Quiz: How Well Do You Know Your Historical Poems?
It's the birthday of Robert Hayden, who wrote some of the most profound and well-known poetry about the history of black America -- most notably in his Ballad of Remembrance. His birthday has us thinking about other poets who put pen to paper to commemorate historical events and people in verse. In his lifetime, Hayden authored nine collections of poetry, as well as a collection of essays and even some children's literature. You can find his works at the Library.
In honor of Hayden's birthday, we're taking a look at historical poems from well-known poets on key moments in history. Can you guess the historical figure or event referenced in these poems? It's harder than you think!
