Booktalking "Hunwick's Egg" by Mem Fox
Once upon a time, there lived a bandicoot named Hunwick. One day after a big storm, Hunwick found a treasure, a perfectly shaped humongous egg. He took care of the egg and covered it with twigs when he left it. He talked to the egg; the egg did not talk back. All of the other animals in the land were concerned about and asked about his egg.
For the longest time, the egg did not hatch. Hunwick waved to the egg, he snuggled up against the egg, but yet it would not hatch. His friends said it would never hatch, but Hunwick wasn't so sure.
