Do you want to play a game called Exquisite Corpse?  Don’t worry, there’s nothing ghoulish about it; it’s a collaborative art game that was invented by the surrealists.  And it was this game that inspired illustrator and pattern designer Julia Rothman and her colleagues Jenny Volvovski and Matt Lamothe to collaborate with one hundred artists on The Exquisite Book. On Saturday, September 18th, Julia will tell us about the ambitious and beautiful collaborative art project that resulted in this book, and we’ll all have the chance to create some exquisite corpse-inspired books and art of our own.

There will be lots of options--a classic exquisite corpse, a hand-sewn double-bound book, a giant scroll, and even a crowdsourced short story.  It’ll be lots of fun, and we’ll have the makings for everything on hand--paper, binding supplies, colored pencils and crayons, and plenty of random images from library books and glue sticks for those who want to collage.  All you have to do is show up!  And as with every Handmade Crafternoon, it's FREE and there will be a chance to win copies of The Exquisite Book in our raffle--or purchase a copy for yourself.  

But wait, it gets even better! Julia’s bringing along some of the fabulous artists who contributed to The Exquisite Book--Jen Corace, Chris Kyung, Arthur Jones, Laura Ljungkvist, and Maxwell Holyoke-Hirsch--and they’ll make stuff alongside us.  My lovely co-host Maura Madden and I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday!
