Art in the Stacks: Part One
Those who use the resources of the Art & Architecture Collection come in splendid variety: old and young, sophisticated and naive, happily curious and relentlessly searching. We love it, for where else could you be asked "just what is that building in back of that Madonna" followed by a search for more of Grandmama's old Limoge china (oh, those porcelain marks - so confusing!).
Lately, though, in a fit of proactivity, we organized a series of four lecture/presentations geared to the higher side of cogitation: "Art in the Stacks: Current Research in the Fine Arts by Scholars from The Wertheim Study." The first is tomorrow night, February 23 at 7:30 in Room 300 of the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue.
Dr. Sally Webster, professor emerita of American Art at Lehman College and the Graduate Center, CUNY, will introduce us all to some 30 fabulous, beautiful murals by hotsy-totsy American Artists taken from an 1890s Fifth Avenue mansion, long since tucked away but soon to be newly installed at Yale.
