"Portrait of Harlem" at George Bruce through September 30 and at Hamilton Grange from November 5-30
Harlem is an iconic place, a fabled community, a vibrant hub of African-American culture and pride known the world over. Its essence has been captured in music—"Take the A Train" by Duke Ellington, in literature—The Street by Ann Petry and photography—Art Kane's 1958—"Great Day in Harlem" and in many photos by famed photographer James Van Der Zee.
Well, modern day photographer Lenore Browne has put her own spin on this dynamic, original and ever evolving community in her exhibition series entitled "Portrait of Harlem."
Come and revel in her vision of Harlem as captured through her photographic lens. From her website (portraitofharlem.coimage.net), you find the following description:
"Browne uses primarily black and white silver gelatin film to create and capture beautiful, romantic and majestic images in urban and natural environments that often remain unnoticed in today's fast-paced lifestyle."
Her photographs will be on display through September 30th. In addition, please join her for an Opening Reception & Program to highlight this exhibition on Saturday September 18, 2010 from 2:00-4:00PM.
At Countee Cullen join her for the following:
Panel Discussion on Tuesday October 5, 2010 from 5:00-7:00PM
Opening Reception on Thursday October 7,2010 from 5:30-7:30PM
