7/18: Saving Charlotte: Pia de Jong in Conversation with William P. Kelly: Best-selling novelist Pia de Jong discusses her memoir, Saving Charlotte, about her struggle to cope with the illness of her newborn daughter after she was diagnosed with leukemia. 6:30 PM.
The Schomburg Center
7/13: Artists and the Archive: Dianne Smith and Curator Souleo: Witness the debut of Dianne Smith's extraordinary new multimedia project, which juxtaposes images of Harlem culled from the Schomburg Center collections with photographs she took of the neighborhood over the past 20 years. This project, curated by Souleo, is presented in partnership with Columbia University's Uptown Triennial. 6 PM.
7/11: Seersucker Social: The Black Dandy and Resistance: Celebrate the release of Dandy Lion: The Black Dandy and Street Style by Shantrelle P. Lewis, a companion to her traveling curatorial initiative, The Dandy Lion Project, which examines global black dandyism through photography and film. Lewis will be joined in conversation with Jamilah Lemieux and Laylah Amatullah Barrayn. 6:30 PM.
Library for the Performing Arts
7/17, 7/24, and 7/31: Tap Mondays in July: Celebrate the many tap dance treasures archived at the Library for the Performing Arts with a series of free film screenings on Mondays in July. The Library is being honored with the American Tap Dance Foundation’s 2017 Tap Preservation Award this month for these collections. 6 PM.
Mid-Manhattan Library
7/13: Abandoned America: The Age of Consequences: Photographer and writer Matthew Christopher discusses another installment in his Abandoned America series, in which he chronicles spaces that have fallen into disuse across the country. 6:30 PM.
7/12: Fear City: New York's Fiscal Crisis and the Rise of Austerity Politics: On the eve of the 40th anniversary of the famous New York City blackout, scholar and author Kim Phillips-Fein provides an epic, riveting history of a city on the edge of disaster―and an anatomy of the austerity politics that continue to shape the world today. 6:30 PM.
7/17: A Field Guide to Long Island Sound: Patrick Lynch, an author, illustrator, photographer, and designer, introduces audiences to the rich natural history of Long Island Sound and its New York and Connecticut coastlines. 6:30 PM.
Science, Industry and Business Library
7/21: Business Financing Fair: Learn about how to secure the funds you need to get your business idea off the ground at this informative fair for entrepreneurs, start-up employees, and small business owners. Representatives from traditional and alternative funding sources will be on hand to answer your questions. The fair begins at 10:15 AM.
7/12: Self-Recruiter® Quickstart Job Search Series: Resume & Cover Letter Renovation: John Crant shows you how to increase the value of the items on your resume and on your cover letter, and how to make the edits necessary present yourself as a standout candidate during your job search. 6 PM.
7/22: Managing Your Investments in a Volatile Market: Investment markets are full of surprises, so how do you manage an investment portfolio to deal with whatever the market serves up? Sevasti Balafas CFA, MBA discusses the strategies and methods of successful investors to give you a leg up on managing your portfolio in a volatile market. 12 PM.

7/22, 7/29, and 8/5: Prisons, Punishment, and Criminal (In)Justice: A Three Session Course: This 3-session course will explore modern practices of punishment, which extend beyond the prison and to practices of discipline, surveillance, and "biopower" that become "normalized" in many other institutions: schools, hospitals, corporations, and public life as such. Primary texts will include the work of Michel Foucault, Michelle Alexander, and Angela Davis.
