For Teachers
September is Library Card Sign-Up Month
The month of September signals the end of summer, back to school, sweater weather, and, of course, Library Card Sign-Up Month. Library resources are plentiful and free! Having a library card provides access to resources to engage and support students, teachers, children, teens, and adults. Our resources support NYPL’s mission to inspire lifelong learning, advance knowledge, and strengthen our communities.
Below are just a few great reasons to apply for a library card today. For information on how to get a library card, visit our info page: Apply for a Library Card
Kids
Check Out Brainpop: Children have free access to Brainpop’s online educational videos and activities for English, Math, Science, and more for children in grades K-8.
Teens
Check Out Flipster: Explore a digital library with over 100 popular magazines for all ages. Some popular categories include Entertainment, News, and Sports. Read them online or download the app for instant access and no wait times.
Parents
Check out Brainfuse: Students can get homework help online from live tutors in real time. Log in with a library card between the hours of 2 PM–11 PM and ask questions and get help in both English and Spanish. Brainfuse is available for grades K–12 with some college assistance and also has an adult learning center.
Adults
Check Out Press Reader: Read current newspapers from around the world—over 2,000 titles available. Read them online or through the free app.
Educators
Check out NYPL's Educator's Page: This page is full of learning resources to support your daily work. You can also register for an educator card if you work in NYC. Educator cards include more privileges than a personal library card. You can borrow more materials, get a longer loan period, and there are no late fines for books when borrowing materials to use in your classroom. To find out more, visit our info page: NYPL Educator Cards.
