Hand-Made
Emerging Designers' Knitting Circle: Handmade Crafternoon, Dec 18
Want to meet some of today's emerging knitwear designers and learn about what they do? Or, would you rather look back in time and browse old knit and crochet magazines and books from the Library's Collections to find vintage patterns? Either way, you'll be in luck on December 18th, as Maura Madden (author of Crafternoon) and I host a free day of both old and new needle arts fun.
We'll meet Melissa Wehrle (of NeoKnits) and Kirsten Kapur (of Through the Loops), who will talk with us about their current design work. And we'll also have a spread of vintage knit and crochet books and magazines from the Library's collection to browse. You'll find patterns like these:
Children's Knitwear from Bernat's Handicrafter (Number 68, from 1959):
Or, a Dog Days of Summer sweater from The Needlewoman (Number 168, in 1936):
So bring along your own work-in-progress and share a few hours of relaxed crafts with fellow fiber arts lovers. We'll have a few sets of needles and crochet hooks and yarn on hand to borrow for the afternoon if you'd like to try your hand at it. And Knitty City will be on hand to solve last-minute gift questions for the wool gatherers on your shopping lists. Here are the details on this FREE event:
- WHEN: Saturday, December 18, 2:00pm to 4:00pm
- WHERE: Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, Fifth Ave. & 42nd St., Margaret Liebman Berger Forum (Room 227, on the north end of the 2nd floor)
