The author of Czech Cubism and the Book (Prague, 2004), Jindrich Toman specializes in modernist book design in Czechoslovakia in the 1920s and 1930s. In this lecture he provides a basic introduction to Czech avant-garde design of the interwar period. In conjunction with the exhibition Graphic Modernism from the Baltic to the Balkans, 1910–1935, this series of lectures introduces and explains the complex historical and political events and artistic movements of the first four decades of the 20th century in eastern Europe.
