Stuff for the Teen Age
Blockbuster Books: Teens Make Trailers
I'm sure you've heard of blockbuster movies, but have you read a blockbuster book? According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary online, a blockbuster is one that is notably expensive, effective, successful, large or extravagant. For example, the Harry Potter series of books and movies were blockbusters. Other blockbusters from the past include The Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer and The Lightning Thief and other Percy Jackson and the Olympians books by Rick Riordan.
Borrowing from the blockbuster phenomenon, The New York Public Library will be hosting several teen programs in the branch libraries called Blockbuster Books and, we just happen to be sponsoring one of these programs at the Morris Park Library starting this coming Tuesday, October 30th at 4:00 pm. If you are intersted in screenwriting and learning the mechanics of film editing, stop by and join the fun.
The program is open to teens 12-18. Sessions will be October 30, November 6, 13, 20 and 27, 2012. Come in and join teaching artist, Anya Hoyer from the Center for Arts Education as she helps you create a book trailer using music and more. Learn how a movie script is created, write your own script with the other participants, shoot it, and edit it into a finished product.
Here are several works of fiction where the main characters love to act, direct and write!
- Shooting Stars by Allison Rushby
- My Life, The Theater, and Other Tragedies by Allen Zadoff
- Viola in Reel Life by Adriana Trigiani
