pierced and hang out at the mall eating junk food. She wants a teenage body and long hair and everything that will not make her stick out like a sore thumb. Above all, she wants people to forget that she was sick.
Unfortunately, Norah's immune system is still compromised. An outing with friends is all that it takes to upset her stomach and stay home from school ill. Becoming accustomed to the social scene in middle school causes her to have more than one meltdown.
Norah's father, Nicole and her mother are supportive and only want the best for her, but the girl struggles with the new constellation of her family and what it means to be a cancer survivor.
Halfway Normal by Barbara Dee, 2017
I like the flowing locks on the cover since chemo-induced hair loss is such a big issue for cancer patients.
