Stuff for the Teen Age
Summer. Seriously.
If you're ready for the warmer, laid-back days of summer, you're not alone. We've had a brutal winter in New York, and everyone's sick of avoiding the miserable winds, freezing slush piles, and long, gray evenings of this icy time of year.
So, a thought exercise. Pretend it's summer already. Life is awesome, and you need something fun, fast and funny to read. Pick up Elliot Allagash, by Simon Rich. You will love it because:
- It has a hero nicknamed 'Chunk-Style,' the most unpopular boy at Glendale High.
- It has an evil genius who gets thrown out of schools more often than regular people buy shampoo.
- It has a wacky dad who never thinks his son is wrong, and an unhinged dad who moved to New York City solely to be close to his favorite glovemaker.
- It involves fraud, video games, a secret basketball league, social climbing, and the invention of paper.
Also, Battery Park City Library's Teen Advisory Group is going to read it together this summer as part of our first-ever book club. So read the book, think warm thoughts, and get ready to see us this summer.
