To coincide with the American Library Association's national events for Preservation Week, the Preservation Division at the New York Public library has scheduled some events for the public in the local New York City area.

Throughout the week of April 27 to May 3, staff from the NYPL Preservation Division will be giving public presentations on everything from how the NYPL cares for its own audio and moving image collections to how you can best care for your own books, papers, photographs, and personal media. This year, we'll be holding sessions at both the Stephen A. Schwarzman building and at the Bronx Library Center and the Jefferson Market Library.

The American Library Association is also hosting a series of webinars on preservation topics, so if you can't make it to the NYPL and you have access to a computer, you can still learn about preserving scrapbooks or low-cost ways to preserve family archives. ALA has also provided links to webcasts in previous years, on topics such as caring for family photographs and preserving digital media. The list of those past webcasts and events can be found on the ALA website.
