Martin Duberman Visiting Scholar: Hugh Ryan
We are pleased to announce that Hugh Ryan has been selected as the New York Public Library's Martin Duberman Visiting Scholar for 2016-2017. Hugh Ryan is a curator and journalist based in Brooklyn, whose work primarily explores queer culture and history. He is the Founder of the Pop-Up Museum of Queer History, and sits on the Board of QED: A Journal in LGBTQ Worldmaking. During his fellowship at the Library, he will be researching the queer history of Brooklyn's working waterfront, in preparation for a 2017 show at the Brooklyn Historical Society.
The Martin Duberman Visiting Scholar program at The New York Public Library fosters excellence in LGBT studies by providing funds for scholars to do research in the Library’s preeminent LGBT historical collections. The fellowship is open to both academic faculty and independent scholars who have made a significant contribution to the field. For more information visit the fellowship page.
The Martin Duberman Visiting Scholars are funded by the generous support of Martin Duberman and Eli Zal.
