Linda Gordon, a former Cullman Center Fellow and author of the acclaimed new biography Dorothea Lange: A Life Beyond Limits, talks about the celebrated documentary photographer's unparalleled work and intriguing life with writer Ian Frazier, a current Cullman Center Fellow and regular contributor to The New Yorker.

 

 

Linda Gordon is the Florence Kelley Professor of History at New York University. Her books include The Great Arizona Orphan Abduction, for which she won the Bancroft Prize, and Impounded: Dorothea Lange and the Censored Images of Japanese American Internment.  The New York Times praised her new book, A Life Beyond Limits, calling it an "absorbing, exhaustively researched and highly political biography of a transformative figure in the rise of modern photojournalism."

Ian Frazier is the author of numerous works of nonfiction and humor, including Dating Your Mom, Coyote v. Acme, Lamentations of the Father, Great Plains, Family, and On the Rez.  He is a two-time recipient of the Thurber Prize for American Humor.  His next book, Travels in Siberia, will be published in October, 2010.
