Financial Empowerment Day at NYPL

The deadline for filing your income taxes may be rapidly approaching but that is no reason to put your personal finances on the back burner until next April.  If that little voice at the back of your mind is telling your that you need to finally get serious about planning for your financial future, you're in luck!

On April 29th, NYPL's Science, Industry and Business Library (SIBL) on Madison Avenue at 34th Street is holding a Financial Empowerment Day starting at 11 AM and lasting until 6 PM.  Representatives from the AARP, FDIC, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Financial Planners Association of New York (FPA-NY), New York Women's Agenda, Office of Financial Empowerment, Office of the New York State Comptroller, Securities and Exchange Commission, Social Security Administration and Workshop in Business Opportunities will be on hand to answer any questions you may have in regard to their services.

In addition, certified financial planners sponsored by the FPA-NY will also offer free private counseling sessions throughout the day on a first-come basis and classes are scheduled on topics such as planning for your retirement, long-term care, investing and budgeting, mutual funds and ETFs and understanding your Social Security benefits. There will also be live demonstrations of the library's valuable and powerful electronic databases focusing on financial topics such as Bloomberg, Morningstar and Value Line.  Remember, the books and resources of Financial Literacy Central at SIBL are available for consultation and checking out year round.  In anticipation of Financial Empowerment Day, you may wish to check out these current titles on personal finance available from your branch library.  These are just a small sample of all the titles available in the branch libraries.  To find other titles on personal finance in the catalog, search the subject heading "finance, personal."
