PressDisplay: An International, Virtual Newsstand
Gone are the days of newsstands on every corner with titles reflecting the vibrant international community of readers in New York City. Gone are the newsstands, but not the readers. New York City is home to 2.9 million foreign-born residents, many of whom still want to read the newspapers of their home country. To that end, the New York Public Library is pleased to offer PressDisplay at all NYPL locations and to all NYPL card-holders.
PressDisplay provides the full-text and full-color page images for over 1,000 newspapers, both domestic and international.
Patrons can browse the titles of PressDisplay by country (from Albania to the U.S), language (Afrikaans to Yiddish), or alphabetically (Aamulehti to Ziarul Financiar). Or you can search across all titles and read about, for example, "WikiLeaks" in the Washington Post, The Irish Times, Radikal (Turkey), Handelsblatt (Germany), Edmonton Sun (Canada), De Morgan (Belgium), and more.
PressDisplay also allows readers to email articles, listen to the article (depending on the language option), and subscribe to an RSS feed of the paper's new issues.
So whether it's the front page of La Gazzetta della Sport or Page Six of the New York Post, PressDisplay helps NYPL patrons travel around the globe to read the news of the world, all from the comfort of their New York City living room.
