Welcome to our biweekly update on events happening during the next two weeks at The New York Public Library. With 92 locations across New York City, a lot is happening at the Library. Ex Libris – The New York Public Library
9/13-9/26: Join us for a screening of the documentary Ex Libris, Frederick Wiseman's immersive and engrossing examination of The New York Public Library, at Film Forum between Wednesday, September 13 and Tuesday, September 26. Wiseman, who is best known for his highly comprehensive films that study the inner workings of large institutions, turns his eye to the Library in this sweeping documentary, his 43rd in 50 years.
Stephen A. Schwarzman Building
Wednesdays in August: Summer Shorts: Throughout the month of August, the Library is hosting free weekly screenings of 16mm films from its collections. Get out of the heat to see relics and forgotten gems specially selected by guest curators from the Criterion Collection, Maysles Documentary Center, Alamo Drafthouse, and the Library for the Performing Arts. 6:30 PM.
7/27: Ship Passenger Lists and Maritime Research: Learn how to get started using the genealogy research methods and resources related to ship passenger lists for vessels arriving at U.S. ports in the 19th and 20th centuries, in addition to some of the introductory resources for historical U.S. maritime research. 2 PM.

8/3: Lapidus Center Presents: Dutch New York Histories: Explore the little-known intersections of Dutch history in New York with African and Native American heritage in the region, and how the 17th-century Dutch presence shaped the modern city we know today. Featuring authors Jennifer Tosch, Dienke Hondius, Nancy Jouwe, and Dineke Stam. 6:30 PM.
Mid-Manhattan Library
7/26: Locking Up Our Own: Crime and Punishment in Black America: James Forman Jr., professor of law at Yale Law School, discusses how our society became so punitive and offers important lessons to anyone concerned about the future of race and the criminal justice system in America. 6:30 PM.
7/27: Whistleblower at the CIA: An Insider's Account of the Politics of Intelligence: Melvin A. Goodman, a former senior analyst and Division Chief of the CIA for over 20 years, presents an insider's account of the complex politics of the American intelligence community. 6:30 PM.
7/31: Sellout: How Washington Gave Away America's Technological Soul: Journalist Victoria Bruce talks with Jim Kennedy, the protagonist of her book about America's decreased investment in the future of clean energy and the natural resources we need for technological advancement. 6:30 PM.
Science, Industry and Business Library
7/27: Asset Allocation and Diversification: Does your portfolio have too many funds and seem complicated? Erika Safran, CFP® will walk you through the difference between asset allocation and diversification, and share tips to help you create a portfolio that will succeed in all market conditions. 3 PM.
7/26: Staying Motivated Throughout the Job Search Process: Looking for a job can be a long journey that requires a great deal of time and patience, especially in this economy. Staying positive and motivated throughout the process can make you a more effective applicant, which can in turn accelerate the outcomes you want. Attend this session with Kristina Leonardi to re-evaluate your job search strategy and reduce stress. 6 PM.
8/1: Beat Entrepreneurial Burnout and Depression, and Be More Productive: This two-part series will be packed with candor about the hustle and bustle of entrepreneurship. Join entrepreneur and best-selling author Ramon Ray for a discussion on the biggest challenges and successes of starting your own business. 6 PM.
