The Girl on the Train movie, starring Emily Blunt and based on the bestselling novel has begun filming and is slated to be released October 7, 2016. The body of a  boy with Down's Syndrome is found in a nearby pond. Similar to TGOTT in that the reader observes the boy's parents as the story unfolds but it is unclear as to what exactly transpired.

In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware

The Wild Inside: A Novel of Suspense by Christine Carbo
Set in Montana's Glacier National Park, the setting is about as far away from NYC as you could get. This is a well-built mystery novel with a sympathetic protagonist, unlike the characters in TGOTT.
